I just want to see him play 2 series with the starters.

and walk off the field smiling without getting HIT

If they risk his health in this 3rd meaningless dress rehersal I'll lose my mind.
There are guys out there looking to make that 1 big hit to make an NFL roster and not have to go back to some lame desk job.

This is not your typical back up, this is the hope and savior of a LONG suffering NFL charter franchise.
Aaron Rodgers is leaving our division after this season.
The Road is wide open for a decade of glory.

The clock started when we drafted him. Every hit he takes out there counts.

No, he's not ready yet, Jimmy G. is the safe choice, and once you pull him, it would be hard to go back. I imagine it's the same in the other cities like Jville and Boston, with Lawrence and Mac Jones.

The difference is JG has already proven he could lead SF to a superbowl and nearly won it, granted it was obviously the defense carrying the bulk of the load but still.

Andy Dalton has had zero success in Chicago and zero playoff success in his entire career. There's only 1 reason you'd play Dalton over Fields: you feel like it's better for his development to watch from the sidelines. There are no other viable reasons, if the reason is because you promised Dalton he'd start or you're worried Fields will get killed behind the O line then you're an awful franchise/gm/coaching staff.

I think both Fields and Lance should start, but it makes much more sense for the 49ers to stick with JG because he has had success and it would probably only boost his trade value if they decide to move on, Lance is also more raw and inexperienced than fields.

Very true- Jimmy G is better than Dalton, and Fields is more pro ready than Lance.

To comment on Kyle Brandt's comment--Heck I'd like to see ANYONE hand the ball off to Montgomery or throw to Robinson.
Monty has 1 carry for 3 yards all preseason. Robinson has not played as far as I know.

It isn't a Fields thing--its even worse than that. Not that preseason means anything--but you would think you would have those guys get at least a few snaps per game--basically that hasn't even happened for Dalton.

Dalton has the same experience with Bears as Fields does--so it isn't like there is any chemistry.

But, since the O Line is still utter trash--possibly worse than last year--and it seems Nagy is back calling plays-none of it matters a bit.

Nagy just has to go and we need to invest in the freaking line--in more than future via draft. We dumped a well graded (PFF) OT and we will be worse for it.

I'm in the minority here but I'm not as worried about our personnel on the O-line. I've seen moments where they can run block and pass block just fine. I'm more concerned about Nagy's play calling.

I know I've picked on this in the past but it really has been a problem. His calls and formations are too predictable. If the defense knows whats coming its easy to pin your ears back as a defender and its difficult for any Oline to block in that situation. Defenses are not confused when Nagy is calling the plays. He might throw a gimmick or gadget play at you here and there but how often do those work? When Lazor started calling plays last season we finally started to see defenses play back on their heels a bit. We could actually run the ball and pass block.

It will be interesting to see if Nagy has made the proper adjustments.

fields looks good. took what he got, no mistakes. capitalized on that spectacular throw at the end of the first half.

Edit: that being said, this team (albeit in preseason) just doesn't give you a good feeling. I think Nagy and Pace should have gone already, maybe thats what it will take. a cleaning house of all executives/coaching staff. Need an AKME style cleaning to get the stench off. Hope I am wrong...

Nice play by both Fields and the receiver on that TD. But as someone else mentioned, this team doesn't really give off a vibe like it's going to be anything other than mediocre. The fact that they can't run the ball is worrisome. They were badly outgained in the half, and that's playing against Matt Barkley and someone even less talented. The offense only scored 1 TD, and that's not good. I don't see much better than a .500 season coming, if that. Of course this is still just preseason, and sometimes teams gel as the year goes on, so hopefully that will be the case here.

I've been and continue to be in the camp that is OK with Fields sitting for a bit.

In the same way that most people say "It doesn't matter when he plays, if he's good, he's good.", then if we wait to play him for a few games, then he still will be good...if he's good.

They say you want to surround your rookie QB with a great line, good weapons and a great coach to teach him.

The Bears might have the PERFECT concoction to ruin a young QB, if you believe that they can be ruined by playing them to early.

Let Dalton get creamed for a few weeks...

Is it me or should they trade Dalton, get some draft assets, send out Foles to get murdered in week 1 and then start Fields.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the Bears running game just yet until we have David Montgomery back. The rest of the back ups are back ups for a reason.

We still haven’t seen Fields with Arob and Mooney. Our 3 best offensive weapons have yet to be paired with fields. It’s promising because Fields has been working with back ups WR, RBs and TEs all pre season. Interested in seeing him throw to players that are more prone to create separation, he can make all the throws.

Yeah, the O line is going to take a few games into the season to help. It’s perfect for JF to sit for a few games in order to absorb more IQ pts from Foles while letting AD get cream by the NFL DEs.

Foles looks great, hopefully he can get traded to a team. 6th rounder, here we come!

Fields would learn more playing that watching. The great ones figure it out despite what they don’t have.

Also pre season with barely any starters playing… overreactions abound.
