This is set up more like a Seattle rookie Russell Wilson situation rather than the Chiefs with Mahomes rookie season. We owe Dalton nothing, Smith was a respected QB with KC and Fields is ready day one whereas Mahomes needed seasoning.
Let Justin blow out Dalton in training camp and roll.

The athletic mentioned off the field issues with Jenkins, anyone know what that’s about?
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?

I read the article on him and the only stuff I learned is that he just recently started playing with his nasty streak.
Could be a different article?

Yeah the dude is a straight up mauler with a nasty streak. The kind of guy you love on your team and hate to play against.

andy dalton is at least a longtime solid, veteran pro. russell wilson did not have to overcome that to start as a rookie
if justin fields is the next cam newton, who i have heard him compared to, he is good enough to beat out dalton in camp just on sheer talent. but newton was taken #1 overall

Dane Brugler’s analysis: In my final mock draft, I paired Jenkins with the Bears at No. 20. Chicago was able to trade up in the second round to get him. A few off-field questions dropped him further than what the talent says, but he is a bully on the field who will be a plug-and-play starter at right tackle for the Bears.

Brugler said last night there was injury issues but didn't specify. No medicals this year which makes things even crazier.

He might bust, but there is no doubt in my mind that this was the right move considering the options. I haven’t been this excited about the Bears since Devin Hester was returning kicks back on a regular basis.

I'd rather start Dalton, even if Fields appears ready. For nothing else than putting a chip on his shoulder and making him take the game seriously and getting into a mindset that he needs to improve, and letting him know it could all disappear
at any time.
If Dalton somehow happens to succeed, Fields will have to work even harder. The more I think about it, I like this approach with all rookies. Make them all work hard to earn a spot, and get them in the right mindset. (If you outperform a vet in your minutes within a real game, you get to play more minutes. If someone else out performs you they play).
Minutes should not be expected or given, only earned.
Fields will get his chance. He does not have to start day one. The Bears have time to develop this young kid properly. They are not going to win a Superbowl this year, and Justin is just 22.

I wasn't saying he was going to be given the slot tho, he's going to outplay Dalton just like Russ outplayed Flynn.

Re: Bears 2019/20; George McCaskey is on the clock
Even if he out performs Dalton in training camp, just put a early chip on his shoulder where he can say, (I'm better than this guy, and I'm going to prove it).
The worst scenario would be start him, drop a few games and have the media questioning his abilities before he even got things down.
It would be better to have him sit a few games, lower expectations and if they lose Fields then gets to come in as a savior. Or even after a few games are won, is forced to play after a injury.
I see it like this:
1. If Dolton wins, just ride the flow.
2. If Dolton wins a few games and gets injured, there is a excuse to go back to him if Fields fails with no egos hurt.
3. If we start Fields, and switch to Dolton mid-season, This is a absolute disaster. And may ruin the ego of the new prospect.
3. If Dolton sucks, and drops games and gets replaced by Fields and the team still sucks. There is still hope for development.
4. Dolton starts and wins, but has has to sit. Fields comes in takes the role and the team does not miss a beat.
5. Is the most unlikely, but would be great. Fields starts from day one, and wins two thirds of his games leaving no doubt on Chicago Quarterback issues.
Out of the 5 possible scenario's only one out of the five could potentially ruin the new quarterback for good. And that is option #3. It would be a traditional Chicago Bear like move.
---------------------------------------------
Edit: Since 1993 The Chicago Bears have had 32 starting quarterbacks. I was born over 20 years earlier, and it has been the same my entire life.
Since 1993, the Packers have only had six.

Vikes get Mond.
Texans take Mills to replace Watson. Will be interesting if he sits games for his lawsuits.

Fields and Jenkins with the two picks? Hells effin Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't look know but the Bears are quietly putting together a quality OL. Mustipher/Daniels/Whitehair/Jenkins is looking like a solid foundation with Ifedl/Bars as swing.
No more excuses Nagy. You got the QB you wanted and Pace is fixing the OL.

So far... The picks are growing on me. No way do I trust Pace, but he is the GM. Could have made worse moves. His career will surely die by these moves if they dont work out.
Field's athleticism will give you ability for some remarkable plays even if he is not a great traditional QB. He seems like someone who will sacrifice his body to win a game, keep plays alive, and throw an accurate deep ball. That alone can likely make him an average QB as the floor. My biggest gripe with this pick is that he was not able to beat out Fromm at Georgia. Lets hope there was significant growth and maturation that was not present before.
O-line pick was needed. Really hoping Jenkins doesnt pull a Kevin white with his previous injury issues. Kevin White was a monumental bust. You would have to assume they did their due diligence with his medical records. If he has serious medical issues, both Pace and Phillips should be fired immediately.

Who cares if he was not able to beat out some guy when he was a freshman or not? He outplayed the consensus #1 overall pick in the draft in the national championship game this year- that's enough for me.
