We got another steal. Bobby has to be like
Lauri/Carter/Portis is a pretty legit frontcourt rotation. I hope we can find a way to keep Bobby around as the third big, as he is pretty good himself and will most likely improve more.

He said even before the draft he's gunning for 6MoY this year. So he knows hes coming off the bench.

+/- doesn't account for who you play with, opponents, and other things. Basically, if some scrub plays the majority of his minutes with LeBron James and James Harden, his +/- will be inflated. Or if a great player always plays with trash, his +/- will be misleading.
RPM still needs context like every other stat. You wouldn't be overly concerned that a rookie has a disappointing RPM, because he's a rookie and a larger sample will give you a better idea. For instance, Giannis' rookie season RPM is -1.14, which really isn't bad considering he was a project coming in. Or if a player is simply being used incorrectly, then that would give you a clue in addition to a tape study.
But overall it's probably the best one in terms of individual value relative to wins and losses.

Nah. RPM was major, major flaws.
I'd go with Win Shares if you're just picking 1 stat to look at.

BP was never going to start in Chicago with Lauri here.
He'll play the Taj Gibson role.

Which is why we need to trade him, because eventually he will want the big extension and a bigger role which we likely won't be able to provide him. If he continues to improve in the upcoming season, use that as leverage and try to get a 1st rounder for him.
We may want to keep him long term, but players that continue to improve like him want to spread their wings eventually, and I don't see him being any different.

They're having contract talks now I believe if the reports were true from a few weeks ago. Not sure the Bulls will get much value right now, one reason why I hope they get an extension done. If it's team friendly and he's not knocking out teammates he'll likely bring back a first like you mentioned.
I really like the idea of a rotation of Lauri/WCJ/Portis.

Didn’t Bobby mention he wants to be 6th man? Granted it was on Twitter but that seemed genuine as a guy accepting what he is.

This upcoming season, correct - he did say something along those lines. But he is 23 years old, and say he does improve and become the 6th man of the year, with his pending free agency, do you think he will want to remain a 6th man the remainder of the career, or jump at the first opportunity to have a starting role and a bigger contract?
And I'm not saying it as a knock, he SHOULD want a bigger role, and a big contract, because quite frankly he deserves it because he has improved almost yearly, and if he makes another step teams will be knocking on our doors to acquire him. The only hope is that Carter and Lauri proves with their play that losing Bobby won't be such a significant lose.

Jinkies! If Bobby takes another step, we might as well keep him. I don’t see many people at a Rich Man’s Bobby Portis level in next year’s free agency, and he’s incredibly young. Another step would make Bobby core worthy. A three headed dragon of stretch bigs this talented, especially if they continue to improve, is worth keeping. Trade away dead weight (Felicio, Asik), or vastly overpaid one trick ponies if you have to.

He has a high bbiq for his age, just another reason why he and Lauri will play great together. So many times last season i saw Lauri make the right basketball play only to see his teammates eff things up.

Here is the problem though, if he does take another step, say that he is happy with the Bulls and that he embraces the 6th man role (unlikely but for arguments sake), he will sure as hell demand starting player money, and as a team would that be the wisest decision to pay 15 million plus for a bench player?
Let's see how well those 3 play this season, and we shall see how things pan out, but I see Bobby being traded before seasons end unless we somehow are in the playoff hunt late in the season.

I would be a lot more than just okay getting that from a 19 year old rookie.... Lauri put up 15.2ppg, 7.5 rebounds, 0.6 blocks & 36% from 3.

I'm not down with trading Bobby for just any 1st round pick that could easily be a bust. That's aiming extremely low. If we are trading I want young talented player back or a lottery pick. He's not like Mirotic where he doesn't really fit our window.

His trade value will be heavily dependent on how he performs this season.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr - The Block Panther Edition
I loved that "Hakeem" move he had in the game. So rare for a 19 year to be able to do that.
It's a little crazy how much early hype this guy has now. I'm not even talking about our own fan base. The media is really gushing about him. Hopefully he doesn't let it get to his head and he keeps doing what he's doing.

I like him a little better with every game. So solid physically. Great fundamentals. Great attitude. Nice variety of post moves. Can get off shots with either hand. I know it's only summer league but his game has such a level of maturity for a 19 year old kid. He is going to be a special player.

His post moves, and foot work is rare for the modern big man, period.
If his head gets any bigger, then we'll just need to call him Bobble-head Carter.

I would expect him to be better than last season. No reason he shouldn't be able to improve on it.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr - The Block Panther Edition
not sure where to put it, but it seemed like a place ok to me:
We make the POs on the back of the Young guys who start and face the 76ers. They put out Fultz, Reddick, Covington, Simmons and Embid. How do we defend this? Lauri/Carter against Simmons? Sub out?
