Spitting on someone is a pretty reprehensible act, and to do in on the opening play of the season, on national television- that's something that's going to follow him around for awhile.

Talent is important. And its just one play. He’s been fine. Nndamukong Suh had a career of bad behavior, and every team in the league would have loved to have his career.
Aaron Hernandez had talent.
It’s clear both are important, perhaps not to the same degree, but bad character can absolutely wreck a career.

Speaking of talent, I hope Maria Taylor has a long career in broadcasting. She's very good and easy on the eyes as well.

Nobody ever questioned talent as being important.
Hard for me to root for bad character though. Its a legitimate reason to not choose a player. This is who you choose to represent your business, your team, your city, and yourself really. I’m glad he’s not a Bear. You don’t have to agree.

Philly has lost a lot of it's veterans on defense the past two years- I wonder if that has something to do with it.

We will see. Personally the Bears need more dudes that are focused and geeked out of their minds and on the edge of disaster instead of inconsistent and losing focus

I’m still trying to figure out what the special character of the Bears has been.

Maybe so, but that is not an accurate description of Jalen Carter’s mentality.

It possibly was the same mentality as Shemar Turner had when he punched someone in the balls.

Yeah, I don’t know what that has to do with anything. I was noting that Carter was red-flagged in the draft process not only for character reasons, but also as a guy who liked to take plays off/loaf. I’ll admit I don’t know whether that is still an issue during his Eagles tenure, but he was onto known as a guy who was “geeked out of his mind.” He was known as supremely talented guy who had inconsistent effort and lost focus.

Dak spit on the ground towards and smiled at Carter.
Seconds later Carter walks up and spits on his neck.
I don’t think it will follow him at all

It has to do with Poles being inconsistent with the red flag acquisitions
Maybe if Darnell Wright was as dialed in as the coaches wanted, spitting on someone would be a step up for him. Jalen Carter is the guy that entire defense is designed around, and game planned for on the whiteboard, as was said tonight. I’ll take him.

An, I see. No, I don’t see Turner’s speeding infraction (which was indeed bad given his speed relative to the limit) or ball-punching infraction as being analogous to letting your friend die on the side of the road in the middle of the night while you evade police.
Maybe if Darnell Wright was as dialed in as the coaches wanted, spitting on someone would be a step up for him. Jalen Carter is the guy that entire defense is designed around, and game planned for on the whiteboard, as was said tonight. I’ll take him.
Yes, Jalen Carter is really good at football. The Bears may well be on the losing end of betting against him due to character at the end of the day, but I won’t blame them for it. I am not saying what Carter did is as bad, but by way of example, Miles Bridges could be as good as Michael Jordan and I’d never want him on my team, given his character issues. If you merely root for laundry, you might feel differently, but at some point I think character does matter.
Re: Carter, though, I want to be clear that spitting on Prescott (particularly when it looks to have been a dumb decision to engage in retaliatory spiting lol) is not some sort of character deal-breaker for me. He just did a dumb thing tonight.

Didn’t that guy murder a bunch of people? lol wut.
Didn't DeShaun Watson get paid $230 million after, like, 20 women accused him of sexual assault? Where are the priorities?
Does anyone even remember when Bobby Portis fractured his teammate’s skull out of spite and jealousy? Nobody cares about this ****. Spitting is gross, but come on now. Aaron Hernandez? LOL

I wasn't comparing Aaron Hernandez to Jalen Carter. I was responding to fleet's apparent position that character does not matter and that talent does. There are obviously instances where a player's character can be bad enough that it renders the talent meaningless.
And in any event, if you want to critique Carter's character, it's not yesterday's spitting incident you cite (and I said as much if you'd bother to read the thread), it's the fact that he left two people to die after a street racing accident because he was too scared of being found out by the cops.

Well at least it doesn't involve spitting on your opponent.

Some good news on the injury front- Jaylon is starting to practice, and Monongai is back at practice as well. But TJ Edwards is out with a hammy, and Roschon is still out with the foot injury.

Bears fans: told you so!
After a 24 year old has an all pro season, wins the Super Bowl, and will likely have a hall of fame career, and their team is 5-12. Its almost too funny.
Keep patting yourself on the back while watching losing football. This team has plenty of arrests by the way. And you know, an assistant coach that was investigated by the FBI and let go under the shadiest of circumstances. No fans of this team get to be morally superior. You shouldn’t be a fan of this team if that matters to you. 11th in the league in arrests since 2000, higher than the eagles.
And the eagles won the game, and it came out later Dak also spit in his direction, clearly instigating.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah, like being sentenced to life in prison
If he got off those charges, he's playing in the NFL.
Mind you, I think character is important. Athletes are role models. Whether or not you think they should be, they simply are. It's culturally important to us. Sports franchises don't care though. Most fans don't. I agree with what you say about the guy to the extent I know anything about him (I don't really, I think spitting on people is reprehensible though).
