Another extra winning walk off!

Cubs are grinding out some wins. We need to stay healthy for a long stretch and go on a 7-10 game winning streak.

Cubs were lucky not to get swept. 6 runs in 3 games. Their offense is so anemic. And Hendricks gave up 2 runs in relief. He may soon become unusable, except in blowouts.

"Cubs were lucky not to get swept", hell they are lucky they did not go winless on the homestand. 10 runs in 4 games against Pittburgh. So that is 16 runs in 7 games. Cubs offense has been pure crap for a month now. Through in the fact the Cubs have to go on the road and face a hot Cardinals team and Brewers team, makes this a miserable time to be a Cubs fan.

And the sad part is, they're almost at full strength now. It's too bad because the pitching staff, apart from the closer, appears to be top notch.

Cubs season is looking like it's going to be over soon unless they suddenly get better somehow.

OTOH, Angel Hernandez is going to retire immediately. I count that as a win.

So Ben Brown had a no hitter yesterday after 7 and they didn't let him finish it?

Just as they start to hit again, the pitching has started to let up, and they're finding dumb ways to lose games.

Sucks to see Hendricks falling apart but they need to find a way to move on from him, Smyly, Madrigal, and trade for some power or bring some other bats up

Now they're losing to teams like the Reds and Pirates. Dansby is hitting .206. Happ .223, Yan Gomes a mighty .154. Morel, .200, Madrigal .221, Wisdom .218.

They need hitters, and lots of them.

The guys worth keeping are Belli, Hoerner, and Suzuki. And I guess you're stuck with Swanson. The rest of them need to go.

Counsell lived through a couple of losing seasons as a manager, his first and second years on the job in Milwaukee. The Brewers weren’t nearly as bad as the Sox, but nobody was singing Counsell’s praises back then.

‘‘It [was] always going home after you’re losing, you’re thinking about, ‘I could’ve done something better,’ ’’ he said. “When you lose, that’s what you think about. When you [win], it’s just easier to sleep.’’

For Grifol, Counsell said, ‘‘It’s got to be tough.’’

Well, then, how tough is it?

‘‘I’m sleeping good, man,’’ Grifol said.

getting swept in the crosstown "rivalry" is what finally gets Grifool fired, I bet.

When it was 5-0 I meant to put money on the White Sox bullpen failing harder than the Cubbies but I forgot. Dang.

Cubs drop another series. I think they scored 8 runs in 3 games. They're playing like it's 1967. It's too bad because I think their starting pitchers are excellent- Steele, Assad, Shota, Ben Brown, Taillon. I'd stack those 5 up against anyone. They may not have a Justin Verlander or Clayton Kershaw or Chris Sale, but 1 through 5 they're all solid.

The bullpen needs work. Mark Leiter is a disaster, a few other guys need to go too.

Ballesteros with the cycle.

He’s the best bat in the whole system. Reminds me of a lefty Miguel Cabrera. Just a natural hitter.

RIP Willie Mays. When I was growing up, there was Willie Mays, and then everyone else. And that was an era with guys like Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell, and Ernie Banks. But there was no one like Mays.

I think he has a strong case for being the best baseball player of all time. He could do it all and he did it better than everyone else.

I think so. He was the prototypical 5-tool player. Literally, I'm pretty sure his manager made up the term to refer to him. 600+ home runs, 300+ stolen bases, 12 gold gloves in center field. He really could do it all.
