I can see Belinelli as a long term guard fit

Has way more versatility than Morrow and Reddick , although , JJ is a defensive scrapper.

Anyway if we had another ball creating guard like Tyreke Evans then we have 3 guards ( in time when you count Teague ) who can break down a defense and penetrate. Having a shooter like Bellinelli who can also put it on the floor is a big plus. I would expect a vet speciialist point would round out the guard corp.

Butler will play at the 3 , and very occasionally at a pinch , the 2....but Jimmy is a 3.

That was my thought as well. Rip to Detroit. But I don't think that they could absorb him-- no capspace and no TPE big enough. And they're not going to give up Austin Daye for Rip. More likely they bring back TMac or somesuch.

Casspi+Gibson for Rip+Butler. We cut Gibson saving 2.3 million immediately, whereupon he is free to sign with the Lakers, which he will surely do. Casspi replaces Butler for the year. Cavs get a nice vet who can play SG, which fills a big hole on the team, they get a nice young defensive roleplayer.

Bulls giving up too much in that deal. I could see them doing a deal like this only if it was getting under the luxury tax at all costs, but dealing Rip to a division rival along with Jimmy Butler, who the Bulls are very high on for Booby Gibson & Casspi is a downgrade in talent. Even if the Bulls signed TMac after dealing a trade like this, I wouldn't like it. If the Bulls deal Rip, the feeling is that it will be a salary dumb between now & the Trade Deadline, or they will take very little salary back in return.
