What should they have done differently? I ask that of anyone that is positioning themselves to throw a kiddie tantrum against the front office for basically handling the situation almost flawlessly.

Fyi this was the first tweet I could find on Noah in LA. This guy also states that Noah told his cousin he was there to recruit Gasol (which has since been determined to be correct) AND that Melo was staying in NY due to money.

The Bulls haven't even lost on on Carmelo yet, but the groundwork is being set for the revisionist "Bulls wouldn't trade Taj to get Melo" history.

2010 proved a rigged ballgame, but I can find plenty of room to second guess their presentation and approach. Really, everything they did Tuesday seemed just as it should, though.

So far no NBA GM has recruited a player to his team that didn't want to go there already.

These are grown arse men, not awestruck high schoolers with a living legend in their homes.

You're actually slightly more optimistic than I am. It's tough, because the routes to us signing Melo are so few. Gutting the team and signing him outright has obvious problems. Doing a sign-and-trade has obvious problems.

The FO can't work magic, people. There are a few avenues, and they are very difficult. The odds are simply not in our favor.

Well not from me. Initially I felt that way. It seemed like GarPax were abiding with Noah's request that Taj not be dealt in exchange for his services recruiting Melo. I felt that was an extreme disservice to the team by Noah and the team was better off with Noah taking the same stand as Rose i.e. be very complementing of Melo and insist you can play with anyone while being hands off beyond that.

However, we soon learned from KC that it was in fact a demand from Melo that the Bulls retain Taj if he were to come here.

In other words it was a catch 22 for us. Nothing we could do.

For the optimists: Woj says Melo is deciding between the Bulls, Rockets and Knicks.

Lol come on guys.

Joakim is not just gonna blab to some guy at the airport. Get serious.

I'm a little worried about the report Melo asked Pau to go to NY. (But how would that even work?) But don't be worried about the dude at the airport lol.

If you guys did have to move Taj for Melo

Then you should go after Malcolm Thomas or Markieff Morris

Darius Miles Davis wrote:I'm somewhat irritated today. We did a better job with this recruiting pitch this year, but I think we miscalculated again. Taj Gibson should not have been at the meeting. He should have been positioned as a potential candidate for a trade. A Rose/Butler/Melo/Noah is a strong place to start.

In not providing an option for max cap space, to some extent (arguable, I know), we once again made the organization mistake of not being willing to trade a lesser player for a star (such as Deng for Gasol, Deng for Kobe). We've done this before, and it's just not cool.

And, while I'm complaining, why are we continuing to look at other SF like Ariza? Right now, we have three talented SF types on the roster: Butler, Dunleavy, McDermott. If not Melo, why not try to pry a talented shooting guard away from another team with cap space (Boozer amnesty) and other assets?

People need to step back and think about this. The Bulls would have to be COMPLETE idiots to not have thought of this. They had Rose give a workout in front of Rose, you don't think they thought of the money angle?

The most likely scenario is that it was discussed with the agents. If Melo wants max money, here are the routes we go to get it.

This Taj thing is taking on a life of its own and its based on assumptions and a few poorly sourced tweets.

.......

People just don't want to accept this. The Bulls basically made a "best case" roster pitch to Melo with the promise that money would be taken care of and he is still saying no. He just wasn't that into us.

People just want someone or something to blame because the idea that just playing for the Bulls isn't all that attractive is something people don't want to consider.

Fish, I agree that this was most likely not going to happen. But I still claim that Taj shouldn't have been at the meeting. If we didn't provide the 1) with Taj and 2) without Taj option, then we didn't give it our best shot. And if there was a behinds the scenes without Taj option, why was he at the meeting?

I think we could have appeared more flexible, which would have made our presentation stronger. Yes, it most likely wouldn't have mattered.

He was right about noah in la and gasol. I tend to believe that noah also told him about melo. Combined with the sudden unplanned trip to LA and the recent national media skepticism I think the Bulls see the writing on the wall.

I could definitely see the bulls going all in for love and do something quickly.
