But I dont actually think it means Ayo is moved. Ayo wasnt moved the last time when there were 5 guards already on the team.

When you figure the current signings so far this year, I think Ayo's number will be within the 140% of what we can pay.

Depending on what their respective trade values are, given the value of Tre’s deal and what we are hopefully trying to accomplish, it’s time to trade one of them for future looking assets.

We need a much bigger war chest and we can’t play all these guys. The strategy writes itself. Keeping both Ayo and Coby would be a big mistake (unless the trade offers are currently underwhelming).

But, I think it's a fair point that Essengue may not be a consistent rotation player to start the year.

Also worth noting, after this year, Collins, Huerter, Coby, Ayo, Vuc, and Carter will all be UFAs, so we'll have some really significant roster turnover next year (at the latest). It's quite plausible that we will trade a lot of those expiring guys this year too.

I don't think this is much of a continuity thing for the FO. We have a ton of continuity with the post trade deadline Bulls (whom played really well, debate aside for the moment on how sustainable that was), but that group was together for like 25-30 games?

Off the top of my head, Coby is maybe the only guy on the roster whom has been here over a year and projects to be a major minute guy (depending if you project Pat/Vuc as major minute guys).

I've made the point before that we have a bunch of players who could be moved during the year as they are 1) actually useful and 2) expiring. Attractive....

We may not be a GREAT team this year but we have much more flexibility going forward. Maybe we can even get some draft capital out of it! Please!

To me this is a good next move that they needed to make. If you watched the games he played for the Bulls Jones just brings a style of play that the others coming off the bench are not capable of providing. Yeah some highly touted 2nd round pick could have done things flashier and above the rim but the court sese and awareness of who is on the floor and what they can do makes Tre worth paying.

Yep. True PG that can defend PGs and get the offense organized.

I think Tre learned a lot from playing behind CP3.

First AKME contract I dont hate. I will not say I like it, but no hate. But this is basically Ayo's replacement.

You hated Coby's, Ayo's and Lonzo's contracts? I thought AK did really well with all three.

$8m for a player that can produce 14.5/7 on good defense, great shooting.

With most of AKME moves being questionable to date, this one stands out as one of the few exceptions and was a great value signing.

I don't think defense, dribbling, or playmaking will be inconsistent. That 3P shooting will absolutely not sustain though. He shot 50% for Chicago.
For San Antonio, in the same season, he shot 30%. The year before 33%. The year before, 28%. The year before 19%.
It was a hot streak over a dozen games, happens all the time to all players even Dalen Terry.

Jevon Carter shot 42% for a full season in Milwaukee, regressed back to 32% in Chicago.
What's ironic is that he's replacing Ayo, who also shot 40% from 3 last season, then regressed back to 32%.

Carter, Ayo, I wonder if Tre is just the next bench PG in the disappointing follow up season cycle.

I explained Lonzo already. Forgot about Ayo's actually. That was good deal. But I disliked Coby's deal. He didnt deserve extension at that time. Ayo outplayed him in contract year for position even though Coby was in league multiple years already. And I was not for bringing both back.

Good point. Guess he won't be leading us to the title as our franchise player. Why did we sign this guy?

It's just weird to call someone who hasn't won anything a winner.

Its a common figure of speech for winning style of play. I'm not certain that is what he meant, but that is how I interpreted it.

I took it to mean he's a proven winner and can imbue that on to the rest of the team. If that was said about Caruso when he was here it would have made sense since he won a ring with LA.

But Jones has never played for a team with more than 39 wins.

I like Jones and the signing FWIW, I just wouldn't describe anyone on this roster as a winner.

You're over analyzing the language. "He's a winner" is a figure of speech, just like Duck said. Tre Jones played for Duke, one of the winningest colleges in history. You don't have to win a championship to be called a "winner."

PG Jones
SG Okoro
SF Giddey
I think that's as defensively sound as a backcourt featuring Giddey is ever gonna get. The big questionmark is Okoro on the offensive end. Why doesn't he have a good jumpshot already? It's been five years, dude!
