Jones Jr deserved it. Gordon knocked Tacko’s head and the stupid commentators maintained he cleared him lol

Poor Aaron Gordon...when you think he's about to win a slam dunk contest, he gets a controversial score that makes him lose.

They would fix a lot by adding .5's to the scoring system, especially when nobody is rating a dunk under an 8 most of the time. It seems obvious, but I'm sure who's ever in charge has no clue.

Looked like he cleared his head but bumped into Tacko's hands.

Re: NBA All-Star Weekend Chicago 2020
I could cut/copy/paste my post regarding Allstar Weekend for the last __ years
Celebrity game - Pointless
Rising stars - Boring
Skills challenge - Boring
Dunk contest - Boring
3 point contest - This is the one event I actually care to watch and they have to go and ruin it with all these unnecessary additions like the full rack of money balls and now a shot from further out worth 3 points.
It doesn't need to be messed with, 25 shots from the 5 locations and whomever makes the most wins, they don't even need the money ball at all. I hated the old system that someone could make 4 less total shots than their opponent and still win, now with the full rack and the extra long distance shots it's even worse.
Anyway, pointless weekend as always and the game won't be any better
/ old man rant

Re: NBA All-Star Weekend Chicago 2020
All I know is that 360 windmill Gordon did off the toss from the side off the backboard was unreal.
Seems like fix was in on last dunk....DWade got a couple others to put up 9s with him. Weak.

Turn down for what?

Aaron Gordon shouldn’t have been able to dunk over Tacko to begin with cuz his previous dunk Def wasn’t a 50 . Derrick won

Re: NBA All-Star Weekend Chicago 2020
Seriously, I'm quite confidant that Wade wanted Jones to win from beginning.
1) He screwed Pat out of a point. Gave Jones a 9 on 1st dunk. Claimed he took a point off for missed attempt. Then Pat comes and makes it on first attempt, and Wade gives him an 8. NO WAY Jones dunk was better (Jones also put his hand on Bam's shoulder, pushoff/stabilizing in addition to missing first attempt)... at very least they were equal. That one point ended up difference allowing Jones to advance
(Both Pat and Jones deserved the 50 on their second imo).
2) That windmill dunk was not a 10. It def wasn't a free throw, he was a full foot+ (I think 2 feet) inside free throw. It was an extended and hard throw down windmill. Some 9s and 10s were appropriate ... but everyone else was consistent between the Jones/Gordon dunk ...
3). All that time spent after Gordon dunk, they could see each other's scores. I feel confident (since Wade was only one that downgraded his previous score to Jones I think) that he changed it to ensure Jones won. And yeah, he didn't CLEAR Fall at 7'5" ... Fall ducked a bit and Gordon's thigh clipped his hands and head, but it was still obvious he cleared 7'2" ... and there was def flare and excitement and surprise by using everyone's fav Tacko Fall haha.
Wade knew if the two tied, it was announced the five judges would decide an overall winner by picking one. So obviously Gordon would have been picked (guy had 5 50s ... and one of them was a top 5 dunk of all time, the one handed 360). So the only way Wade could ensure a Miami win was to get Jones to win outright.
Just saw a tweet from Ramona Shelburne that she spoke to Common. Common said they worked it out to be a tie but someone didn't put up the right score. Again, I think D Wade is a punk b****.

I can't believe the NBA thought Wade and Isiah Thomas was a good way to get Bulls fans hyped about anything.

Re: NBA All-Star Weekend Chicago 2020
I'm not outright disagreeing that the Gordon dunk wasn't a 50, but just want to push the reasoning a bit. Why not 50 for you.StunnerKO wrote:Aaron Gordon shouldn’t have been able to dunk over Tacko to begin with cuz his previous dunk Def wasn’t a 50 . Derrick won

Derrick Jones got a 50 for that dunk. So it's def quality wise a 50 if they are consistent from dunk to dunk.
I do think itd be fair to downgrade it because it's a dunk we've seen before (Jones did it).
But there's no way the dunk Jones did before that was elevating the game from previous dunks either. Gordon had just done of the side backboard one handed 360 windmill. Jones comes up and does off side backboard between the legs ... so he did the same set up but less impressive then what was just given a 50 point. I don't think that deserved 50 either.
(All that said, maybe Jones dunk that dunk off round is still a point higher than Jones, but neither of them were 50)

I laid out my anger in the post right above yours.Dan Z wrote:

To be clear ... I'm hyperbolic and in RealGM post mode haha. I got no qualifications to say that about him.
But as to my reasoning I laid out above, I do think he rigged his scoring to make sure Jones won. All night he was talking about Miami winning each event.
Common's comment that everyone talked and wanted to ensure a tie after Gordon's dunk, but one person changed their score further validates my suspicion.

Common was the best Chicago rep tonight.
They had a chance to have a beloved legendary MC perform and they swerved him for ... Damian Lillard???

Re: NBA All-Star Weekend Chicago 2020
We going to just ignore Gordon clearly pushing off to jump over people constantly?
He did the same thing with the under the legs thing
Can't expect to win with leapfrog dunks no matter how impressive they look.
The 360 off the backboard was nice, but the leap over someone off the backboard between the legs was the dunk of the night.
Jones deserved to win this one just like Zach deserved to win against Gordon too.
In the end though who cares?

Dunk contest was better than expected and doesn’t matter who won. Just don’t understand why Zach didn’t join? It was the perfect time to compete against Gordon in Chicago, doesn’t make sense that he declined it. Thought he would maybe come in as a surprise but that didn’t happen.
