Note how the expiring contracts were used to trade for a horrible contract. We can move Asik @ $15m, just for a contract some other team doesn't want.

Getting a Joe Johnson level contract is reckless...yet still, the FO would be doing what most have been clamoring for years...rolling the dice to put us over the top/paying the tax. You add Joe Johnson and health to the past 2 teams, we're probably winning at least one title.

Doesn't work out in a few years, you move him yourself.

impossible fairy tale. we would have had to skip signing both boozer and one of either korver/watson/brewer in order to sign johnson. or trade them for him later. would that have helped us get by miami in the 2011 ECF? probably not, especially considering how terrible johnson's shooting was last year (bogans was better, for god's sake). and we still wouldn't have had rose in the 2012 playoffs and right now we'd be clamoring for an amnesty

SIAP, 90 pages is a lot to read through, but have we heard the names of any potential replacements for Omer if we don't match?

Or even just bigs we've been interested in in the not-too-distant past who might be feasible?

Thanks in advance.

What's the latest on this? Does anyone know if the Bulls are leaning towards matching this or are they leaning towards letting him walk?

No kidding, Joe Johnson just got traded and it will be hard to trade a C who could help a team out and give them major cap space at the end of the deal... It will be very easy to move Asik IMO

Joe Johnson being traded today puts to bed this notion that Asik contract would be unmovable in the third year or hold no value

its proof that no matter how bad an NBA contract is there is always a sucker out there that will take it off your hands...

its a NO BRAINER NOW.....Match that deal

Although I'm no Joe Johnson fan, Omer Asik is no Joe Johnson.

Teams lining up for a multi-all star SG will not be lining up for a backup role-playing center with a $15 million anchor in year 3 of his contract.

Joe Johnson is an all-star SG. Omer Asik is a backup C with zero offensive ability. You find another young backup big man, get a few good, cheap years out of him, then let him go when his play prices himself out of your range, and refill the spot with the next young, affordable role playing backup. Rinse and repeat, ala the New England Patriots/Pittsburgh Steelers.

People are really underestimating the value of a large expiring contract

Hilarious that Matt Forte can't get $20M guaranteed but yet Asik gets $25M. On a side note, being 7'2" would suck LOL. At least Forte can buy normal clothes, drive normal cars, and doesn't need a house with 20' ceilings.

Expiring contracts get you players other teams don't want to pay anymore, like Joe Johnson

I think Thibs is most comfortable with Taj and Asik when the Bulls are down in the 4th. When the game is about stops.

When the Bulls close the gap and the game is close at the end, Noah goes back in because he's such a good passer. Really opens up the floor for Derrick.

I don't think Noah sits because of Boozer, I think Noah sits because Taj and Asik are that good defensively.

And I think Noah comes back in because he is that good offensively. Same with Boozer on occasion.

It's strictly situationally. It's really okay that Asik is a monster on defense. It's not a slight on Noah.

I want to take this opportunity to make a toast:
Here's to hoping Kareem is making Jo a beast down low this summer.

If that guy could consistently hit a hook shot and maybe expand to midrange a bit...he would have to be, far and away, the most versatile offensive center in the league. Very exciting idea.

Carry on.

Not me. I prefer keeping the better player in Taj.

Interesting to hear KC mention dealing Noah during the moratorium as an option

This is my fear, if we make the mistake of matching Asik's offer.

I posted several pages back that choosing Asik means goodbye to Taj & probably Noah. There is no way in hell that Omer Asik is better than or more valuable to our success than Noah and Taj.

Bad leverage position, as other teams know the Asik offer is out there, and about to crunch us.

From what KC said--is the sign-and-trade still a possibility?
