Normally I would agree, but in this day & age where Tyler Johnson gets $50M long term, I'd say locking in a rookie to a 2nd rounder scale for multiple years might be a good GM move.

The Sam Hinkie maneuver gave the Sixers some ridiculous contracts by today's standards.

Robert Covington 13 ppg 6.3 rpg 2.5 3PM per game
Allan Crabbe 10.3 ppg 2.7 rpg 1.4 3PM per game

Covington $1.0M to $1.08M per year for 4 years.
Crabbe: $19M per year for 4 years

OTOH, Hinkie pissed off agents by doing this.

If there's a non-zero chance that Zipser could play at Covington's level, I'd say go ahead and lock him in for a few years by guaranteeing 2.

I suspect that Zipser and his agent did not want to tie Zipser up for four years, and thus the compromise was to scale the deal back to two years guaranteed and nothing more. This would give the Bulls Early Bird rights in case Zipser proves to be someone worth keeping.

well chicago never wants to be asik again they want these overseas players to have restricted free agency tags

I'm sure it's already been mentioned in the 7 pages but Asik _was_ a RFA. The mistake was that the Bulls only signed him for 2 years out of the gate instead of 3.

So they're setting themselves up for the same thing to happen again unless there's an option year.

It has been mentioned - it's also been mentioned that in Asik's case he had a tremendous amount of leverage to walk away from the deal if the Bulls tried to force years on him. Asik was well-compensated in Turkey and already had an offer on the table from his club team. There was no reason for him to take a 'bad deal' from Chicago

Can't wait to hear nuggets about Doug and Zipser going one on one at practice. That's something I would pay to watch

Just a reminder, DX had Zipser rated at #34.

The players immediately preceding and succeeding him on their mock were Diallo, Yabusele, Stone and Ulis, Qi, Zagorac and Whitehead.

I read recently that there were teams higher up than our pick wanting to draft him, but decided against it when the found out he wanted to come straight over.

According to someone on twitter which base on that video above that he refuse to sign an autograph to the kid because the boy said Germany is his 2nd favorite team, and not 1st. It looks accurate it's one thing if it's an adult but a kid? That is mess up, period.

That seems to be the sentiment based on the translation of the comments. :-?

Asik wasn't a 'poison pill' contract, it was the 'Arenas Provision'.

Asik was a two year because that's what he negotiated. Asik had leverage because he was paid very well over in Europe and was successful and happy. The Bulls needed him and were willing to make the deal.

The Bulls have to weigh the likelihood of a second rounder ever coming close to earning the MLE against the possible risk of carrying guaranteed dollars for 3+ years for a player who may not even last the season for you.

Felicio is two years because he was signed using the Minimum Salary exception - and it has a max of two years. I believe most second round picks and undrafted FA's are signed using the Minimum Salary exception, though according to Coon teams will occasionally use a part of the MLE to sign 2nd round picks so as to insure full Bird rights.

I just had flashbacks to the time you made the Asik arrival countdown while we watched Orlando summer league streams featuring Dante and Galante. Good stuff.

All-Time classic!
Yeah, the whole SL production has come a long way since the Dante & Galante days, that was OG hardcore hoops junkies stuff... That picture quality!!! Dante and Galante were the most entertaining thing about it.

That thread was a classic.

Dante and Galante was extremely awesome stuff. A bad stream with those two commenting... Summer league for junkies...

Lets see what this guy can do....there are 2 German kids that could enter the draft next year and be potential lottery picks. Hopefully Zipser has some game too, or he'll be Jud Buechler 2.0

Someone called him a degenerate in the comments Image

That's kind of f'ed up. The kid said when his home Serbia isn't playing he's going for Germany. Don't know where the disconnect was if it was because he was Serbian or because he didn't say Germany as #1. Either way petty as hell.

The kid is saying something I can't really understand and as Zipser walks away the man says "It was a joke!", but definitely a weird situation.

BTW, Zipser confirmed he'll play for the German NT after talking to the Bulls.

Is there a FIBA side tournament? I thought Germany didn't qualify for the Olympic tournament.
