I like our booth, personally. Amin is so much looser doing basketball games compared to baseball....I like the basketball version much better. Listening to he and Stacey cut up during the game is more like watching the game with a couple of your boys rather than a traditional broadcast....I appreciate that. I like to think I know the game well enough that I don't need everything explained in great detail, just need some engaging background voices.

Yeah I agree with your last point about not needing Everything explained and preferring a feeling of watching the games with friends. For me, I'd ultimately prefer no hosts, just court mics for the game action and voices of the refs, coaches and players. If football were like that instead of the disgustingly overproduced trash that it is with 8 replays and mouth breathing analysis of every 2 yard run, I'd be an avid nfl viewer.

I've heard mostly all other teams' broadcasts.

The grass isn't always greener.

We are VERY lucky to have Amin and Stacey.

I watch Knicks games just to hear Breen and Clyde. That's how announcing is done.

I have no clue how Stacey King has kept his job for so long. I am not sure what broadcast others listen to. Maybe, there is an alternate King that I have never heard of because the local youth league coaches could probably provide more insight into the game than him. I do not find him knowledgeable at all, or at least, he is incapable of explaining the nuances of the game to a mass audience.

I really don’t need a broadcaster to have a “schtick” or be an over-the-top homer like King is, and Funk used to be. Just shut up and call the game. King doesn’t have a good singing voice. It is awkward when he wants others to sing along only for him to put their voice down and claim how great is bringing up the Jackson 5. Few of his catchphrases are even unique or humorous. Chi-Slamma-Jamma? WTF? The Bane impression is beyond cringe; sometimes, he goes on and on and on.

I like Amin, but I agree with others that Stacey is only SOMEWHAT tolerable when he is next to a “straight” broadcaster and Amin plays along with the “humor” too much. I don’t even recognize the Bulls version of Adam Amin compared to the football version. I forget the name of the alternate to Amin, but Stacey does seem a bit calmer calling games with him; otherwise, he is like a hyper child desperate to hog the air time.

I’ll take a Bulls broadcast booth like the former and current Cubs duo of Len Kasper/Boog & JD, or Pat Foley and Eddie O of the Blackhawks ANY DAY over any duo that involves Stacey King.

Lol. Manage to tune him out over the years.

There was one time he made laugh out loud.
Remember when Noc dunked over Pecherov? Stacey shouted Stewie! Noc dunked over Stewie Griffin! Lol.
Think his poster machine had Stewies face on Pecherov body. I was rolling.

Can we just clone Marv Albert and Mike Fratello to broadcast EVERY NBA game?

It's 2021 for God's sake....get the scientists on it immediately.

Amin though I agree it’s his second year here and not crazy about him. His play by play is ok but doesn’t seem like he knows much about basketball.

Still don’t know why they didn’t give the job to Chuck Swirsky, he’s great on radio but he’d be even better on tv knows basketball and you can tell he actually likes the bulls.

Stacey is funny, but like any funny person they get less funny each time they repeat the same joke. But again, one comedian in the booth is fine, two is just overkill. As far as Chuck Swirsky, I can count on one hand the number of times I've listened to a game on the radio, but I personally can't stand his voice, though aside from that it seems like he's good at what he does and maybe I would get used to it after listening to him for awhile.

I noticed that too and even commented in the GT that after Ayo hit that big 3 it seemed like he was going to fall back into the Ayo Silver thing but then thought better of it and went with a more generic call.

The amount of pop humor definitely feels a little unprofessional at times.

Appreciated, but unprofessional.

Pop humor is fine in small doses, but they overdo it much of the time.

Agreed. Stacey is good, but paired with Amin his strengths become annoying and his weaknesses become more apparent. Amin is good too, I've seen a few Sox games where he was calling the game and he did a good job, but paired with Stacey he becomes a yes-man. They're both good, but together they bring out the worst in each other it seems. I will say that it seems like their chemistry/friendly banter is genuine and forced. Kind of seems like two college buddies just watching the game together and cracking jokes, which is funny because Stacey is what, at least 20 years older than Amin?

Oh man, Stacey and Jo in the booth together would either be the greatest or worst announcing duo of all time

I was at that game and literally couldn't believe my eyes. It was like Jordan's spirit possessed Noch's body on that play, as I don't remember him doing anything even close to as explosive before or after that dunk.

My idea would be to replace Stacey with Jo.

solid breakdown

i feel like maybe 60% of stacey calls are either ironically enjoyable or earnestly good, which is a pretty good rate for a local broadcaster. the lows are low for sure, but he can make a big moment more hype and make a mundane moment funny, which i prefer to a bland person on commentary.

i can tune out the bad jokey bits, but i think it's underrated how bad his actual analysis is. if you watch one game you are aware of every single insight stacey king has about the game of basketball. the team should hustle more and be more active. if the team is struggling, it's probably because they're not getting enough 50/50 balls. all post shots are good, and so are most midrange shots, even if they don't go in. on defense, you've always got to Help The Helper. a big man should come up further out of the post if a ballhandler makes a mid-range shot, regardless of what the defensive scheme actually calls for.

alas, i am probably not going to ever get my dream of an announcer who goes "i don't know what to tell you man, sometimes the other team makes good plays"

I don't mind two superfans calling games. Its fun and different.

Broadcasts are changing anyways. The Mannings are a huge hit on ESPN.

That's how I view the matter. I don't care one way or another about a sports analyst's schtick, as long as he is a reasonably professional announcer (which Stacey certainly is, actually his delivery is very good). What counts is the analyst's analyis. And Stacey's ... isn't all that.

It started when we played the Grizzlies who have Desmond Bane. Was mildly funny (and I'm talking like I sort of cracked a smile), but he loves it so much that he's carried it into pretty much every other game since.

You can forward towards the middle of the video for the actual Bane voice.

I’m not really an Amin fan either. He’s ok. It’s not just his fit with King, it’s mostly his voice. Very clear and professional, but for me, he’s just lacking that je ne sais quoi that makes a play-by-play announcer’s voice sound really cool, even if you don’t actually like them (eg - Joe Buck). I think it sounds overly young maybe? Trying too hard? Tough to put a finger on it.

Between the two of them, we could do worse. I’m mostly ok with King because he does bring some great moments, but it would be nice if he really toned down the knucklehead stuff.

I think Amin's pretty damn good at football, but on the other hand I agree that there is something about his voice that doesnt really grab me for basketball.

I miss Wayne Larrivee.

I loved Larrivee and Tom Dore. I think people kind of hated on them at the time because they’re kind of dorks, but man I thought they were great.
