Nothing against jeanty but I don’t understand the logic of being willing to use a 1st on backup running back but a not willing to use a 1st (plus a future 1st so I understand not a one for one) for a hall of fame defensive end. DE is our biggest need other than OL and arguably the second most important position other than QB.

I'll be floored if any RB is our 1st round pick. Absolutely flooored.

Free agency is before the draft, so it’s not impossible he could handle the trenches there exclusively and then be able to do an RB, but I’d be pretty surprised.
I wonder what BJ thinks about it.

If the Bears handle their OL business in FA (say Smith and Dalman), I would have no issue with Jeanty at 10.
Even under those conditions I would have a problem if they passed up a premium pass rusher in the FR for a running back in today’s circumstances. There’s just too many good backs out there in this draft to be passing on a true need at an impactful position like pass rusher.

I’m not necessarily for or against. Number one priority should be a complete rebuild of the OL with some high price tag additions. But then our second biggest need is DE and there’s really no other major need other than depth. So if we manage to get OL and DE situated before round one then you can do whatever in the first.
I just don’t get the hype from some on using the pick on a back when you will surely still have more pressing needs. Especially when you can probably get just as of a productive back in round 2 or 3

If we do go rb, i personally prefer Henderson out of Ohio st. I just think he’s better and he has elite explosiveness. The type jphnson loves. And you can probably get him in the second

the 2 things i most want to see this offseason are stevenson losing his starting job and a solid WR3 acquired w/o another dumb trade. but if johnson (CB) or mcmillan (WR) fell to #10 i'd be skeptical poles would take them even though they'd likely be the top prospect left on the board. prolly over 80% poles takes OT or EDGE

is chase young the most likely EDGE acquisition this offseason given that he played for dennis allen last year? hope poles waits till the draft

Are we now the only team in the league that has a "nickel cornerback coach"?

So you're fine going into next season with the same O line?

I think Tyler Scott or Colin Johnson can be a WR3- or at least they should be looked at for that position.

He'd be an excellent pick up, as would several others that we can get in rounds 2 or 3.

He better not be. He was underwhelming his one year here in SF.

Depends on if Allen likes him or would recommend him.

He reminds me of Jonathan Taylor with better pass catching ability

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
A lot of us have defaulted to Trey Smith as the guy we NEED to sign and I don’t think that’s wrong but I think it’s important to weigh the trade offs of signing smith to a record deal which would at least be 22m a year (Geoff Schwartz thinks it’ll be 25m) vs someone who will get 5,10, or even 15m less but not be that far off from Smith talent wise.
For example, if we opt for Will fries or Becton at 18m a year vs Smith at 25m a year, would we be that worse off on the OL. This is obviously dependent on how the rest of the OL is rebuilt but I assume that RG isn’t going to be the only change we make. If we do go with a Will Fries over smith, that gives us probably at least 5m to use to go get a more legit DE.
Rookie LT/Zeitler/Dalman/Smith/Wright
Vs
Rookie LT/Zeitler/Dalman/Fries/Wright (plus hypothetically a DE at 15-25m instead of 10m)
Which is better? I think it depends on who is available to spend that extra money on. If the difference is being able to acquire a player like trey Hendrickson, I think passing on smith for a slightly less RG would be worth it

He was on a one year prove it type deal in NO at $13mil. I would not want to sign him for multiple years at a higher annual hit; he's too much of a question mark.
Would be curious knowing how Poles views this year's crop of obtainable DEs (e.g. M Williams, Pierce, Green, Stewart) in comparison to last years (Verse, Latu, Turner), who all had promising rookie years.
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."
