Deng's TS% is now .590 on the season. Right back in line with preseason.

Luolz at Batum being a good defender

So glad to beat this player-hating franchise

When was the minute when they loved him? I must have been walking my dog.

There was that one pre-season game were he went 5-7 from the arc. Then this other time his rookie year...ummm...that's all I got.

I'm really annoyed right now. I avoid the scores while I'm at work so I can watch the replay on league pass when I get home, as if I'm watching it live. And my friend just HAD to text me and tell me the outcome. I would have been shocked watching Luol drop 40 on the Blazers and would have really enjoyed watching it...it's not the same now that I know
:(
Anyway, I called it in the game thread that Korver, Taj and Deng would play well...I'm awesome

Not sure what the point of playing him 6 minutes a game is. Either play him over Bogans or don't play him till he's ready.

Kind of what I was thinking. If he's healthy enough to be out there then he needs to get all of Bogans minutes or atleast the vast majority of his 16 minutes. Doesn't make much sense to only play him 6 minutes.

Had to get back to this...

In this game, I believe that Brewer showed flashes of the athleticism that we're expecting from him. But I think that the rest of the team is still getting used to what he can do (maybe Thibs too).

What I keep remembering in the back of my mind is that Brewer is a career 52% shooter, and IMO Thibs is trying to get him back to that, but is still figuring out what plays to put in for him.

At some point, it'll come together, but I think that Thibs was trying to force Brewer into to the rotation, and has now decided to back off and let Brewer and the rest of the team adjust to each other.

But, for me, he showed good mobility on defense, and good lift on offense. So IMO those reports that he's lost a step just aren't true. Maybe he's still got some lingering effects from the injury. But I remember that Thabo had the same type of injury, and it took him a long time to come back.

So, IMO Brewer just needs time.

It's irrational to blame the fanbase.

One game Deng scores 9 points on 2-10 shooting and the next night he scores 40 points, this is a microcosm of Deng. It only makes sense to be hot and cold on him because he's inconsistent.

yeah, seriously - Deng was great, but Noah, Rose, Asik, Gibson and Korver all had very nice contributions. It looked to me like the only guys that were off tonight were Scalabrine and Watson.

Props to Lu for tonight and overall a good defensive effort from the team despite so many fouls.

agree on the defensive effort. Although Aldridge was destroying Joakim - man, I almost felt bad for him  he was playing damn good defense but Aldridge was just in the zone there, couldn't miss. But it was a good solid performance tonight by the whole team, they got out early and really never let Portland back in it.

Its actually the exact opposite of what Deng is like. He rarely has a completely unproductive game, and rarely has a dominant one. All three of these games are utter outliers for him.

He's remarkably consistent in an unspectacular way, plodding along with his 15-19 pts and 6-8 rebounds a game.

If we include the Charlotte pick as well. Otherwise, Portland says no dice.

Deng is shooting 40% from three now @ 3.3 attempts a game.

His ducks are in order, he just has to level it out night to night. He's passing all the benchmarks to make me satisfied.

Asik is quietly becoming one of the better defensive 2nd unit Centers in the league. He is seriously going to have a huge impact on this team if he continues to improve.

Rerisen wrote:Lastly, I want to highlight Thibs coaching style, hands on and active, I think it really helps with a young team like this. He keeps the intensity of the team on the floor up, and puts constant pressure with his yelling to keep them doing the right thing. Especially when our bench is on the same side as we are defending, guys cannot get lazy with him practically bum rushing the floor with his arms outstretched. I don’t know if he can keep it up for 82, but so far, he’s doing a great job.

For any team, but especially one that historically is prone to night-and-day-like lapses, this is a great approach. The defensive intensity was exciting tonight and bodes well for Thibs' tenure. Overall, I'm really impressed with the Coach so far, as much as a distant observer can be.
