lmao if they end up trading a future first for him, that would be absurd.

I'd be cool with Trey Lance though. Dude is big, strong and fast. Josh Allen, Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick had a baby and out came Lance.

But these dudes are getting fired. The defense is getting too old to win with a rookie QB/Dalton's garbage arm.

I don’t get it. He’s basically Foles and we already have one of those.

I’m hoping for Trey Lance. But Mac Jones is a Pace type of QB.

so a GM trades up to 2 to draft a QB.
that QB is so bad that the GM turns down his fifth-year extension and trades a fourth-round pick to take on another QB.
that QB is so bad that he can't beat out the guy he was supposed to replace. so the GM signs a third QB who peaked at "can't win a playoff game" and has since had to settle for backup jobs.

why are we trusting this man to build a team?

The moves of a panicked man. Seattle is probably laughing their asses off.

They’d get fired for a losing season.

They’re clinging to their jobs, and the poor fans have to put up with moves that only effect the next 10 months.

Yeah that they're in this situation where they need to make the playoffs or lose their jobs is a sign of bad ownership really.

Should never put a GM in that situation or even a coach really. The GM should already be fired if that's the case.

I don't see this move as reason to give up all hope. What else were they supposed to do? They reportedly were very aggressive in pursuing Wilson, and SEA just refused to trade him. As far as we know, the Texans might well be saying the same about Watson. So with those two options gone, what's Option C? Give up a bunch of assets to move up to take another rookie QB? If that was even possible. Pace already was burned once for doing that, he might well think he's not going to do it again.

The next best option was to get a veteran QB that can win you some games the next year or two, and Dalton may have been the best option out there at this point.

They still need to figure out a future QB, but they probably think that with a veteran behind center they at least can be competitive with the D they have, and possibly compete for a playoff spot again. Not a path to the super bowl, but also not a path to a 4-12 season either.

I honestly would have been ok with them just resigning Trubisky for one year and looking to move up in the draft for a QB (preferably Mac Jones). This move is just pure remediation at its finest, its only a matter of time before Pace is relieved.

Why would you move up for Mac Jones? A lot of scouts don't think he's even a first round pick. Then you spend 2-3 years grooming him, only to find out he's no better than Mitch. Then where are you at?

I think you have to realistic- they just didn't have many good options. But it would be an even worse decision to invest a lot in someone who is not a franchise QB.

I see what you are saying but for me I would rather tear it down and rebuild than be stuck in mediocrity with Dalton at QB. There's just no hope for a team in this direction. I understand Pace probably isn't in a position to start a rebuild but that comes back to our crappy ownership for creating this situation. This is just typical Bears and it won't ever change until ownership changes.

A lot of scouts didn't believe Lamar Jackson should remain a QB and two years later he was the league MVP. I am die-hard Bama fan and I have watched this kid, he is the real deal.

When you have high hopes for landing Watson or Wilson

And you end up with Andy Dalton

It pretty much sums up what it has been like to be a bears fan for the past 30 years smh

I don't think anyone in the organization is thinking this is the long term solution. But given the options, it's not an "F". More like a "C".

And you could be right. But just because Lamar Jackson defied expectations and was basically a 1 in a 100 outcome, doesn't mean Mac Jones will be.

Let's face it, those hopes were never realistic in the first place- the press sort of fed that frenzy but it's quite likely there was never much to it.

I agree. If you're going to sign Dalton, why not just let it ride with Foles and a cheap backup? We're probably not playoff bound with either so might as try to get a good enough draft spot to take a chance on another rookie. Even if we go 5-11 and end up with the 10th pick, that is still a decent play to move up for a QB in the draft. At least better than going 8-8 and trying to grab a QB with the 20th pick.
