I am assuming that they will still want to run smaller lineups too make use of virtually the same time of player they acquired in Allen, Miller & Jones.

Irving, Waiters, Miller, Lebron, Love

With Bosh, he wasn't an elite defender, but the guy could still swat a few shots away and at least challenge down low.

Is Love capable of that or prepared to become that type of player?

I know a lot of people will fear that potential offensive output, but those types of line ups won't be able to guard a tree.

If they go with your more traditional line ups by keeping Lebron at the 3 and Love at the 4, this is their only chance if they want to have enough balance to get it done, but it means that 'depth' is reduced because guys like Miller, Allen & Jones are not seeing many minutes at the SF spot should Lebron play the bulk of his minutes there.

They have flaws that can be exposed, especially in their first 1-2 seasons together.

It's going to take a hell of a coach to make this work in Cleveland. It's interesting that there's been very few stories about Blatt or what he might do with this team. Very challenging position he's in, coming into the league and coaching this team.

Another point to consider is the health of their 2-4 players behind Lebron.

Code: Select all

Season    Possible      Varejao      Love      Irving
2011-12      66            25         55         51
2012-13      82            25         18         59
2013-14      82            65         77         71
Total       230           115        150        181

I know we have our injury concerns, but so do they.

Yes they do according to RealGM trade checker. If you use ESPN's, it's not up to date.

Well if that's the case, sign me in.

Not sure I really want to be locked into paying an aging Kevin Martin over $7M per year until he's 34.

He really seems like the type of guy who gets numbers on bad teams and that's about it. Every decent team he was on was in a hurry to get rid of him. And that was when he was in his prime, not as an aging guy on a long deal...

But Kevin Love isn't? Doesn't mean these guys can't go to the right team in a lesser role and have that team with some great coaching take perfect advantage of their particular skill set. Has Kevin Martin ever played for a coach even remotely as good as Thibs? Thibs track record with scoring guards is pretty darn sound. All this waiting for the absolute perfect wing player with no flaws to come along and be made available for none of our good players and have a perfect contract is tiresome.

Wolves thread has a tweet that observes that:

- The Cavs NBA store has Bennett's jersey marked down.
- The Cavs NBA store does not even sell a Wiggins game jersey.
- The Sixers NBA store has Thad Young's jersey marked down.
- The Wolves NBA store is closed until further notice.

Maybe Windhorst was right and Lebron doesn't want to play with Kyrie.

I am not afraid of Cleveland.

If they get Love they lose a future Allstar in Wiggins. Bennett will be decent in the future and could become a 15 PPG scorer. They wouldn't have a lot of quality depth.

Irving/Delladova
Waiters/Miller/Harris
Lebron/Jones
Love/Thompson
Varejao/Thompson/Haywood

This team doesn't scare me. If Rose returns as an elite player I prefer this team:

Rose/Hinrich/Brooks
Butler/Snell
McDermott/Dunleavy
Gasol/Gibson/Mirotic/Bairstow
Noah/Gasol

Rose shuts down Irving, Waiters chucks down shots, Butler locks down LBJ and Gasol/Gibson/Noah looks also good vs Love/Varejao/Thompson.

If Wiggins is traded I would feel really good about our chances vs. Cleveland considering McBuckets would score serious buckets vs. Waiters/Jones/39-year old washed up Allen/Mike Miller.

Lebron is their only great defender and they would get exposed with Irving, Waiters and Love in the starting lineup. Even Varejao isn't a great defender.

Sure they would probably score 105 PPG or more on a good efficiency but their defense would suck and I believe we have the better balance.

I don't think Love will play a lot of Center in Cleveland...or at least not as much as Bosh did. I imagine they'll try to loosely recreate their 66 win starting lineup, but instead of Big Z acting as the stretch big man, it'll be Love.

A big reason why the Heat needed Bosh at center was to account for Wade's limited shooting ability. Although Waiters isn't completely proven as an elite 3 point threat, he ranked pretty well last year (sandwiched between guys like Mo Williams and CP3) so I don't think the floor spacing will be as much of an issue as it was in Miami. Defense will be though

In that case, Jones probably won't get any minutes and I think he knows that

They're not game changers, and the latter is barely even an NBA player. But yes, they have their own concerns as well.

ESPN- Timberwolves engaged in Kevin Love trade talks with only the Cavs, Marc Stein, Brian Windhorst report

He's not coming here y'all. We all know that right?

Well cleveland signed Miller to a decent contract so he has to be somewhat healthy with his contract. Also that team would have barely any centers unless they are looking to grab a bargain bin one out of FA.

I do agree though with the premise that the Cavs swapping Wiggins with Love essentially plays to our strengths in that McBuckets, Dunleavy and Butler will have an easier time on offense with one less perimeter defender to worry about. And we have the bigs to match up with Love defensively and on the boards.

Still though, Wiggins' development could have taken years. Them getting Love, and they are still better in the short run right now.

Hopefully we can still pull off a separate MDJ + filler for Martin deal. My dream for Waiters has died.
