I would disagree that mobility is his main tool, He is a pocket passer who can avoid hits, much like Rodgers and he has aged well I would say

It is his edge that makes him elite more than a Rodgers. He is not going to emulate a statue like Tom Brady into his forties with his style. The wall comes quick for most other players. I’ve said earlier, he will always be good. But not worth selling everything at his age for me.

What injuries do you speak of? Russ has played 16 games every year since he entered the NFL, that is the very definition of durability. QBs seem to become better with age, Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Big Ben, Cousins, Stafford all became better after turning 30. Plus there sends to be a trend with QBs playing into their late 30's so on the short side he has 4 years of elite status left and 2 yrs of very good given the trajectory of the fore mentioned QBs

Sorry, I did not know his injury history or follow his career other than superficially, I skimmed a post without my glasses that I thought was about Wilson but it was about Watson. But as he takes his first snap as a Bear he will be 33. As a qb who features mobility as his main tool, that window you speak of is questionable how much compensation it is worth. If it was Watson that would make more sense with the majority of his career in front of him. I am all in on trading up in this draft, or just using a bridge QB until we can draft one. Certainly no selling the farm for a pipedream shortcut.

Given the age of the biggest strength the defense I would say the goal is to acquire a QB that can win you a SB, A young gun is more than likely not to do that....Is there a Mahones in the next few drafts, the odds are against it

Problem is you totally gut the team of assets (even on D) for an older guy that it takes years to come back from that will be at a premium salary in the years to come. You still need a team around the quarterback to win the Superbowl. I’m sure we’ll make the playoffs a few times. Eh.

Y’all be well. Im going to step away from the debate, enjoy RW.

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-wins-by-a-qb-in-there-first-9-seasons

Russ through 9 seasons has more wins than anybody ever. The 4th most yards, 2nd most TDs (one more than Dan Marino), highest QB Rating and highest Comp % and lowest INT% of this entire group.

He's absurdly good. If you're not excited about the prospects of one of the greatest QBs of all time coming here, you've got to re-evaluate why you would feel that way because the man is a machine that wins football games.

the bears are already nearly $25 mil over the cap w/ the weird decision to franchise robinson (could've been a lower cap hit in year 1 w/ a long-term deal). bringing in russ would require a bloodbath of cuts

Extending Fuller and trading or extending Hicks will get you another 15-18M.
Plus extending Arob can get you another 10M or more.

B5W, there are 5-6 cuttable scrubs making 660K at the bottom. Cut them and that gets you another 3.5-4M.

He's gotta sign the tag in order for it to count, they can still extend him up until sometime in June I think.

Giving him an extension can limit the hit this year as well.

How Pace still has his job is beside me. The QB conversation for the Bears is literally debating trading 3-5 1st round picks for 32yo russell wilson. Only because Deshaun Watson, whom Ryan Pace very really failed at drafting in the first place, would cost too much more. And that's our upside scenario.

If privilege in NFL front offices is a real thing (IMO it very much is), then its face can easily be Ryan Pace.

1) pace is heavily incentivized to make a move like this given his perilous job situation. ownership is the problem on this one
2) first rounders are very over-valued in the nfl (unless, of course, a projected franchise QB or two are available and a pick being traded could be #1 overall)
3) steve young played at a high level (including running the ball) through his age 37 season and retired the following season due to concussions. if wilson follows suit, that would give him at LEAST 5 more HOF-caliber years. but could he be elite for even longer or is mobility indeed a major feature of wilson's game?

appears that the ability to scramble is important for wilson. moreover, it appears that teams nowadays excel when their respective QBs excel outside the pocket:

1) Why give Pace the option to choose the next QB is my question? His track history is brutally pathetic.

2) 1st rounders may be overvalued generally speaking. But they're especially overvalued with a bum like Pace's 1st round pick track record. Again, why are we keeping him to make these picks?

3) I think Wilson is a fantastic QB, and honestly would love him on the Bears. But that doesn't take a bum like Ryan Pace to make a significant future draft pick push to get him. There are countless better minds to be in charge of that important decision.

scouting and projection are not an issue with an established QB

it doesn't make any sense to me that a GM would be bad at making first round picks but excellent in the middle rounds, as pace has been. i just take the overall track record. and pace has a good overall track record. but that brings up another issue...why has he always been so willing to trade draft picks when drafting is his only calling card?

3) I think Wilson is a fantastic QB, and honestly would love him on the Bears. But that doesn't take a bum like Ryan Pace to make a significant future draft pick push to get him. There are countless better minds to be in charge of that important decision.

absolutely

i still can't figure out why seattle would trade wilson given that he's not making the kind of fuss watson is
