Is that via your sources?

I'm excited. We've put yourselves in a great position. All we have to do is wait and see now, it comes down to Melo's priorities. If he's a winner, well, I think we just got ourselves a star player.

But in truth, let's not count our chickens before they hatch. I'm sure stuff will be coming out when he's at Houston and Dallas and LA so let's just stay the course.
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

edit 7/30/21: okay maybe not, but it was a fun ride nonetheless

Can't wait to get some sort of leaked info from Melo's camp as to how he felt about his Chicago visit.

Those guys are all well within their prime. Jo and Taj are probably just starting theirs. The window would be as long as their contracts ran together for.

Guess people jumped the gun a little early bashing Derrick for not recruiting Melo. Maybe next time wait until it actually happens before going crazy. Some people just love thinking the worst of guys.

He's turning down tens and tens of millions of dollars to sign with Chicago? For what? A slim chance at beating Miami? Why not take a bit more of a pay cut and sign with Miami if winning is truly the most important thing.

Or resign with New York for max money

Bulls will s&t for him and and send Boozer, Dunleavy and picks out. Anthony is a Bull. Deal with it.

The thing about a sign and trade is that it takes two. New York can say no and force Anthony to take less, find a different team to deal with, or stay for money. Lots and lots of money.

Melo wants to win and that's no secret and I could see him leave NY for Chicago. ESPN will cover more on sportscenter.

5 years as long as they keep balance on the roster.

edit- if they win. 3-4 is more realistic keeping them together.

Asks the Spurs?

You got
Jimmy 24
McDermot 23
Greg Smith 26
Snell 23
Niko 23

The Bulls have 4 guys who are in their prime or about to enter it.

Or am I reaching?

I think that's a reach. The rift itself may no longer be a huge issue, but even if it were, I'm sure GarPax realize that Melo is interested in playing for Thibs and not them.

I was pondering the same thing as the Gorilla. It's not just letting Thib's run the show in recruiting Melo, but I read an article earlier that Pax and Thibs overruled Gar in drafting McDermott (Gar wanted someone else). There was another article (maybe tweet?) out there that emphasized that the FO picked Dougie because it's who Thibs really wanted. It may be nothing, but OTOH, it sort of seems like Gar is kind of standing on the outside looking in.

ReanimatedBulls wrote:I still see Dallas as the wild card here I imagine he's the best pitch man in the league, but best basketball fit is definitely Chicago

Don't think there is much of a chance of Dallas. That roster is just too old, and if you're Melo, maybe they compete next year, but how quickly does everything start melting down around you?

I think Bulls are in the drivers seat. Just looking at the facts.

-Chicago/Houston are pretty even in the talent department (Houston probably has an edge, because Rose's health is unpredictable).
-Out of the two, Chicago is a better fit. They have the defense taken care of, and are begging for a guy to come in and take the scoring load, which fits Melo perfectly. In Houston he would have to share the ball with Harden, which could be problematic.
-All of the teams involved (Chicago, Houston, Dallas, and LAL) have the means to offer him a lot of money. Bulls are worst in this department and need some maneuvering, but if Melo declares intent to go to Chicago, all history of the NBA says that some type of arrangements will be made to accommodate Melo getting his money.
-New York can offer him the most money of any team however.
-New York also has a crap roster, with no championship potential for next season. They will have cap space to try it in 2015, but they have to get some people to sign there (and would guys take less money to go to New York if their home teams are offering the max?). Bulls/Rockets already have the guys in place.
-Lakers are the biggest wild card of the bunch just because they always seem to attract big guys, and they've been able to pull off rebuild jobs quickly.
-It's easier to win a championship playing the East than playing in the West.

With all that said, I think we're left right where we were headed into free agency. Smart money on where melo is going are the teams in this order:

1. Chicago
2. Houston
3. New York/LAL
4. Dallas

I think the Bulls are heavy favorites, and if not us, I think it's probably Houston, Harden/Dwight are a good pair of talented teammates to join, even if it's the West.

What you are failing to realize is that teams DO NOT do this....they don't keep another player from getting more money out of spite, or for revenge. This is a fact. Also, if Melo chooses that he wants to play for the Bulls, he isn't going to change his mind and go to the Knicks just because of that. That won't keep him there. You don't really understand the sign and trade. :banghead: The TEAMS don't have leverage. The player has leverage, and it comes down to his decision.

Exactly. And Jo should still be a solid enough big man in his mid 30's, Derrick should remain a franchise player if healthy into his early 30's, and who knows, maybe McBuckets or Mirotic emerges as a #3 (or even #2 :o ) scoring option by their late 20's. And we'd remain a favorable free agent destination with the ability to possibly woo another franchise player like Dallas and the Lakers are looking to do, like Houston and Miami did. Jabari Parker? 8-)

It was all a ploy.

I don't always recruit, but when I do it's for Kirk Hinrich and Carmelo Anthony!
