Bulls trade Dunn

Phx trades 32nd pick

For the Bulls, it clears some salary for free agency, allowing them to make a really strong offer to someone like Brogdon, and they’ll now have the 32nd pick and the 37th pick, combine the two and maybe trade up to the late 20s. Or trade both for the $$$ for Rein$dorf, idk.

I'd do that...obviously, PHO would need to have struck out for Morant and Garland.

Should be pointed out that both guys are FA's - so not trade targets but FA ones.

Ellington's a very good bench shooter, but wouldn't really target him myself. He's not really a premium guy, a very gettable journeyman, and I don't see enough of a need on the wing to justify paying Ellington over running with what we have and having Sampson/Alkins as 3rd string development/depth.

We have Otto and Hutchison at the 3, and at the 2 we have Lavine and Valentine will be back, who shot near 39% from 3 on a high volume in his sophomore season. He's not as versatile in terms of coming off screens and stuff, but he's still a quality shooter who can spot up as well as pull up off the dribble, and of course he's an actual quality decision maker/passer who can handle as a secondary creator, and I would say he's a little better defensively just because of his size/length. I would rather Val, especially considering the multi-ball handler system that we went to late this season.

That's all without considering the outcome where we draft a 2 or 3 like Culver/Langford/Barrett/KPJ/Reddish etc., which will make any further wing acquisitions absolutely redundant.

As for Ish, I do really like his game - he's been a quality backup for a while now who can push the pace and get guys involved. He's not efficient and can't really shoot though, and he's not a good defender. With the money we have available, I don't think there's any excuse not to get a starter quality PG.. Ish would be a very disappointing get in my eyes. Perhaps in a scenario where they draft a PG and Ish is a cheap target as a backup it makes sense, but there's still no excuse not to use more money for a better player.. unless they're splitting the FA money between a PG, SG and PF/C equally, which I think is a terrible way to approach team building.

Typical Bulls behavior, look at the worst team in the playoffs and be interested in their players. SMH. Why am I not surprised.

I don't mind either guy, but was hoping they'd take a swing at a big name before settling for role players. Ish's strength is that he is one of the best in the league at getting the ball up the court as quick as anyone in the NBA (which Pax said he wanted). Interest in him suggests we are targeting a PG in draft. Ellington is a poor man's Korver and an average defender - there's always a spot for that.

We should sign Seth Curry.

Bulls are looking for vet players for mentorship, but if we would go after Ellington, that means Selden is gone, also TLC..

I had hoped we'd have a keeper in one of them, but neither proved to be more than a 3rd string talent. I'd rather have Harrison than either guy.

Signing Ish and Ellington, 2 mediocre role players in their 30s is such a Bulls thing to do. Let’s hope this is false.

Anyways, the Pelicans may be looking at keeping Davis. Trading Hill and Moore saves them 20 million in cap space to go after a big time free agent. 20 million is also roughly what the Bulls have in cap space.

Hill + Moore + 7th pick in the draft for Dunn. Bulls take on a ton of salary for the 7 pick.

This likely means they’ll be bad for another year as the only big additions will be two rookies. But if they can move up and nab Morant, and then use the 7 pick on Hunter, they’ll be oozing with potential as a team.

Morant, Archi
Lavine, Denzel
Otto, Hutch
Lauri, Hunter
WCJ, Lauri

Fun team

idle thought: if the sixers flame out and do a panic trade of simmons, is there any package we could get them to bite on that makes sense for us?

the tricky thing is, it'd be nice to pair simmons with a good stretch 4 in markkanen, but i'm pretty sure you'd have to include him in any trade (assuming this year's pick is off the table if we win the lotto). even if by some miracle they were willing to trade simmons for a package built around lavine, i don't think the sixers can put together the salary to make a deal work. obviously carter isn't going to move the needle for them much either.

i really like simmons, so i'd still probably do something built around markannen + this year's pick, top 1 protected. but i dunno if they'd really want to be getting younger if they were in a position where they thought they had to move simmons, because that feels like a win-now move.

it's also hard to gauge what simmons's value might be because of how much his haters really hate him, but how much his supporters really like him. feel like that proposal could be wildly off in either direction depending on who you ask

Ish does nothing for me. You need a good PG in this league today.

If Ish Smith is our starting PG next season that will be a **** joke. I don't even want him as our backup They need to be looking at guys like Beverly and Rubio in free agency if they are serious about trying to make the playoffs.

They would ask for way too much and if they are willing trade him this early that would send me some major red flags. He is a young HOF level talent and their franchise after Embiid finishes falling apart.

Wayne Ellington is sort of developed version of what we're hoping Selden could become.

Ellington and Smith are guys that can be had on the waiver wire or vet min type deals. FO has it ass backwards if these are the deals they are planning to make during the summer.

Ya, I was about to post something along those lines after last nights game ended, if there were doubters before he shut a few of them up recently.

If we strike out in FA, I wonder if a Dunn/Felicio for Avery Bradley deal could be had?

Isn't Bradley a FA?
