It took the to overtime to beat Seattle with Geno Smith at QB.
Without Russ, Seattle is a bottom 5 team. Pittsburgh is really freaking bad. Big Ben is cooked.
How do people feel about DeMeco Ryans? SF is 16th in DVOA this year, 6th last year (with a **** of injuries) and 2nd in the year before. The Bears took a step back on defense until this year because Fangio was so good and Pagano was just average but Dasai has really gotten off to a hot start for us.
Kittle will be out against us and they still haven't solidified their running game yet. If Hicks is back in the rotation by then, the Bears should be a decent favorite in that game.
I think 49er fans are mostly happy with Ryans. Our top CB tore his ACL week 1, and our #2 CB missed the first couple of games.
Ryans caught flak after the Packers game because we blew coverages on back-to-back plays that allowed them to get into FG range for the game-winner.
Against Seattle, the defense started the game with five 3-and-outs, but the offense couldn't capitalize. And our kick returner fumbled a return and set up Seattle immediately in the RZ.
Defense was excellent at Arizona, holding the Cards to 17 points.
Niners will probably finish top 10 on defense by the end of the year.
Offense is still wonky. Jimmy G has been figured out by D--coordinators, i.e. he doesn't throw deep and he doesn't throw outside the numbers. Clutter the middle of the field where he thrives. And running game is still getting its footing after Mostert got injured on the second play of the season.
