David Kaplan: There will be meaningful change after this season

Post#161 » by kyrv » Sat Jan 11, 2020 2:09 am

Edit - Okay from a quick perusal I am guessing he passes along things with little regard to their accuracy, like the Kris Bryant signing. So I'm guessing someone "in the building" has the opinion that changed are coming.

I also agree with HS, if it's true it smells like a Doug KEVIN! Collins production.

Meaningful Change= Office is getting remodeled and they're changing the furniture... :nonono:

I get really mad whenever I hear the Rose injury excuse. Almost every team in the league has lost their best or highest paid player due to injury, age, free agency etc...from 2012. It is self pity at the worst.

There are bad GMs and there are people who should not even be GMs. These guys are in the 2nd category...there was this NFL coach who died recently( Rich Kotite)...he should never have been an NFL coach, so was Hoiberg.

Well, yes and no. It isn't that they lost their best player for a season and ruined a shot at a championship. It is that they lost their ROY/MVP forever and ruined the entire championship window. That never happened to LBJ, or Steph Curry, or Wade, etc. etc. etc.

So yeah, it was what it was. But it isn't something every fan base went through.

Would Paxson ever have created a championship roster if he didn’t luck into getting Rose? While you can’t fault this FO for the Rose injury you absolutely can fault them for firing Thibs and pretty much everything that has happened since then. When Hoiberg was fired, GarPax should have left with him.
Yes I can absolutely give them credit for firing Thibs.

Q: Do you think John Paxson, Gar Forman, and Jim Boylen will be back next year? What needs to happen this year for there to be changes? – Tim G.

A: You can’t do a Bulls mailbag without a fire GarPax question. I do think Paxson and Forman will return, though Forman’s title could change. He’s heavily into scouting now and doing so almost exclusively.

As I’ve written previously in this feature, I can see the Bulls adding to the front office next offseason and bringing in a respected, veteran voice. I can also see them adding to their scouting staff. They’ve actually slowly made changes to the front office over time, adding duties for Brian Hagen and Mike Wilhelm, and bringing on Doug Collins as a consultant.

As for Boylen, his relationship with ownership and management remains very strong, and he just signed an extension. So, yes, I expect him to return. The extension is small enough money-wise that if things became disastrous, that could lead to a scenario where the Bulls move off him. But even though it’s not showing up in the standings, the Bulls have played more competitively since Dec. 1. And management is pleased that Boylen is trying to establish a style of play at both ends, which, for now, is manifesting itself in improved defense.

KC throwing some cold water on our happiness. He's been wrong before though.

Laughing out loud at the idea that things haven’t already “become disastrous.”

My guess is the "meaningful change" would be firing Boylen, maybe Gar at most, but Pax would stay. I would be pleasantly surprised if we get a full FO tear down. There's just not enough pressure on the ownership to change things imo

Why wait? Let the heads roll now so the new person can start making changes before the deadline or before they have a chance to draft another player.

We'll see, it's still a long season so they could still end up with the 8th seed.

Gar, Pax, Boylan all fired end of season. What a mf statement that I can only dream of. Overhaul is much needed. I was just telling my brother yesterday during the Pacers game, the roster actually isn’t bad - some of these guys can play, but as a team they suck.

With a clean slate, this would be a highly coveted place for execs and coaches to work. Should be perceived like a blue blood in college sports.

Clean house and give the keys to someone high profile like Masai and tell him to build what he wants from the ground up. Can’t be a first timer. Get it right this time

And this time, they won't just hire someone they know. Michael will apparently go outside the org and interview new voices.

Now I guess we can believe it when we see it, but if true that is absolutely GREAT news.

Why does this change have to wait until the Summer? That right there is the biggest problem. It takes so much negativity for this organization to finally react. And who knows if they will actually do anything. These bums deserve everything that is coming to them. I don’t want to see this team win another game until Reinsdorf actually does something.

That is why this embarrassment needs to continue. Maybe that will finally force their hand.

Rearranging the seats on the Titanic doesn't count as meaningful change. Guessing Gar is re-assigned. Boylen stays for another year. Doug Collins quietly retires and some other stooge- who will be easily over-ruled by Paxson is brought in. Hope to be wrong.

I really don't think Collins is viewed as part of the problem. If anything, he's likely the voice telling Reinsdorf to make a change. No one can say for certain what kind of executive Collins is, but we all at least know he's a smart basketball mind. You can't say that about Gar.

I know it's wrong but I kinda wish the team would have a long losing streak that the national media would have to put them on blast for it. The players, FO, coaches, owners all of them. The organization is a huge mess right now and nobody seems to care.

Garpax screwed up with some lazy coaching hires and some bad luck in the draft (slot selection). Better coaching could’ve saved their job because the talent isn’t as bad as the record we have. Clean house.

The "meaningful change" in the off season will consist only of raising ticket prices in the 100 level.
