To me honestly, I'd be fine with any outcome, whether we become the third team involved and receive Waiters, Thompson, and Martin, acquire Love directly, or stand pat. I am excited for this upcoming season, and I can truly say that this is the best team Gar & Pax have ever assembled.

On a side note, I give the Bulls team with Waiters, Thompson, and Martin the slightest edge.

F Butler/McDermott
F Gasol/Mirotic/Bairstow
C Noah/Thompson
G Martin/Waiters
G Rose/Hinrich/Brooks

That's a nice roster

I've alluded to this before, but it's just something that with a little thought people should be able to understand. Yes, basketball is a business and all of that, but it involves human beings - this isn't just some basketball computer game. There is loyalty and commitments in all forms of businesses, not only sports but also integrity. It's a good thing, people, it's not just some mushy stuff that people should just easily disregard because as fans we want our team to win. This is real life, involving real people with families.

That said though, I can't see how the team and Mirotic and his people can't sit down and resolve the situation where it would involve him being traded. There is heartless trades all the time, but then you also make the tricky situations work by being sensitive and respectable to the situation and making it work.
Why so serious?

Mirotic bought out his contract with Real Madrid of the Spanish League only after the Bulls committed to keeping him in Chicago, according to a source familiar with negotiations. It's one thing to trade a savvy NBA veteran like Gibson after reassuring him to "buy, not lease,'' as general manager Gar Forman has advised, but another to mislead a 23-year-old rookie who uprooted his wife and young son to cross an ocean and become a Bull.

Smart business move or not, dealing Mirotic after earning his trust over three years would be contrary to everything Reinsdorf wants his organizations to represent and a departure from how the Bulls typically operate. It would be bold but borderline betrayal. It might lead to more victories but overall result in the loss of respect, and the Bulls traditionally care about both.

Perhaps that explains why, as of Thursday, Mirotic and his representatives remained under the impression the 6-foot-10 forward was not part of any "significant offer'' the Bulls made for Love.

I sense nothing's really going on for us in this thing.

Perfectly stated what I've been thinking last two days. No way in hell we offered all that for Love, just doesn't jive with what I've seen unfold last couple weeks.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

Looks like there's no point in checking this thread every now and then like in the Melo one. Gotta wait it out.

What's to stop teams agreeing to a deal over the next few days, having it leak to the press, but just not publicly confirm it until the 30 days have passed?

I do agree though, I don't expect to hear much for awhile now. I think these teams were trying to get something done, but couldn't reach an agreement, and now there will be a pause for a time.

Something tells me that Flip Saunders is gonna wind up blowing this for MINN, big-time.

He thinks he is control and will wait too long, and wind up with some crap for K. Love and be
forever remembered as the guy who traded Kevin Love for ____________.
(Fill in the blank with some names of several marginal guys plus picks, that is sure to break hearts in Minnesota).

P.S. I'll also go on record right now, saying that Nikola Mirotic will definitely not be traded. Not into arguing about it endlessly or flame wars 24/7 either. When it doesn't happen, I'll simply re-post this is in the 147th, or however many threads it's up to by then, Kevin Love thread.

No way. Not happening. Don't care about the rumors, the press, media, tweets, forum posts, or, that guy's cousin, whose brother's friend's Aunt, knows someone who works in an NBA office, who said.... Blah, blah, blah... Ain't happening. Guaranteed.

I wrote a similar sentiment in one of the earliest Melo threads saying he would not sign with Bulls. A gazillion threads later, yeah, you get it... I'm not saying that the Bulls are out of pursuing Love, just that Mirotic will not be a part of any deal.

Hopefully Ralph is right which most of the time he is. :)

It will hurt to lose GIbson since he's actually one of my favorite players but if we need to get rid of him and Dunleavy to get Waiters, Thompson and Martin or Dieng, Waiters and Martin I would definitely do it.

Yup. We'll have veterans such as Martin, Gasol, Brooks, and Hinrich contribute in the short term. While we'll have Rose, Noah, Mirotic, McDermott, Butler, Waiters, and Thompson for the long term.

Ralph didn't mention Snell, I wonder what happens to him.

Nikola is the future of the franchise. He's not getting traded. Atleast I hope not.

G Rose . Brooks . Hinrich
G Martin . Waiters . Snell
F Butler . McDermott . Snell
F Gasol . Mirotic . Thompson . Bairstow
C Noah . Gasol . Thompson . Bairstow

Please basketball gods... :meditate:

Clear #1-#3 options (Rose, Gasol, Martin)

6th men candidates (Mirotic, McDermott, Waiters)

Offensive spark plugs (McDermott, Waiters, Brooks)

All defense (Rose, Hinrich, Butler, Noah, Gasol)

Developmental (Snell, Thompson, Bairstow)

Gar Forman and John Paxson gotta make this deal happen. We're set with good problems to have going forward. This move also looks to me like they're preparing for Butler's POSSIBLE departure (highly unlikely though).

Rumor Press @NBARumorPress · Jul 23
K.C. Johnson's latest report of an overstated Love offer is along the lines of the latest we've also heard from two sources.

Rumor Press @NBARumorPress · Jul 23
Multiple pieces have been put on the table for Love, but not necessarily in the same combination as it has been led to believe.

Shared this in our replies to a few who asked: Rumored Bulls offer for Love (Taj, Mirotic, DM) is an exaggeration.

Was told late last night from a source not to buy yesterday's initial reactions to Bulls renewed interest in Love as leverage-driven.

While I would do both trades, the one with dieng would be awesome. I wanted him for the bulls last year. the bench would be really nice

Coming out of this deal with the option of having Thompson or Dieng. My goodness. Losing 1 or both of Taj/Butler wouldn't be so bad after compiling a roster of Rose/Gasol/Martin/Mirotic/Noah/McDermott/Waiters. That's a strong 7 man rotation. Dieng would easily make it 8.

Yeah, it would especially sweet to get Dieng, the guy picked one pick after Snell in the draft, which was a point of a lot of debate at the time as well. If it happens and we'd have both of them in the end, that would be kind of awesome...

None of it's happening. We're not getting Kevin Love and we're not trading Taj/MDJ for a pussy like Kevin Martin, a moronic scrub like Waiters or Tristan Thompson. None of them make this team better if you lose the front court D and O, energy of Taj. Kevin Martin is so grossly overrated by this board, it's pathetic, really. Rather just start Jimmy and Doug or MDJ and keep our awesome frontcourt. We still only have three players with any NBA experience at the 4/5. ...and one is 34 and the otehr has missed a ton of games the last few years and is beat to shiiit every postseason. Let's not F this up.

This is the last thing we need on our team... a pussy like this.

Interesting article on ESPN insider, obviously can't post here, states that a Bulls package of Taj, Butler, MDJ, and a future pick would guarantee the Wolves a higher future WARP than any of the other packages out there right now for Love. According to the article Wiggins college stats do not project well to the pros. So if a team is taking him they will be betting on his potential.

The article states that the Gibson, Mirotic, and McDermott rumor has been unconfirmed. Which is why they chose this package. I'll tell you right now I would trade Taj, Butler, MDJ and 3 first for Love. We would still have an incredible amount of depth at that point and be built for future success.
