I just heard somebody say this of Lonzo and I shook my head and then agreed like Alonzo Mourning on the bench.

"Lonzo is the anti Westbrook"

Lonzo does things that help a team win. He does them instinctively

Above all, his work ethic impresses me. His ability to refine his shot mechanics tells me he can put in the work to improve his driving/finishing & midrange game.

I never imagined prior offseason to see the day where Lonzo Ball wears Bulls uniform and plays really well. We live in that timeline. Guy is just great fit to this team.

He’s been finishing, going iso and popping the mid-range a little more recently. I don’t think these things will ever be his game but I have no doubt he will continue to add in these areas over time. One of the reasons I considered him the “absolutely must have no questions asked” target of last summer was that he’s proven he will bust his ass to expand his game and shore up weaknesses.

He’s humble. Which is kinda funny considering his dad’s personality. And on that note, shout out to Lavar Ball for keeping his pie hole shut and letting Zo’s career just happen.

LaVar built his boys up physically, mentally and from a media standpoint and then he seems to have wonderfully trailed off and let his boys Ball... I have a lot more respect for the man now days than I used to.... And I watched his WWE appearance live as it happened so I can't believe I have any respect for him after that.

It will be interesting to compare his midrange & finishing stats a year from now.

This may also be a side-benefit of the DeRozan addition. From what I can see, players learn as much, if not more, from other players than they do from coaches - at least the players that really work on improving their games.

You kinda also notice it with Zach as well. He tries to imitate Lonzo's risky passes from time to time.

Lonzo doesn't have the quickest first step so improving his midrange will unlock the rest of his half-court game. With a solid mid-range jumper he will have more drives to the basket for easy layups. He will have more opportunity to rack up assists because he isn't just standing at the 3-point line. He will evolve from a 3 n D point guard to a true half-court point guard.

No. Don't make him inefficient.

Eh, I don't really want him to try and turn into a mid range guy. I think he might consider adding a floater but that's really the only development I'd want from him. Maybe a little turnaround game but that is really hard to add, it took an incredibly talented scorer like Zach a few years to add it. He just needs to keep working on his handle that's what will open things up more for him in the halfcourt. He has a functional handle but it's not where he has it on a string like the elite ball handlers.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Lonzo (and Caruso to a lesser extent) is a case study in why boxscore watching doesn't tell anywhere near the entire story. He's only putting up 13/5/5 and a 14 PER, but his actual impact goes well beyond that.

Yeah, just having him add the ability to make uncontested layups would be enough for me.
