I'm absolutely certain NBA coaches would rather have guys this big going straight up when people are driving at the hoop (whether or not Lauri does this well enough is another discussion).
On a more general level - taking a charge now and then is fine, but when you become
known for it... that means you're out there actively looking for opportunities to fall on your ass. That's known in some circles as flopping.
In fact, I seem to remember Markkanen did experiment with flopp--- I mean, taking charges - early on in his career, but he never got the calls and the coaches probably told him to cut it out.
