He's talking about the 'slap in the face' Houston gave him by having the Melo pics in Lin's number while Lin is still on the team.

Everyone knows Lin is gone, but its still kind of a crappy thing to do.

sure...but a little perspective, you're still in the NBA and still making millions of dollars. I don't think Jesus was thinking of a guy in Lins situation when he said that quote.

I watched the 'Linsanity' doc like 3 weeks ago, and pretty much everything he said was to follow God's way and believe in him the most when things are not working out the way you want, so yeah, big time religious guy.

it's a little over dramatic though, you're just moving teams in the NBA I don't think that requires a dramatic bible quote.

he can do what he wants, he is a believer and he should express his views on his personal account!

I don't think it's dramatic at all. Some people are really religious like that for one. I don't mind that either. But on a smaller scale, it's like you walking into your workplace and seeing your boss/bosses slobbering all over a guy and using your office to pitch to him where he is going to be sitting just as soon as they can off load you like they really want to. There is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things. What Houston did was wrong and disrespectful.

Not necessarily. If Melo does go to HOU and Lin was still on the roster somehow, he would have to go up his # because Melo has been in the league longer. In and of itself it is no insult, although I do agree he is a goner.

I think I figured it out, but it requires New York and Toronto to play ball.

Houston sends Lin + 2015 first to Philly for cap space.

Houston sends Asik to New Orleans for Austin Rivers + 2015 pick

New York signs and trades Melo to Houston for capspace for some incentive. New York gets a huge trade asset with the TPE and perhaps a pick or international prospect. What I am unclear on here is what salary Melo would be at. Would it be at Rockets cap space amount or Rockets cap space + the 125% or 5 million.

Toronto signs and trades Lowry to Houston for Rivers + Jones + Dmo + Motie + whomever to get to Lowry's starting salary.

If you're S&T into cap space you have to match within 100k (salaries and cap space have to be within 100k of melo salary).

Assuming Melo takes 15 million that is less than 7 million in cap space for Lowry. Rivers, Jones, and D-Mo is only about 5.5 million.

It's not enough to showcase Dwight/Harden/Parsons, you have to add the Lowry pipe dream?

Religious or not, Lin-Insanity is an overrated player. He has a disproportionately large fanbase, but in the end It's all a business. We did the same thing to Kirk Hinrich in 2010, just cut ties to be in the race.

That's what I was just trying to figure out. It must have been a lot less than 2 hours of face time.

Why even make the trip?

I'm telling you, Dwight Howard has a way of turning you off.

When I met him during the lockout, one of the first things I said to him was, "so you must really be missing playing right now" and his answer was, "Nah, not really. Now I have time to explore other things." Basketball is a job to him. He's an amazing talent of course, but if I were a player I probably wouldn't bank my remaining prime years of basketball on him.

They also brought Drexler into the meeting. I loved watching him play, but he is one of the most boring personalities out there. It's a snooze fest listening to him speak.

A lot was made out about Anthony and Lin's relationship in NY, but Anthony has always maintained that he was a big supporter of Lin. If they have remained friendly at all, then he may have been turned off by the number thing.

Simmons always gets a bee in his bonnet when he thinks teams are cheaping out. See his nonstop flogging of the OKC Harden trade. He often makes good points in his rants, but just as often he exaggerates or forms a biased view of what actually happened. So Simmons has the "Reinsdorf is cheap" meme burned into his brain. Oh well, he's not the only one.

In any event, it's no particular talent to talk about how you'd spend more of other people's money than they are.

Dude I wouldn't cut Simmons any slack. He makes a lot of money to talk basketball and ignorance to the history and facts of the topic he is discussing is not forgivable.

Look at a guy like David Aldridge who doesn't go over the top with criticism and has decent to excellent knowledge of almost every team. He also doesn't just make sh%t up if he doesn't know he says so.

Getting a little OT but I blame ESPN for elevating Simmons' profile by putting him on TV so much more and holding him out like he's a real pundit/journalist, than I blame Simmons. He was good in his niche as superfan/writer/goofball and he put together a (mostly) great team of writers at Grantland. That's all he should be doing, IMO.

anyway. Melo, rah rah!!
Can I borrow a feeling?

Ok. But without clearing all salary first and getting down to just the basic cap hold amounts, I think they'd be over the cap at some point in those transactions. Unless multiple TPEs are invovled. If that's Morey's pitch, I'm sure there's some combination/house of cards to make it work. I don't know if we'd be able to come up with it.

Curious- how do you feel about the length of the meeting? 2 hours feels short to me.
Honesty is my only excuse.

I genuinely believe he's listening to these pitches but telling the teams he plans on going to the Bulls.

9 hours or 2 hours. He still has all day left. Why would he leave this early?
