If Taj is up for trade, then Melo back to NY solely for the money looks incredibly selfish.

Considering moving Taj would allow us to start Melo at the 4yr max and he is only losing about 2m a year vs NY, a lot of which is made up by tax difference.

Which case he'd really only be losing the 5th guaranteed year which he stands to make in large part down the line regardless.

I don't know if we can say 100% we went all the way. I'm sure it will come out eventually though.

I think Melo takes that Knicks contract. Can't knock him for that. That's guaranteed money. We can talk about winning and all that rubbish, but it always comes down to money. Knicks are desperate. He is all they have. We still have a couple of other routes to go (Love or Mirotic/depth).

I'm not discouraged or even mad. Bulls are still in a good place and everyone in the organization from the players to the coach understands the front office is sincerely trying to do something. It's gonna be okay if Melo takes that deal.

WE can talk about winning until the cows come home but Melo has said it's all about winning. Just have to see if he was telling the truth or not.

Apparently, you keep raking in profits and quoting 'flexibility' while signing carryovers as you keep endlessly trying for those superstars.

Building a very expensive depth team in the 'hope' that it wins doesn't seem to jive with this ownerships method of operation.

Proven winning, or dominance on paper at the least, comes first here, then the money.

Making the team as good as possible with a combination of younger players like McDermott/Mirotic and/or plug-in vets on short-term deals can help you maximize what you have without killing future flexibility just because you're frustrated. There will be other free agents. Committing to the wrong guy just because you're tired of striking out on the right guy won't be the right path.

I think the point is to get off the free agent treadmill all together. Time to seek other ways of building.

If we miss out again this summer its either because :

A. GarPax suck at selling Chicago
B. Chicago is viewed as much less desirable than we all think it should be
C. Both

Maybe the Bulls are talking to Melo and keeping it close to the vest so the media doesn't get hold of it? It's quite possible.

he'll weenie out and go back to NYK saying something EERILY similar to the following; "phil really sold me on his vision and my role in it. I believe he has the vision and strategy to make the NYK's a consistent contender sooner rather than later".

Then he will giggle like a girl throw his arms in the air and run off yelling "and I'm RICH, RICH I SAY.... BWAAAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!"

I'm in no favor of gutting this team but there comes a point that this organization just has to start taking some serious risks. There is really no other option, unless we want to get stuck with playoff disappointment over and over again.

I'm sure he'll rationalize taking the money by saying he believes in Phil's plans to win.

Problem with the Bulls is they never can finish the deal and make that 1 bold big move because Gar and Pax value there johnny try hards to much I mean if the Rockets gm was the bulls gm is there any doubt he would have landed a big name for the bulls at some point?

Two days removed from the high of their well-received pitch to Anthony in Chicago, the Bulls continued to grasp the long odds regarding acquiring Anthony, who also met with Knicks President Phil Jackson and coach Derek Fisher later Thursday in Los Angeles.

A Yahoo Sports report stated Anthony also planned to reach out to Gasol to discuss him joining the Knicks, another in a growing set of signs that Anthony may re-up in New York. Joakim Noah, intimately involved in the Bulls' pitch to Anthony, has told several people he believes Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks.

Why are we sending Noah to recruit Gasol if he loves Taj so much.

He wants to help bring a guy that would diminish Taj to the bench again just like Boozer?

Would think Noah and the Bulls both are finally ready to see what Noah/Taj can do starting fulltime together, and get some scoring in the backcourt.

Perhaps he is going to the backup 4/5?

Gasol would be the bumslayer, and fourth quarter closer. That is the role I see him taking, but we are probably going to strike out with him too.

Oh please. A healthy Bulls team was winning 60 games and on its way to back-to-back ECF. That's hardly basketball hell.
