Phil knows, he was ON the last team that won a trophy in NYC.
All educated NBA fans are familiar with the name Willis Reed almost 40 years later because he won in NYC.
No one talks about the '75 Warriors or the '78 Bullets titles or even the Bucks '71 championship with Kareem.
The lure of winning in NYC this is so strong it brought Phil out of retirement.
Melo spent a year brokering a trade there so he could play in the mecca.
If I was Melo and being from the NYC area, that is where I'd want to win.
If I'm a NYC fan this would be like Rose bailing on us - esp after we just signed Phil Jackson to right the ship.
He's crazy if he leaves, money on the table and a pariah in the biggest city in the country.
Bulls/Knicks are big ratings games on TV. Does he really want to spend the afternoon being booed out of NYC?
Couldn't agree more.
It's hard to see him passing up an opportunity to win in NYC & work with one of the greatest minds ever in Phil Jackson.
