If he is serious about winning, it is between Houston and Chicago. Then hopefully our FO convinced him of the obvious:
- East vs. West
- Houston on offense would look impressive but each of the big three needs the ball in their hand and iso situations. Heat's big 3 looked better as LeBron was glad to give away the ball / be a passer and Bosh turned into a catch and shooter, which Howard cannot be. A simple video demo could demonstrate it, and I am hoping Thibs had this in his bag. On defense, Harden and Melo are complimentary in sucking. They would need to add a Gibson type defender to help Howard protect the rim from all the matador defense the wing duo would do
- Chicago's line-up looks like it was designed for Melo to be added to it. On offense, only Melo and Rose would need the ball and Rose would be more than happy to play off the ball some. Melo brings more 3pt shooting, ball handling, inside outside scoring and would gain in efficiency with Rose's impact, Noah's passing, and the spacing provided by McDermott and (hopefully) Mirotic. Butler, Rose, Noah, are also great in transition, which complements Melo's lack of transition game well. In defense, plain and simple, it starts with Thibs. Then Butler is taking the best wing AND Gibson and Noah provide rim protection and rebounding. Add to that the fact that the "team", as coached by Thibs, always beats the sum of its individual talents, well that looks mind blowing and a clear title contender
It seems obvious, you just have to be smart about it
