This is the state of the free agent market that Zach finds himself allegedly at the top of.

Re: Wiretap: Bulls Hope To Re-Sign Zach LaVine At $14M-$16M
I hope Lavine becomes a great player - he has the physical tools - but up to this point he's been pretty bad, and the type of game he has would appear to be poorly suited to THIS team.
I said it previously but I think the best deal for everyone is a short and pricey variety. A 1+1 or a straight 2, maybe a mutual option for a 3rd. If he really is a max type player he should be able to prove it in that period and the bulls aren't in the position of (potentially) having an albatross contract.
Oh yeah, and his health, which still has to be considered not a settled issue
But, Lavine, of course, wants the max he can get - who wouldn't?
I could see both camps agreeing to a shorter term pricey deal so that is what I am going to hope for.

This podcast talk on Zach is bonkers:
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/bulls-talk-podcast-there-realistic-path-jimmy-butler-and-kyrie-irving-team-chicago
I had to turn it off it was so bad. They are talking about offering him 4 years 72 and that next year he's going to want 4 152?
Bruh, what? And Kendell Gill is talking up Zach like he's the next coming of D Wade. Calls him "more talented than Lauri" with "the IT factor".
Great analysis, good luck if you listen. The stuff on Butler was a little better.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

4/72 is an overpay but has the chance to turn into a value contract. He's definitely talented, just turned 22, and will have a full training camp to integrate with the team this year. He came back this season and looked like all he cared about was getting up shots rather than winning.

Zach LaVine, if you're reading this, where is your contract offer from other teams? I'm waiting. Even Raymond Felton got his deal at this point. Where's yours?

I think people are underestimating the situation he had in Minnesota, they weren't exactly a development paradise.

You could say the same thing about Capela, Parker, Smart, Nurkic, Kyle Anderson and many many other restricted free agents. They don’t have offers yet because their clock doesn’t start until offer sheets become official on July 6. That’s why the only RFA that have singed are the ones that have already agreed to stay put.

I hope we re-sign him but if not, I'll be happy to add a top 5 pick

Kings have $17m in cap space? That's 4/68 - I'd be fine with that deal.

Any fan who followed the Baby Bulls era experienced the risks and pains that come with drafting super athletes who have low intelligence on the floor. The skepticism from fans about Zach growing into a contract that pays him 15-18 million per year over 4 years comes from the fact we watched our team drafted Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and Tyrus Thomas. Those players had unlimited ceilings according to all the draft experts, and although those guys really did have super high ceilings, they never realized anything close to it. So, when you guys say, "Let's pay Zach this huge amount of money and hope he turns out to be worth it!" the more experienced fan, the fan who is cognizant of how risky such a strategy actually is, says, "No freakin way!" Because if Zach doesn't improve, or only marginally improves we get stuck with a bad / poor value contract. Again, my contractual concerns are only about the long term. I'm fine with a 1+1 one year overpay, especially if it has a somewhat reasonably priced team option for the second year. In fact, I'll celebrate if we give him 25 million this season if it includes at team option for a 10 - 12 mil second season. But if Zach wants to be a knucklehead about it and force some of the horrible contracts his apologists believe he's entitled to, the FO should force him to suck on the QO or swing a sign-and-trade. You don't pay the 153rd best NBA player 2nd or 3rd option money. Not even if he's Zach freaking Lavine.

This is all part of the Zach apologist narrative which suggests that Zach's not being fully recovered from an ACL injury is actually a reason to pay him big dollars.

It would be nice to sign Zach to a reasonable deal, but like what you mentioned, a Top 5 pick next year would be nice to add to our young core. Next year's draft is loaded with talented wings. I'd take one of RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish, and Nassir Little.

If Kings offer that, we will match in an instant.

Let's pursue a sign and trade. Does Zach for Top 10 protected 1st round draft pick, Buddy Hield, Justin Jackson, Harry Giles + filler like Iman Shumpert and Kosta Koufos work? Can we work De'Aaron Fox into this deal as well? I mean this is Zach Lavine we're talking about... the SG of their dreams.
