If we don't match, we BETTER be bringing back Korver and CJ.

Sign and trade for 8 million a year for three years is better for both asik and us and Houston. Asik gets more actually, Houston gets a balanced deal and we get a pick or big in return.

The Bulls will be elite defensively with or without Asik. I got $15M reasons why too. It's not worth it. There are only but a few centers or players in this league who are worth $15M dollars for one year and Omer Asik isn't one.

In year 3 you amnesty Boozer either way. But before then we also have the option of doing a trade to consolidate parts using either Taj or the Charlotte pick as a sweetener.

The Bulls are going to be paying $56-57M for Rose/Noah/Asik/Butler/Teague/Gibson in 2014-15. That group isn't talented at all and lacks any type of scoring after Rose. Asik is going to be the 2nd highest player on the team and one of the highest salaried players in the league. It is the definition of basketball hell. It's not worth it.

I don't know but, Taj is better than both Asik and Boozer.

if he is the odd man out in this I am going to ticked off.

Kwame Brown and Aaron McKie were 2 expirings that added up to $15M and Lakers traded for Pau Gasol. *shrug*

Zebraca and Sura's 2 expiring deals which added up to $14M or so got Rasheed.

Interesting to note... both teams went on to win championships, and a total of 5 finals appearances after those trades.

Does it make a difference if it's 1 or 2 expiring players? $15M is the equivalent of a max contract... let's say Melo, Bosh, Love, Gay, etc. want out... That's your trade piece.

Easy as pie IMO. Just a matter if Reinsdorf is serious about adding salary to the long-term payroll. This is even better than 5/5/10/11. It leaves you to a 2-year trial and a 1-year expiring.

Screw cap-room. If it's 2015 deadline, the Bobcats still suck, and Asik is playing OK, the bundle of Bobcats/Asik = prime all-star in return.

What team is going to trade you a really good player for a $15M backup center?

You make a constant point of calling him that, but the Houston Rockets don't agree with your terminology. Neither do I but my opinion is worth less than the Rockets.

100% agree.

Morey has geared the contract like this for 2 reason:

1. To have a massive expiring
2. To ensure he makes it as difficlut as possible for us to match.

It would be a silly move and we'd be complaining about matching this deal and having 27 million wrapped up in the centre position.

1.It doesn't go against the salary cap for Houston same as it goes for the Bulls. Rockets wouldn't have to pay him $15M in the last season.

Im not following. Why wouldnt Houston have to pay 15 mil?

The average salary goes against the cap for them.

The Bulls can't match this unless they plan to pay a lot of tax at some point. If they do match and won't pay the tax, this will mean that the team will gut itself in Derrick's prime (again because it is happening now).

Goodbye Omer. Please GarPax, learn from your mistakes. Remember Nocioni.

Both points are valid. He is to us, a backup center. To the Rockets he will be more. Is he worth the same to us as to them?

Does it matter? Houston doesn't think he's worth $15M. They're only doing that to **** the Bulls over and ruin their cap management. Asik here isn't going to be a starter ever.e

Have we learned nothing from Andres Nocioni and the several other horrible contracts given to reserve big men?

Maybe you can trade Boozer at some point and amnesty Asik's last year? I don't know, this sucks.

They'd have to spend that 5 mil+ to justify letting him go, IMO. I can't make out their plan otherwise.

Korver is kind of my mendoza line. If the Bulls let him go (Asik or not) they are giving up on 2012/13. I know Korver isn't that great but for the first few months of the season, he is going to be a lot of the offense.

I can do without Brewer and CJ.

Quick things:
1. Can't work a S&T IIRC once an offer sheet is signed. Am I correct? Would need to talk now for a S&T before FA signings can begin.

2. For the Bulls it'd count as 5,5,15? Houston it counts as 8,8,8 right?

Omer Asik and Rockets agree to deal 3 years 25 million

Post#175 » by Darius Miles Davis » Mon Jul 2, 2012 12:28 am

@LarryCoon: Yes, but cap hit would be different. RT @DribblePasShoot: If Bulls matched, would they have to pay it out in the same structure?

So how does the cap hit work in this case? Do we have to play about 8 per a year as opposed to 5/5/15?

Don't we have to be cheering for a sign that we are going to pay a lot of tax at some point. Some point being any part of Rose's career that we could have a legit shot to win?

I fear letting him go just means more treading below the line and trying to beat teams like OKC and Miami with 10 million less payroll...

Asik is a big part of our success. His defense and size against certain teams is hard to replace. How do you do that? Not many defensive 7 footers with his awareness we can get cheap.

Rose's prime is still far away and the Bulls need to resign Korver so they can have a 3 point threat.
