Scrubb's ball-skills do not look adequate. I'll pass.

I don't know - I mean for a second round pick, he is a good athlete, very good shooter, and solid ball handler. I think he could be a JR Smith type player (not quite the vertical athlete) before the crazyness and chucking. Do I want him handling the ball as a Harden/dominant ball handler - no. However, he is a fluid athlete with potential smooth shot. Is he good enough at one particular skill to carry that? I'm not sure...

lol who said anything about Harden?

He's not a solid ball handler by NBA standards. If he goes undrafted, bring him in.

I haven’t watched Ball in full game action in a while so I went back to revisit it. Decided to put together a breakdown of his final five NBL games to see how he developed over the season.

I do not understand the LaMelo hype AT ALL. I see:
Positives - Tall PG, handles, some good passing
Negatives - Can't shoot/finish at any level, some terrible passing, NO defense at all, poor situational awareness
And this is a top 3 pick???

Jay Scrubb's motto is "Get it from the Mud"...Sounds like his work ethic is elite..

That's the stuff I like to hear. He's a hard worker and would've gone to Louisville if he didn't bomb his grades in his first few years in High school.. Was 6'2 until a growth spurt his Junior Year...

1. "Some good passing" is almost an insult to his passing ability. He made countless passes which very few NBA players can make (certainly no one on the Bulls) and he's been doing this since he was like 15 or so. He's an insanely talented passer.

2. I get the shooting concerns, but I think it's mostly a matter of shot selection + some work on his form (kind of like with Lonzo, just with more upside off the dribble IMO). He's definitely not a non-shooter though.

3. Finishing and defense are real concerns I share with you, but I'm probably higher than most on his upside in both aspects because of his touch and size/length.

I think most see Lonzo in the league and view LaMelo as having a higher ceiling. He's the most talented of the brothers and probably going to have a better NBA career than Lonzo overall.

The concerns you have are valid with shooting and defense but I think if he goes to the right team he will be fine because he will be tasked with being the face of the franchise and to elevate his play.

I look at the whole picture when calling someone a "great" passer. To me they need to make "great" passes, but more importantly need to consistently make the right passes. I have coached plenty of middle schoolers that can make one amazing hook pass a game, but they have to try 10 of them every game, and I would not call that great even if they can see something amazing once in a while. I realize he can make some special feeds, but the video above showed how careless he can be trying that stuff, and it is going to be harder in the NBA. I kind of see a taller Tre Young that can't shoot or finish as well, and that to me is no bueno.

I don't know a ton about LaMelo and didn't know much about Lonzo at the same age, so this is an honest question: What about LaMelo shows more talent than Lonzo? I have my doubts about intangibles on LaMelo, too, just based on the fact that he was literally dragged around the world by his dad to showcase himself. I have seen nothing to show he would make a team better even if he was more talented than his brother.

LaMelo has always been seen as the true superstar of the family. The most potential and the best shot to be great in the pros.
Lonzo was the one who got the most initial press and with him at UCLA he got to show off his play making skills and defense.

Imagine Brook Lopez vs Robin Lopez. LaMelo is Brook and Lonzo is Robin.

Lonzo had issues with his shot but he can be a triple double on a nightly basis and give you good or better defense.

LaMelo is going to need more refinement than Lonzo due to his natural abilities and tending to rely on them more + he didn't go to college and get coaching to force him into a more set pace and style.

You make it sound like LaMelo is a turnover machine when he really hasn't been at all. He's making the "right" pass most of the time already (at age 18) even when the "right" pass he plays is one most players (at any age) don't even see as a possibility. I think people underrate how much easier his quick decision making and creativity make it for his teammates. And I can live with a bad turnover here and there, especially at this stage of his development.

Listen, I'm not trying to tell you that LaMelo will be a superstar in the NBA because I have my doubts with him as well. But his passing is special and if you at least buy the shooting upside a little bit (which I do), that makes him the best prospect in this class IMO. Every prospect in this draft has at least one major question mark, but few have an ability as special as LaMelo's passing.

I looked up his stats from this year and i can appreciate that he has over a 2:1 A/TO ratio. I just honestly haven't seen anything besides the passing that would make me think he is or will be better than Lonzo, especially since he hasn't seemed to have earned anything like his brother did. LaMelo's stats this season aren't that far from Haliburton's and when you add in the defense and vastly superior shooting from each level, I just have a hard time rating potential higher than all these other things.

I understand that people have viewed him as more talented, but I don't understand why. Even in you post you seem to admit that Lonzo is better without any real argument to why LaMelo is viewed as better at the same age. Is he bigger? Better passer? Better dribbler? He is surely not better at running a team or as successful in harsh environments than Lonzo. I am looking for the side by side comparison that people use to say "Yes, LaMelo is clearly better (or has more potential) than Lonzo".

His strengths cover the biggest Bulls weakness which is playmaking and becoming a potential excellent wing defender guarding 1-4.
Unlike your claim, he is a very good finisher unlike his brother and part of the reason why he had poor shooting was bc his team was trash so he played 1v5.

He has some Magic Johnson in him like Lonzo which is why he would go top 3 in any draft based on potential.
He could be MCW but I wouldnt bet against his ceiling.

This. Anti lamelo fans are basically nitpicking like they did with Young who is already all NBA all star starter level.
Those weaknesses they have are all easily fixable in the NBA which is shooting, defense. But you cannot teach the hardware, bbiq, playmaking which Lamelo has it all.

Whats ya gonna do if your not going to pick Ball? Pick Edwards who is Lavine 2.0 and become the Knicks?
Theres simply no alternative to Ball in this draft I would trade 2021 unprotected if our pick fell to 10 to move up.
