It's hard to get past last year but it is pretty clear last year was the floor of the team with Boylen at the helm. Last year wasn't supposed to be a tank year but it turned to be.

The way they have competed the last 8 or so games, I can see them flirting with .500 going forward. Obviously that's if they continue to buy in.

Hugi Mancura wrote:Great shooting from Bulls. Everyone, except Coby and even he didn't have bad night, were having their best shooting night and Bulls still lost. 22 turnovers and 12 offensive rebounds meant Clippers took 15 fga's and 8 fta's more. Most likely Bulls won't improve their offense from that showing, so it is time to start improve the defense.

And people who were concerned about Zach's 3-point percentage should still be worried about it. One game doesn't change the situation.

It's not just one game, he was 4/7 vs the Lakers.

Either way, anyone who was worried about Zach's 3-point shooting nine games into the season deserves to be worried, because it was just plain stupid. I guess none of them ever heard about sample size?

Zach is now shooting 37.1% on the season, compared to his career 37.3%. Which should come as a surprise to exactly nobody.

We can enter the NBA middle class this year.

But the middle class is a very large group of teams now as there aren't many teams that are absolute garbage (like Detroit).

But you take away a couple of the vets (e.g. Otto, Sato, Thad), and I think this house of cards falls down. Obviously if Lavine is traded, it also crumbles.

I think Temple can more than cover for Otto right now. Sato and Lauri coming back will certainly make a difference. Even Arch can be helpful for spot minutes so Zach can "rest on the court" a bit for a few minutes each half.

Temple can "cover" for him but that's still a pretty big downgrade. Getting Sato & Lauri back will be key.

Yeah I don't think the guy with a PER of 8.1 can "more than cover" for the guy with a PER of 18.

Sato is solid enough, but it's not like we're replacing bad bench minutes with good bench minutes. We're already getting good bench mintues.

Lauri playing minutes instead of Thad/Otto/Pwill at the 4 is going to have negative effects defensively. Will it improve the offense enough to net out as positive? We're going to find out.

again your false agenda when everyone except the rookie doesnt play defense.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

I can point to some other examples. The Bulls are playing well but they have been screwed by personnel being out (Thad getting that leg infection murdered the team, now its just flat short handed). They also have been the victim of just luck shooting. Similar things happened in the above seasons. You could just tell early on that the losses were flukey or bad circumstances.

There is an old adage that good teams win close games. It really isn't true. Close games are luck.

IMO, if the Bulls can get their roster together and maintain this energy, they are going to go on a big run.

........

Man, the Lauri fans can be tough to stomach. IMO, they bring a lot of the Lauri hate on. I guarantee you that there are a legion of posters waiting to run him into the ground after his first bad game.

I would bet you any amount of money something similar will not happen this year.

defensive ratings

2005 - 6th (27th Off Rtg)

2007 - 1st (21st Off Rtg)

2011 - 1st (11th Off Rtg)

2020 - 28th

The same will not happen as we are not good defensively. It is way more likely that we are a .300 team.we would be lucky if we finish .400-.500

You sort of left out the part about how our offense is better than those teams? I added them in there, and this year's offense (18th before today) is looking to be much better than the 2005 and 2007 teams.

As for the 2011 team, they won 62 games, nobody in their wildest dreams has us around 60 wins this season.

Our defensive rebounding has been downright outstanding.

Before today's game, we were tied for 5th in Defensive Rebounding, that seems to me like the opposite of bad.

ESPN has them at 18th right now for defensive rebounds per game, tied for 12th in defensive rebound rate.

LaVine plays defense even if you won’t admit it. And he does not give up more than what he produces.

That’s not how it works. You can’t compare a teams offense from this year to a defense from past teams.

The 2011 team was expected to win games in the 50s.

Right now, all I gather from your argument is that we are 18th on offense and 28th on defense. I understand you have hope for better, which is ok. But it’s not objective.
