Bulls trade Alex Caruso to OKC for Josh Giddey

Where are the draft assets?
AC is a back to back All-NBA Defense, where is the rest of the complensation especially with Giddey's value being so low with his off the court situation last season.

We have the most incompetent management in the NBA besides the **** show in Detroit.

I have to admit its a little curious seeing a board opposed to trading this guy at multiple trade deadlines when he had far superior value, frustrated that his value is now lower when by every objective way a GM would look at it, it absolutely should be lower. This was all 100% predictable.

In an oddity for me, my grade on this transaction if you ignore letting AC's value rot on the vine for two years first, is a B+ in real time. Its better than I thought we'd get. Not by a lot. But better. So, kudos to AK? Feels wrong saying that since on the whole he still blew the AC situation.

Bulls fans were pissed they didn't take a deal for two 2nd rounds picks and are mad at this trade....

What is GIddey good at? He's pretty tall (with Jimmy G arms) and I guess is a decent ball handler/passing vision for the size? And I guess being his age 22 season is a plus? I'll try and find ways to convince myself there is upside here as I'm a glutton for punishment from this franchise.

Pretty elite rebounder for his position. For his career he averages 9 per 36. Also really nice vision. I would say that for a team that refuses to add size, he allows us to play bigger even if he's a lackluster defender.

Caruso was my favorite player on this squad. But he in no way makes any sense for this team moving forward, and for him, I’m happy he’ll be on a contender where his skill set will have a really good impact. It also gets the Bulls away from a risky extension for him (which I would have done absent a trade).

I like that this says AK may be beginning to “get it” and that the end of season press conference comments were not just fluff.

Trading Caruso for a 21 year-old 6’ 8’’ great passer with All-Star potential but potentially serious shooting woes is exactly what the Bulls should be pursuing right now. If he didn’t have the shooting woes, you wouldn’t get him for Caruso.

I still can’t for the life of me believe you couldn’t have gotten *some* draft compensation along with him.

Me or the tweet? What exactly did he do? Dated a girl 2 to 4 years younger than him? How big is the actual age gap? I don't know a lot about the situation and Google isn't clear on the girl's current age.

Giddey was 19, and the girl he met was 16-17 with a fake ID in a club where you had to be +18 to enter. We have no idea where the relationship went. He was proven innocent, and we have scums calling him a pedo/groomer. Garbage.

Oh, ok. If what you're saying is true, then yeah, that doesn't really seem like nearly as big of a deal as it was made out to be. Certainly not to the point where he should be jailed or labeled a pedo.

Not understanding the uproar with this move, but also not surprised.

For one, the FO made a move, when many wanted them too and didn't think would happen.

Second, people have been begging to trade Caruso because he didn't fit the timeline.

Third, AC was on the last year of his deal correct? Wasn't going to get anything super crazy.

Fourth, we got a productive player from the trade, and replacement for lonzo. Coby can be a pure SG, which again, many wanted.

Am I missing something?

Actually, I take back what I said about this being a meh trade. I said we should try to nab giddey cuz I like how his skills fit the team. I just dont believe that his low value (after this season) and AC's expiring contract status cancel each other out to the point where we couldn't get a pick added to the deal.

Literally everything I have read so far has crowned OKC the champs and suggested the Bulls be relegated.

So basically it went exactly how I thought the eventual Caruso trade would go.

Makes me think they may well waive Lonzo or seek medical retirement.

envisioning the worst possible offseason in the wake of this move:

-waive and stretch lonzo instead of just taking the lump this year
-re-sign derozan to a 3 year, $90 million deal
-re-sign patrick williams to a 4 year, $100 million deal
-salary dump lavine to facilitate the above deals; get no picks or meaningful assets back in return
-draft kyle filipowski as a "pro ready rotation big who can space the floor"

Scary how realistic this is.

At this rate, you can assume all of these things will happen.

Caruso is a polished player, you know what you are getting. Giddey has some skills but is a total work in progress and at least a draft pick should be included with the offer as a sort of security in the case that he doesn't reach his potential. That shouldn't be much to ask for from OKC. Our front office just isn't good though. OKC was very happy to upgrade their team and dump the player that doesn't fit.

Also Giddey is coming on year 4 for his rookie contract. Which means he’s up for his second contract after this season. Bulls would retain his Bird’s rights and he will be a RFA though. Let’s hope he can develop into a better player.

Hate to be this guy but i'm pretty positive 21 year old Giddey would go #1 in this years draft. I'm thrilled with this haul. I hope they announce picks later but hey, this is a good young player who we have team control over and who's game theoretically can improve other pieces on our roster with his playmaking. Lets give him the keys, anything has been better than what we've been watching.

That's the most noteworthy downside in my view. We don't really have team control. This is the last year of his deal.
