Was it the defensive scheme, the training staff, or are they just not good anymore? Why did eddie jackson suck? It cant be just the defensive coordinator, there must be other reasons too. If you figure these out, you still have a chance to get 10-12 wins next year, no matter the quarterback. I am all for replacing management (Pace/phillips/mccaskey), but you cant ignore this regression on defensive side of the ball while you address the QB/WR/O-line.

PFF gave mack his best seasonal grade ever (tied w/ 2016). sacks aren't everything

depends on what they give up, of course. the mack trade was stupid, but a young, elite QB is a whole 'nother can of worms. he'll be underpaid for the rest of his career unless the QB market catches up to what they're actually worth

just be prepared for it not to truly pay off for years if they give up valuable upcoming picks

if it wasn't ryan pace desperate to salvage his career (again) i'd feel better about this news. but it looks like he might get another crack at gullible bears fans with 'kick me' signs on their backs. and he apparently gets paid by the kick

I think it could pay off in year 1, followed by the clear downswing once his contract would kick in and then the stability for the next x amount of years having an elite QB. They'd have to keep ARob for at least a year to make it really work in year 1 but I think you could put yourself in contention for the Super Bowl next year with a little bit of luck with that trade.

Will be interesting to see what it will take to get Watson. 3 1sts?

Would Bears give up players and 1sts?

I didnt say sacks are everything, but I shouldnt have said he didnt perform. His play, including the last season, doesnt justify his salary. I looped him in because he is the highest paid player on the defense. Our defense is paid to be elite, and it hasnt been since 2018. He is underperforming with quinn, trevathan, jackson, fuller. They need to play to their salary level. Mack was closest to somewhat justifying his salary.

at this point in my life, i would probably not blink at the bears giving up a decade of picks to secure a good QB

Fangio loved him.

Sam Acho was pushing for him all week.

first indian descent person in a high coaching position in the NFL. props to the guy for breaking through. media reporting he was fangio's "right hand man". I am cautiously optimistic with this promotion. On the flip side, he was the safeties coach and eddie jackson regressed this year. Also, If fangio loved him, why didnt he take him with to denver? some red flags, but if he fails, just add him to the giant list of mccaskey failures over the last few decades

fangio put in a request to interview him, but the bears blocked it and promoted him

I think I remember hearing about his story a year or so ago.

He had a real interesting path to the NFL from what I remember.

Nah, not enough. Roquan, 3 1sts, and some more mid round picks. Is it worth it? Not unless the Bears fix the problems they have upstairs. Which they won't. If they're gonna trade for a QB I'd rather they knock on Philly's door and see if Hurts is available.

I like Desai as DC. Want to see some of that Fangio D.

Pace has to at the very least get a Minshew, Carr, or get a QB in the first round.

He drafted a QB. It didn't work out. He needs to go get someone he knows is good.
