K.C Johnson‏@KCJHoop

3 yrs/25M more palatable for Bulls to match than 4 yrs/32M, especially when they can amnesty Boozer for 2014-15. Interesting decision

Asik's value will diminish a little bit, not a ton. His value as a trading chip would be the same value he would have to us in terms of resigning him. He's not only a rotational player on reasonable pay in the first 2 years, but you have his last year as a GIGANTIC expiring contract. Even if he sucks, that expiring will still be valuable as an expiring.

Yep, I think 5/5/11/11 would have been worse.

Here's another game: find me an expiring contract of greater than $12 million that returned something other than a bad contract.

Morey has geared the contract like this for 2 reason:

1. To have a massive expiring
2. To ensure he makes it as difficlut as possible for us to match.

It would be a silly move and we'd be complaining about matching this deal and having 27 million wrapped up in the centre position.

1.It doesn't go against the salary cap for Houston same as it goes for the Bulls. Rockets wouldn't have to pay him $15M in the last season.

I might sound crazy but I think they should match. It is only for three years. And if it is three years only,Houston is not so crazy/reckless to give a 4th year.

As a Bulls fan, as long as the Bulls don't lose the MLE for going over the LT, I don't care about the repeater tax or whatever money they have to give to other teams. Plus, the 3rd year of Asik's contract is screaming "Amnesty for Boozer". Technically, then you are probably overpaying Asik by how much in the 3rd year?

If a team picks up Boozer for 7/8 mil, then the Bulls are paying him 8 mil. The Bulls are overpaying Asik by maybe 8 mil or a little more in year 3. Plus, he is an expiring contract

Okay, I've let it simmer for a few more minutes. My conclusion..............see you Omer! It's been real, but there is no way I match that offer. None. That third year is a back breaker.

Congrats to Houston for structuring a deal that we couldn't match. Enjoy Omer. Good guy, terrible hands.

It freaking sucks how absolutely nothing positive has happened to this team since the playoffs started. It's all been extremely negative.

-Rose ACL
-Noah ankle
-Losing to sixers in first round
-about to be losing Korver, Watson and Brewer
-Have to cripple the franchise to keep another bench mob player

I guess Teague is a positive but not for the immediate future.

Seriously, the biggest reason besides Rose that the Bulls were so good was their bench. And we are about to lose 4 of the 5 best bench players from last year (Taj being the 5th). This team is going to be very mediocre next year.

all I know is, the when the Bulls missed out on their showdown with the Heat, they missed their boat. Now the Bulls are never going to be as good as they were this past year with this group. Either trade for Dwight or unload even more future salary for a rebuild if Asik is not matched. The strength of the Bulls front line defensively and the bench was their calling card and winning factor. The Bulls starting unit was no great shakes. Once the bench is gone, so is the title shot. Big decision time.

If we're keeping Joakim, then I don't think we can afford to match.

Why can't you match and trade him during the 1st 2 years when he is making 5 and 5.2 million?

That way at least we get some value out of it. Letting him walk means we get nothing.

Letting him walk for nothing means we avoid a horrible three-year contract for a backup center. It's significant compensation in its own right. Why do we have to bend our team over for Omer Asik?

Do you know difficult it is to match up a $15M contract, especially one for a guy who plays 12-15mpg? Who do you think the Bulls are going to get for that?

Why would you hve to match 15M? If you trade him in the 1st 2 years all you have to do is match 5 million.

Also, if Houston thinks 3 25 million is reasonable for Asik now, it isn't like they will think that is outrageous if we trade him to Houston this Nov or Dec.

Can you tell me what team is going to be in a rush to pay $15M for Omer Asik for one season? I repeat 15 MILLION. Andrew Bynum doesn't even make that much. Al Horford doesn't even make that much. Omer Asik would be the Bulls 2nd highest player and he's a backup center.

I don't think some of you are putting this fully into perspective about how awful that last year is. It is freaking poisonous.

When a team has a player who makes that much money per year or two or more more years and they get asik who s expiring, but useful despite being overpaid plus young players or picks. They save money long term trading for asik while rebuilding with young players. That's why asik could be tradeable in expiring year. Look at kwame as example in gasol deal.
We have Martell Webster. He's called Kyle Korver here, and we shall love him and squeeze him and call him Ashton. -BrooklynBulls

that expiring deal at 15 mil(BYC or not) would be a nice trade chip to add to make a deal work.

What team is going to trade you a really good player for a $15M backup center? And why would the bulls trade for a bad contract?

It's a poisonous salary. The Bulls aren't going to get anything worth a **** back.

I think that's the point though. You use the 15 million expiring to get another guy worth about 15 million.

Give me just one example of trade like that ever happening.

I kind of addressed this in my next response... I don't really think it will happen.

We're elite defensively. What some here are proposing is weakening the thing that makes us elite, and finding a whole different way to be elite instead. Magically, eliminating Omer will make us elite on offense, according to some. And they pretend the defense will not suffer in doing so.

Why not stay elite at one thing and then work on the other? Try to have a success with either a future MLE or a draft pick?

Okay correct me if I'm wrong....

For the first two years Asik potential new contract will be $5 mil(which isn't bad.), but the third season is $15 mil(Which is ridiculous.) correct? If so, while Bulls shouldn't match the offer but it may not be bad however if they do match they have to get rid of Boozer, or Noah problem is no one wants to trade Boozer, the team do not planning to amnesty Boozer this season, and I woudn't trade Noah unless there is a certain players like Dwight(Unlikely since his ego, or hate on the organization don't want to come to Chicago.), Eric Gordon(Unlikely.), James Harden(Unlikely.).

I really hate Moray.

If Bulls sign their own player, they can sign Asik to $8.3 million a season for 3 years

They then trade that contract to Houston.

The $5 mil limitation is if he signs an Offer Sheet with Houston. But if they skip the offer sheet & do a S&T, there is no limitation on first year salary

that is the incentive for Omer and Andy (his agent) to do a sign & trade

If the Bulls don't keep Asik, isn't it likely they keep Korver? They had been thinking of keeping him anyway and now they'll not be spending what they allocated for Asik.
