If they can’t give MVP to Saquon this season, they should change the name to reflect that it’s exclusively a QB award. End the farce.

it's not like allen and jackson didn't have amazing seasons as well

and btw, henry had a better regular season than barkley. more TDs, edge in YPC, not as good an O-line to run behind, significantly better PFF grade...

FWIW Christian McCaffrey had 2023 yards and 21 TDs last season, 49ers had the #2 offense and finished 12-5 and he only got 147 votes for MVP (Jackson won with 493 votes). McCaffery did win Offensive Player of the Year with 222 votes (Jackson finished 4th with 32 votes). That kind of tells you were voters are.

Says its unlikely we hire Rizzi and we will probably retain Hightower. Kinda disappointed in that because I think the Saints ST has been one of the best in the league and Rizzi didn't do too bad as a HC either. But, ending up with Hightower isn't a bad thing

barkley could have broken the TD records if Hurts didn't steal all his scores with the tush push.

yeah...he should've been MVP last season but a RB or anyone else is never getting MVP again

obviously still a lot of time to go for this outlook to change, but stuff like this is fortifying my feeling that we should be pretty aggressive about trying to trade down into the 20s to pick up another day 2 pick. (maybe play around with moving up from 74, too? although the relative lack of consensus at this point in the process makes me optimistic someone good will fall to that pick)

just don't think the difference between the linemen available at 10 and 25 will be that significant, and it'll still give us a chance to get someone we really like rather than hoping our favorite late-first iOL/DE/DT falls to 39. entirely possible that some sort of consensus emerges in the next couple of months to change my mind, tho

he's had bigger linemen in general in detroit the past 2 years, but nobody quite that heavy - i could see a certain weight threshold being a negative for a guy who relies on linemen being mobile in the run game

Image

(this chart is also why i think we might not go after drew dalman in free agency, since he'd be shorter and lighter than anyone johnson started in detroit, even if he's not super undersized or anything.)

If Bears want a speedy twitchy WR, Tez Johnson is having a very good practice session, making the CBs look silly. He very small (~165 lbs) and mocked around pick #90
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

- “The Bears, prior to (president/CEO) Kevin Warren, were really a mom-and-pop shop,” Smith said on the Bernstein & Harris Show on Tuesday afternoon. “The same people had been there for 100 years. They got comfortable in the way they did business, and it worked for them, but it was difficult for them to keep up with how things around the league were working.

“Kevin was able to kind of explain to them and show them how a building is structured, how a front office is structured, what it takes to attract top talent, both financially but more importantly otherwise.

“’If we want the best, we better act like the best,’ and present a case that shows it’s more than words – that there’s actually going to be action.

“This was the best process I’ve seen in a heck of a long time from any team in the National Football League.”

Smith gave huge props to the Warren operation even prior to the below acknowledgment of Poles’ role. Calls them ‘the new Bears”. We may look at this past season as a blessing in disguise which woke up this front office to total change as a continuation of Warren’s hire in the first place. Granted, the assistant coaches they hired were undoubtedly at the behest of BJ. We can only hope they continue to be self aware.

"I think the offensive line is certainly an area that we need to get better play from going forward," Johnson said during his introductory press conference last Wednesday. “Something that Ryan and I have already talked about. We will develop a plan of attack for how to get that done, but I'm looking forward to getting an excellent offensive line coach into the building to help develop the young talent that we already have on the roster. We will certainly talk about acquiring talent to bolster that unit as well. I was certainly blessed the last few years with the men that I worked with, and that was something I would love to replicate here as well."

If the Bears signed Smith, went pass rusher in the first round, and find a nice IOL @ 39, that second SRP could comfortably be BPA without regard to position. Including running back.

Smaller. Not sure I believe these below reports. But I think he can go in the third round maybe if he runs a 4.3. Is he 165lbs? Not sure about that either

honestly feeling real good about how this draft is shaping up in the trenches. i could probably go 30 deep at this point on guys i'd be happy coming away with in the first 2 rounds. in fact i absolutely can:

ol: campbell, membou, booker, zabel, milum, connerly, mbow, banks, simmons, jackson, ersery, savaiinea, rivers
dt: graham, harmon, grant, nolen, sanders, collins, tyleik williams, norman-lott
edge: pearce, green, stewart, umanmielen, ezeiruaku, scourton, mykel williams, ivey, sawyer, tuimoloau

i will say, i'm not super in love with the idea of taking any of the EDGE guys at 10. none of em are leaning out to me as a slam-dunk guy, and i don't think we'd draft the guys who i think are most defensible taking at 10 (pearce and green)

Man, I just hope this all works out. As has been previously noted, this organization has made a mess of a lot of things. I’ve got some faith that things will be different this time, primarily because of my belief in Poles. But with the Bears, you just never know. But this is all very encouraging to say the least.
