thats farfetched already right there

then you have to get Love and Melo and probably Derrick Rose too to all take less money

we're reaching low single digit percent chance of this happening now

Love and Melo have both listed the Bulls on their very short list of teams they would be interested in playing for this year, and both had the Bulls on the short list in the past too.

Not to mention one of the two stars being there would more than likely make it even more enticing for them to sign with the Bulls.

I'm sure guys like Love and Melo dont want to watch Lebron parade around and win more titles. Especially Melo. Nothing would do more for there legacy than being able to whoop Lebrons ass multiple times in Lebrons prime and add a couple rings to their resume.

this is all very Bulls-biased, very wishful thinking imo

Obviously isnt a high odds proposition. I was just asking if it was possible to get done under the cap rules.

Most of these things never come to fruition but landing the big 3 in Miami and Boston were farfetched as well and they still went out and shot for the stars to make it happen.

i guarantee Gibson is not involved in trade talks for Love. Bulls would rather give up picks Butler, Mirotic and taking back a contract that runs after next year. Gibson only goes if we go cap space route with Melo.

So the Bulls want to keep Gibson around to play 15 minutes per game backing up Love? I bet Taj will be thrilled.

Plus, can you imagine Gibson and Boozer being traded to NY? Poor Taji Woo would have to split minutes with Carlos again. :(

Gibson will be backing up both love and Noah. Gibson would play 32 minutes a game, Noah 30, and love 34. Smith for insurance. Gibson would also spot start for Noah.

And Gibson would rather be a back up here than a starter in Minnesota.

I think Taj wants to start very badly. He's done being a back up. And it wouldn't be fair to ask him, after all these years backing up Boozer, to now back up Love

Per the Larry Coon CBA FAQ:

In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:

When the trade deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended3, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option or ETO.

Playoff teams can trade players during the playoffs who are not on their playoff roster.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q99

So Minny and Chicago could make a trade today as long as none of the players involved have options or ETO's on their contracts.

Thanks. I know there are always some kind of wacky provisions in place. It's kind of exciting knowing a trade could happen at any time.

Of the top 10 floor units that Gibson played on - for a total of 1289 minutes - only 181 minutes were spent at C (14%) (assuming Boozer was playing PF when the two were together). If Thibs wasn't willing to play Gibson at C with Boozer, why is he going to do it with Love?

Taj has never played more than 28 minutes a game - despite the fact he was clearly better than Boozer last season, and you expect that to go up by nearly 4 minutes per game after acquiring Love? I don't know why it would.

I guarantee your guarantee is worthless.

-------------

Just a rumor but on the score, Gibson/Boozer/Mirotic/Butler and not sure about pick(s) for Love.

Supposedly Bulls in the mix. However this quoting a source. Making an actual offer for Love before knowing about Melo seems odd.

Thats close to 27 million in salary going out - I wonder who we'd be getting back with Love in that proposal.

Call me pessimistic but I don't believe this management can land a superstar...Saying that Im praying for a superstar but I know we will have to live with Mirotic and Stuckey at the end of the day.

Is it? I could see them preferring Love over Melo. Younger, bigger, has a relationship with Rose, and a deal like this would seem to allow you to upgrade at the wing also.

Yes, it is possible, here's a post on how it could work:

It was on sports radio so they may not have felt bound by the salary cap. ;p

dmk08 - You are correct. Bad assumption on my part. Love can't be extended (giggety) now so that's a ton to give up for a rental, Melo would be under contract.

What makes sense for the Bulls is if Kevin Martin is one of the pieces coming back. Love + Martin is pretty close to Gibson + Boozer.

You really think Taj will not go? The Bulls can't keep Taj and Love, it is not smart to do so. Sometimes, you have to let players go, Taj and Butler, will probably not be Bulls next year. Sad, but I think, the Bulls will finally pull something out of there rear. Taj wants to start, and he will get his chance, in another city.

Martin would certainly be my choice - but Minny also has the less than desirable contracts of Chase Budinger or Corey Brewer they could be looking to ship out with Love.

If thats the case I'd look for an either or situation - either cap relief in the form of Boozer (and we take bad contracts), or they keep their bad contracts and we send picks. I don't want to take bad contracts and lose picks though.
