No the Rockets pitch to Carmelo is having a "Big 5". Lowry/Harden/Parsons/Melo/D12. This is the real reason why Lowry has yet to sign back in Toronto as of now. Morey's pitch is one of we may be in the west but we will be able to put one of the best starting 5's on a NBA floor in league history. This info is not being reported by BSPN but it is the truth. My gut tells me Melo stays in New York or comes to Houston. Morey is a great salesman.

League history? That's way over the top.

Also I don't see there being enough ball to go around. Lowry, Harden and Melo are daily ball dominant.

If they can pull that off- it'd truly be formidable.

Any idea how that would work salary wise?

Dwight- 21.44
Harden- 14.69
Melo- 20?
Lowry-
Parsons-
cap holds 7x.507
That leaves $3.5M in cap, $17.3 to the tax apron. right?

Dude I honestly don't know how they could pull it off either, but if anyone could it would be Morey. He is a good GM that is ultra aggressive and Let Alexander has said many times he is not afraid of the luxury tax.

Even Morey doesn't have special powers that let him circumvent the salary cap. Only way it hapens is if Lowry & Melo agree to split 21 million.

Fair enough. Just be aware that we've sliced and diced the cap from a Bulls' perspective. I'm not saying it Morey can't pull it off but as you can see- the numbers don't add up based on a cursory review of CBA rules.
Honesty is my only excuse.

KeithBoothfan wrote:The chatter that Chicago "offered 15mil and Melo won't take it" may be true in a strictly literal sense. The meeting went on for a long time. I'm sure that at some point the Bulls said "this (15mil) is what we can offer you right now, after amnestying/dumping Boozer and other minor moves we can make. We'd be thrilled if you would sign at that number, but we know you're worth more than that. Now, let's discuss how we can open up more space...(discussion continues)"

The discussion undoubtedly included contingencies and alternate scenarios. If the entire contract/financial discussion was "we're offering $15mil, take it or leave it", I'd be astounded.

Well put. You have certainly recovered nicely from your Taj-kamikaze theory ;-)

The Paxil helped. :) I still think my idea was more nuanced than that, but I've moved on. 8-)

The Rockets, if they get rid of everybody except Dwight, Harden, and Parsons cap hold could have about 21-22 million in cap space that Melo & Lowry would split.

And no defense.

I wouldn't even go to the mall if I had Melo's money, I'd just hire some people and say "here, go buy some things I might like"

Yeah exactly, rich people don't shop (famous people get stores closed off to themselves if they want) because shopping sucks! They hire people to do it for them.

I'm aware of your guys' opinion on Isola. That's why I take anything right now as serving his own agenda. However, even a blind squirrel can find a nut. It could be true. But it is far more likely he's stirring the pot to get hits.

Agreed about Deng. He would a perfect fit in HOU.

As for LaLa we need to be proactive on this. Someone needs to find a way to get to her. We can't have this female spoiling our titles hopes because she like shopping on fifth avenue! :banghead:

It is so weird how teams are built post-lockout. I actually think Pat Riley started this and Darrell Morey perfected it. It's weird that a team that added James Harden and Dwight Howard over the last 2 offseasons could possibly free up $22 million in cap space for 2 more marquee players.

The Houston scenario sounds bonkers.

Powerhouse starting-5, but how the hell are you gonna maximize your offensive potential with 2 guards who like to shoot off the dribble, 2 forwards with sub-par defense who like to shoot off the dribble, a center who wants to be a leader but also have fun / not give 110%, and a coach who likes to run low-post offense (yet he'll have 4 3P shooters). Sounds like a 2-year "get to know ya plan", at which point egos boil, Melo ages past his prime (as a No. 1 option), and everyone takes pay-cuts (besides Howard, the biggest goof of the group).

We are so much more serious-- if Bulls get him here while keeping Jimmy/Taj, we're gonna have an 8-man rotation set in stone with the most logical role-assignments ever.

Primary Dribbler: Rose (Pippen)
Primary Shooter: Melo (Jordan)
Defensive Anchor: Noah (Cartwright/Rodman)
Defensive Specialist coming into his own: Taj (Grant)
Intangibles/Lockdown Defender: Butler (Pippen)
3&D players: Kirk (Paxson), Snell, Dunleavy (possibly stays in a S&T scenario)
Young Offensive Talent with something to prove: McD (Kukoc)
Depth: (check)
Australian: Bairstow (Longley)
Very Hungry, (Relatively New) Mastermind Coach Looking for his 1st HC ring: Thibs (91 Phil)

I mean, we're looking at a morphed version of the 90's Bulls!

Here is the thing though... that Asik trade Houston made with New Orleans has not finalized yet. Per inside sources there COULD be more to that trade. Or it might open up ground for a SnT in this crazy Melo/Lowry scenario. Not saying it's probable but there is a slight chance for all this to go down.
