wade and lebron would have about 50 points in the paint between the two of them :noway:

While I'm not as confident in GarPax to reel in a Superstar caliber player via trade or free agency, I believe Thibs can get more out of a player on defense. Carlos Boozer flat out didn't try hard on defense or just incapable of being half-way decent on defense, but Love can be much better with Thibs as coach and a DPOY behind him.

sorry dont see it, people think its as easy as selecting the protect the paint option in nba 2k....Thibs might be able to cobble something together for the reg season, but Thibs needs at least a Noah and a Deng or Butler caliber defender to go up against the best Os, which is what the bulls would see in the playoffs

The Thunder would put an ungodly beat down on that team as well

As much as I'd hate to see him go - if we had Love at PF we really don't need Mirotic and so you're right (and others who have pointed it out) that we'd need to trade him for a wing.

I could see Affalo, Mirotic would fit nicely next to Vucevic.

Probably a good move for the Magic and Bulls, of course it would suck if Niko goes on to be a star but its probably the best value we could get in these circumstances.

I assume the Bulls would only make this trade with Love signing a 4 year extension. If so, the resulting team would have a lot of time to put together a winner. Year 1 wouldn't be pretty but the roster should stabilize by year 3.

Assume trade = Taj, Butler, Mirotic, two 2014 picks

Year 1:
Rose
Dunleavey
MLE / Snell
Love / Boozer
Noah
+ biannual and vet mins

Year 2:
Rose
$8M cap signing
2014 MLE
love
Noah
+ biannual, pick and vet mins

Think you mean Love in that second sentence. I am glad as well I just feel we are seen more as leverage right now. We all know BOS has a very nice package of picks to dish out, my guess is Minny wants even more than BOS is putting out right now. I mean if he is truly not "enamored" with BOS's pieces, and this is true:

The Timberwolves reportedly believe they have already fielded better trade offers, including from the Chicago Bulls.

The headline should be something like "Bulls leading contender for Love", not "Timberwolves Not Enamored With Celtics' Potential Offer For Kevin Love"

Yup, could be but that still puts us in leverage status, not front-runner.

Lock up Love now and then extend him at a discount.

Sign Melo on the cheap also.

The headline is from an article written for the ESPNBoston website. Thats why the headline is the way it is.

Fair enough but there is plenty of other media out there. Lets see what they come out with in the next day or so.

I still predict we are nothing but leverage.

I like that we are making bold moves for both Love and Melo though. Whatever else happens at the end of this summer of the Bulls whiff at least we cant say they weren't ballsy.

That isn't what the report says:

The Timberwolves privately maintain they already have fielded better offers from other teams, among them the Chicago Bulls, who can offer draft picks and some combination of Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson along with Carlos Boozer, whose bloated $16.8 million contract expires next summer and represents the kind of cap space rebuilding teams crave.

Man, I don't know.

If you do the Taj/Butler/Boozer/picks deal the FO reportedly offered for Love, you're left with something like this:

Noah/Smith
Love/Mirotic(MLE)
BAE(Pierce?)/MDJ
C.Brewer/Snell
Rose/Hinrich(min)

or this

Noah/Smith
Love/BAE(Brand? Jordan Hill?)
C.Brewer/MDJ
Wing for Mirotic(Affallo? Matthews?)/Snell
Rose/Hinrich(min)

Love is a very, very, very attractive player, and if weren't for the chance of getting Melo, I'd be all in for this. But I have to pose this question to everybody: are any of the below potential Melo rosters enough better than either of the above Love rosters to warrant holding off on Love until after we're sure Melo isn't coming, or even to warrant forgetting about Love and just signing or sign-and-trading for Melo if he wants to come? I say yes for #1 and #2 below, with #3 and #4 being more questionable, but I might still even take #3 if we could get the right vet mins to come.

Possible potential Melo rosters:

#1 Melo - Boozer/picks S&T Roster:

Noah/Smith
Taj/Mirotic/min
Melo/MDJ
Jimmy/Snell
Rose/Augustin(BAE)/Hinrich

#2 Melo - Taj/MDJ/UNGs/picks S&T Roster(with Boozer amnesty/trade and 10M of space used on Mirotic and other 5M FA first):

Noah/Smith
Mirotic
Melo/
Jimmy/Snell
Rose/Hinrich
+5M FA, mins

#3 Melo - Cap space via getting rid of everything but Noah/Rose/Taj/Jimmy Roster(Melo @ 18.2M):

Noah
Taj
Melo/
Jimmy/
Rose/Hinrich(min)
+RMLE, mins, Mirotic in 2015

#4 Melo - Cap space via getting rid of Taj and keeping everything else Roster(Melo @ 19.8M):

Noah/Smith
Melo/pick
MDJ/pick
Jimmy/Snell
Rose/Hinrich
+RMLE, Mirotic in 2015

I read an article earlier today that said one of the hold-ups with Boston might be because there is a still a lot of bitterness from Minny people (owner Glen Taylor) about the Garnett deal, and apparently Flip Saunders (when hired by Rivers as a consultant in Boston) was not well received by Ainge and his staff.

Well one could infer from those comments that they actually like BOS's offer, but are just concerned that they are becoming a minor league farm team for them.

Well we already made moves to clear as much space as possible with the James/Brewer deals, we know Noah has been doing his thing, and the rest of the moves are TBD in the near future but Ralph and other sources have assured us we are making him top priority.

To be honest, I dont think we can prioritize one guy over the other (Melo/Love). With our luck, and our history of acquiring good players (or lack of history), we just need to get whichever one we can actually get. Melo is a better fit on the court, but if we can get Love first, we have to do it. I know most of us have our hearts set on Melo, as do I, but Love has a bunch of pros as well.

Some things Love brings that Melo does not:

His max contract is cheaper
Hes pretty much the same age as Rose
Keeps us dominant on the glass
Potentially deadly pick and roll with Rose
Lets us trade our most valuable asset (Mirotic)

Return to Chicago Bulls
