If they do that trade, they'll include Belinelli. 17 million for 13 million is what it comes out to, and guess where that lands us? Out of the tax.

Next year, we can easily send 3 million with Kirk Hinrich's corpse if we needed to avoid tax again.

Not only that. JR is going to look at it from a BOTTOM LINE perspective. Amnesty Boozer and assume another team's winning bid is $8 million per. JR is still on the hook to pay him the other $16 million over two years. That is like having another player for $4 million even in the tax. Not that we would go into the tax but it makes it more likely if we have to and makes the BOTTOM LINE A LOT better. Now that trade looks even better cause it saves the $4 million per year, plus the $8 million he would have to pay Boozer in an amnesty. It's a $24 million savings over two years. Not even including any tax we may have incurred.

Plus Humphries is off the books in 2014 or he a $12 million expiring trade chip next year. Boozer is on the books for $16.8 that year. Even in an amnesty he's gonna cost quite a bit.. same as paying tax if you're only looking at the bottom line.

Plus, we get a SG who can create shots and score.

Plus, we get rid of Boozer and can start Taj and Marshon and just be a better team for it.

Win, win, win, win.

He can't be "overpaid" when he is already on a reasonable contract (7.7m / year) through 2014/15 (with a player option for 2015/16).

And yes, on the Bulls, with his skill-set and being coached by Thibs, I believe he would be a "near" All-Star!

I'd love to trade Boozer for Fat Fetus and AA. FF is on a good contract and is a nice player of the bench. AA is just about perfect next to Rose. I wouldn't think twice abou this trade.
Hump and Brooks for Boozer would also be nice!

Thanks for sharing Ralph!

We could probably have more serious discussions if people would quit pretending that JR only looks at things from a BOTTOM LINE perspective.

He amnestied Eddie Robinson and paid him $10 million over 2 years. He paid Jay Williams a $3 million buyout when he didn't have to give him a penny. He fired Scott Skiles and paid him to not coach for over two years.

How did those moves help the BOTTOM LINE?

He brought in Kirk and Marco this summer instead of two minimum salary players, costing about $8 million between salary and luxury tax, how exactly did that help out his BOTTOM LINE?

And that new multi-million practice facility they are building next to the UC- the one he is building without even asking for any tax incentive from the city- how is that helping his BOTTOM LINE?

Probably never.

Teams discuss trades all the time, and very few of them actually take place.

It's still great info, thanks Ralph.

If the deal is with Orlando, the deal I prefer is Boozer + Fillers for Redick + Harrington. Al's last two years of his contract (2013-2014 and 2014-2015) are non-guaranteed.

I would do the Utah deal if Alec Burks is involved.

Would have to be some pretty considerable fillers. That's basically a full salary dump. I'd like that too, but doubt we'd be able to do so. Would take at least 2-3 draft picks + Mirotic to convince ORL to take that deal.

If there is a market for Boozer that leads us to a salary differential of $9M in the last year of contracts between say Boozer and Glen Davis .......and , knowing we had Mirotic coming , and , having a view on Noah as a 4 man ...then I would presume they would have known all this over the summer

In which case the loss of Omer Asik is a major pooch screw

JOMER with Boozer as a 6th man and cash Taj in for a pick or a 2 guard upgrade with Hamilton if there was an option available

And before people bleat about Omer's cost in his 3rd year we would either have the salary diff of Boozer/Davis to balance out , or , if that trade wasnt doable ( or any trade for Boozer wasnt doable ) then amnestying Boozer still would have had us at quid pro quo when Asik's $15M kicked in

I mean if Boozer's final year cost is $17M and he hooks on for $7M elsewhere then its a cost of $10M ( but not against cap but still a cost nonetheless ) - Asik would be at $15M probably on a fair market value of $9M - in which case you are over paying him $6M for 1 year , even though he's probably under market in the first 2 years of his contract ( slightly ) which would balance out what you pay him in the 3rd year anwyay

The point being is that $7M you duck out on paying Boozer ( his catch on cost elsewhere ) balances out what you are paying Asik in the 3rd year - by which time you've got $30M tied up in a core 3 man rotation of Asik, Noah and Mirotic - and around another $3M tied up in the 4th and 5th big ( draft pick and vet ) - $33M for a 5 man big man rotation is perfectly fine by me and doesnt upset payroll structure ....assuming you resist the temptation to pay Luol Deng stupid money when he rolls over and the bad ass contracts of Kirk Hinrich etc are not repeated.

Bottom line is Asik is actually elite and a defensive game changer. Gibson is good but he isnt the stopper / game changer Asik is

Bulls Management farked this one up.

Anyway.... as to the names / teams been thrown around ....Orlando does make some sense to me

I don't know why they would commit big money to Reddick when they have decent cost tied up in Afflalo . I suspect Bulls would value Al Harrington more than Glen Davis and Harrington could give us options on the forward line if we decide to sell high on Deng ( and if we dont have intent on paying more than $7M to $8M in going long on Luol after next season )

So Harrington and Reddick would be an ideal swap for Boozer ( for the Bulls ) but that would still leave the Magic with Davis and Boozer ( and Nicholson ) at the Power Forward spot....so I guess Davis would be the guy to send back

I wouldnt mind Davis so much . I think he led the league in drawn charging fouls a couple of years ago in Boston and he and Thibs would have familarity with each other. Obviously not a shotblocker but he can plug the lane , defend the post and get on the boards. I'd take him if we also got a shooter like Reddick back for Boozer

Maybe a 3 way with Gortat/Dudley going to Chicago, Boozer going to Orlando, and Phoenix getting Afflalo/Vucevic/O'Quinn/Bulls pick/Magic pick ? :-?

Actually....Orlando is already at around $84M in cost

Davis/Reddick/Harrington cost $19.087M

Boozer and Hamilton cost $20M

Add a 1st round pick to this deal and cash considerations to cover the diff and the buyout cost of Rip next year and it could be a pretty interesting deal , only if , it is true that the last 2 years of Harrington's contract are non guaranteed

Resign Reddick at around $5M per and he and Davis's cost put us at a minus $4M in comparison to Boozer's cost and Hamilton's buyout cost next year

Well, the BOTTOM LINE is that JR is a businessman and if they get the chance to trade Boozer and not have to amnesty him, assuming the trade makes sense, the Bulls will likely jump at the chance. My scenario, which I believe is good for the team and would save over $20 million is just good business and a smart basketball move.

The $16.8 million last year of his deal is the killer and the FO would love to dump it. Especially if they have a good indication that Nikola is coming and when.

Draft picks.

The Magic have to pay someone to at least stay at the minimum salary, and at least Boozer gives them some offense. He would allow them to play Big Baby as their back-up center.

Their backup center, Gustavo Ayon, only gives them 3/3 in 12 min, and he's only blocked two shots all year.

Playing Baby at backup center would also open up PF minutes for rookie Andrew Nicholson, who has looked promising so far this season.

Turkoglu and Harrington are only partially guaranteed for next season, so they can get them off the books next summer. Jameer Nelson is owed $8 million next season, but only $2 million guaranteed for 2014-15, and he could really help the Bulls with Rose out.

They might rather give the minutes to E'Twan Moore, who has played very well starting when Nelson has been out with injuries this season. They also might be interested in Teague, basically giving them another first-round pick, though I don't know if the Bulls would be willing to deal him.

Reddick is gone after this season anyway, and the Bulls want him. We'd throw in Rip to cover JJ's minutes for the rest of this season.

They'd have to give us Josh McRoberts, who is also expiring and doesn't really have a future in Orlando.

So I'm thinking something like this:

Boozer
Rip
Teague
Bulls 2014 1st rounder
Bulls 2013 2nd rounder
$20,857,000

for

Nelson
Redick
McRoberts
$17,075,000

That leaves the Magic Boozer, Big Baby, Afflalo, and a bunch of rookie contracts and draft picks.

And it probably makes them worse this season, which only helps when you're playing the Lottery.

Kirk/Nelson/Nate
Redick/Belinelli
Deng/Butler
Gibson/McRoberts/Vlad
Noah/Nazr

This would also open up more small-ball lineups with Deng at PF, which I would like to see.

It saves us $3.8 million that we can use to sign a player or two if we need them for the rest of this season. Maybe pick up Troy Murphy for some more offense at PF?

Of course this is all just a guess based on Ralph saying the Magic are interested in Boozer.

You're undervaluing Mirotic right now. He may not have value right now, but once he steps foot in the NBA and translate his game to the next level, his value will skyrocket. You cannot include him just to get rid of an albatross salary. I will only trade him as part of a package to get a player like Kevin Love.

Trade Marquis Teague at your peril

He has major speed that translates into a ball handling penetrator / secondary creator in our offense.

I also really like his defensive potential

Check back in 2 years on Marquis ...and , if he stack guard/wing shooters like JJ, Morrow, Korver , Budinger to mix in with defenders like Deng and Butler ....a guy like Marquis has a skill set that fits our need if he develops properly.

Waaay too premature to be giving him up.

I reckon we have an unpolished gem on our hands
