Second try is a charm

Seems like a strong indicator that he’s washed up. Outside the big 3, Mills and Harris, the rest of that roster is...let’s put it nicely and say uninspiring.

Claxton is a good prospect.

Doesn’t do much to change the point.

Plus there’s trade rumors around Clax, and he plays about once every three games so far in his career. He has flashed ability, but he’s not keeping anybody out of the rotation. In fact, he has missed the last ~5 games and Millsap played only once.

“I think there’s a consensus around the league Millsap is washed,’’ one NBA talent evaluator said. “He doesn’t give them what they lost in Jeff Green unfortunately.’’

https://nypost.com/2021/09/02/nets-signing-paul-millsap-comes-with-some-concern-washed/

I question validity, and Twitter’s down right now, but there’s this Bobby Mire account that claims KD kept telling Millsap early that his game was like a 6’8” Felicio!!!

Is he still productive? Wish we would’ve landed LMA.

I'm not sure but it'll be nice to have another playoff veteran on the team, if anything else.

Simonovic for Millsap works...

Just saw the news that Marcus Smart is being shopped. What about:

DJJ, Troy Brown Jr, and the Blazers pick for Marcus Smart and Grant Williams. Smart's a pretty fantastic 5th starter and allows us to keep playing small ball. Grant Williams is a really solid, albeit unspectacular defender.

Would shore us up in a great way heading to the playoffs. Smart's also decent insurance for Lonzo and Zach in case they have health issues.

Just no to Marcus Smart. All that once good and beautiful with our offense would die, and wilt in agony.

Yeah, I don't disagree there. He sure shoots a lot for someone who's not particularly good at it. That said, I'll throw this in here:

Smart is on a big contract is he not?

Anything beyond what the Bulls offered Lauri, gotta figure is unaffordable

Boston's having a rough season and Smart wasn't helping anything by complaining to the media.

The Bulls already have enough guards (Lonzo, LaVine, Caruso, Coby and Ayo) and don't need him.

I’m 100% ok standing pat at guard.

Millsap… want him. But BKN wouldn’t actually trade him to the Bulls, would they?

His extension is slightly less than Lonzo's. Personally, I think this FO is going to push for us to pay the tax. We're a clear contender.

They probably already know where the Bulls will stand on it. My guess is that conversation doesn’t start until after a deep playoffs run

I have come to the realization that I want AC on the floor at the end of games, which puts Lonzo or AC defending at PF. I realize that they're small, but I am willing to live with it, because I don't think that any of the obtainable PFs will be significantly better, and Coby's resurgence in this atmosphere has made me think twice about trading either Coby or Pat.

So, I have moved from making a "big" trade (Barnes was always my guy), to a small trade (someone we can get with TBJ and filler plus our POR pick). Someone who doesn't need to start or finish games, but who can provide 20-25 minutes of good defense and adequate offense. My targets right now are Nance, Batum and Kenrich Williams. All are on teams that will at least be open to trading with us at the deadline, and each is a good defender. Nance is bigger and more expensive (2/20), while Batum and Williams are cheap and fit our type of combo SF/PF.

Marcus Smart isn’t worth paying the tax for. We have enough good guards. With all the injuries we keep sustaining this is starting to look more like just a stepping stone season.

Is there a way we can get both Lyles and Washington? Bulls can trade pretty much any of their cheap players straight up for Trey.

Smart and Caruso are redundant.

Millsap would be a 5 here…. not sure he’d be an upgrade over Tony Bradley, but probably would…. Like others have said, for Simonovic, sure… but not for more.

Doubt the Nets send him to a rival
