To those that don't believe racism, hate and bigotry didn't play a part in this election, please watch. Van Jones is damn right.

He could have been the change guy with business background, no racist or sexual issues with the anti-establishment tag. That said, the candidate has to fit the narrative of what the voters are looking for.

One thing Trump has shown is... You can be imperfect with lots of issues but you need to be aggressive in fighting it. Hillary was trying to hide and act guilty for her issues but Trump was blasting away if any mud was thrown at him. Maybe the voters will want the more polite candidate next time but the candidate needs to feel the pulse.

I think that white bigots/racists tend to vote republican and minority bigots/racists tend to vote democrat. And I think that has been true for quite a while.

It's mind boggling to me how hard headed both parties are on a few key issues. I feel like if they just compromised and gave the other side something approaching their preference, they could get a lot in return on things that matter more to them. I know, easier said than done, but the fact that it's not even a talking point for either side is mind boggling.

Like, for example:

balanced budget - R
environmental controls - D
healthcare - D
abortion - R
social issues like LGBT rights and policing the police - D
Education - D
Law and order - R

Gun control - I have my own brilliant solution to this that both sides would love but I'm not giving it away for free!

Anyone ever see any politician remotely suggest something like the above?

I wish Trump the best but I do think he will be a royal f-up that voters will come to regret. its simple - Trump's plan for massive tax cuts with drastic increases in spending (the wall / beefing up border patrol) and probable reductions in medicare and social security will cause another large recession. This is the formula that has led to recessions during 3 of the last 4 Republican presidencies (massive increase in spending, cut to safety net, with a large tax cut mixed in). He will repeat it and it will have the same effect the last 2 times we tried it - recession. I just hope that my assets stay safe.

My central concern is for people who will be caught out in the cold b/c of his planned policies. Deportations, banning muslims, etc. It could be an ugly time. Oh and the environment is going to be pretty much screwed beyond repair after the US pulls out of the Paris accords b/c Trump believes the Chinese conspired to make up global warming. But America made its choice. And we'll all pay the price for it. Good luck.

A white-lashing? Really? Please stop.

Let me just say this. I'm not white. This is sickening. It's people like this man who cause racial divide and even spur racism on. Yes, perhaps even more than Trump.

Also, what the hell is a white-lash? Is this guy making up terms? .. I couldn't find it anywhere, never heard it before... and saw that it was just added to the urban dictionary.... today.

Wonderful... more words and phrases to widen racial divide in this country. How is this any better than what Trump said. Both bad. I'll just wait for the "false equivalence" accusations to fly now..

Somebody needs to tell Van Jones that more NON-white people voted for Trump than for McCain OR Romney. Many of the same non white people who voted for the first black President. True. Somebody needs to tell him to stop inciting racism and turning the election into a racial statement. It wasn't. That much is clear to anyone who looks at the numbers.

Nail on the head.

The commentators, in their attempt to normalize this tragedy, will also find ways to discount the bumbling and destructive behavior of the F.B.I., the malign interference of Russian intelligence, the free pass—the hours of uninterrupted, unmediated coverage of his rallies—provided to Trump by cable television, particularly in the early months of his campaign. We will be asked to count on the stability of American institutions, the tendency of even the most radical politicians to rein themselves in when admitted to office. Liberals will be admonished as smug, disconnected from suffering, as if so many Democratic voters were unacquainted with poverty, struggle, and misfortune. There is no reason to believe this palaver. There is no reason to believe that Trump and his band of associates—Chris Christie, Rudolph Giuliani, Mike Pence, and, yes, Paul Ryan—are in any mood to govern as Republicans within the traditional boundaries of decency. Trump was not elected on a platform of decency, fairness, moderation, compromise, and the rule of law; he was elected, in the main, on a platform of resentment. Fascism is not our future—it cannot be; we cannot allow it to be so—but this is surely the way fascism can begin.

Hillary Clinton was a flawed candidate but a resilient, intelligent, and competent leader, who never overcame her image among millions of voters as untrustworthy and entitled. Some of this was the result of her ingrown instinct for suspicion, developed over the years after one bogus “scandal” after another. And yet, somehow, no matter how long and committed her earnest public service, she was less trusted than Trump, a flim-flam man who cheated his customers, investors, and contractors; a hollow man whose countless statements and behavior reflect a human being of dismal qualities—greedy, mendacious, and bigoted. His level of egotism is rarely exhibited outside of a clinical environment.

For eight years, the country has lived with Barack Obama as its President. Too often, we tried to diminish the racism and resentment that bubbled under the cyber-surface. But the information loop had been shattered. On Facebook, articles in the traditional, fact-based press look the same as articles from the conspiratorial alt-right media. Spokesmen for the unspeakable now have access to huge audiences. This was the cauldron, with so much misogynistic language, that helped to demean and destroy Clinton. The alt-right press was the purveyor of constant lies, propaganda, and conspiracy theories that Trump used as the oxygen of his campaign. Steve Bannon, a pivotal figure at Breitbart, was his propagandist and campaign manager.

Of course racists vote. They impact every election. Voter turn out amongst blacks in 2008 and 2012 was significantly more than in 2016. Any idea why? The black population that failed to show up and vote yesterday is partially responsible.

More minorities voted for Donald Trump in 2016 than they did for Romney in 2012 and McCain in 2008. They are partially to blame as well.

Trump won the majority vote amongst women, so they are partially to blame.

The democratic party that conspired against Bernie and influenced the outcome of the primaries alienated the far left Sanders supporters who refused to vote for Hillary. They are partially to blame.

And how about Hillary herself? She has teetered on full corruption for years. How could anybody classify the Clinton Foundation as altruistic? It paid for Chelsea's **** wedding. The God Damn Algerians donated $500,000 and the Foundation accepted it with out even submitting it for permission - which wasn't even legal.

Did millions of toothless, uneducated racist hillbilly white guys show up yesterday that usually don't show up on election day? Absolutely. But if the stars didn't align with black voters not showing up, minorities and women incredulously voting for Trump, and both Hillary and the Democrats profoundly failing -- Trump never wins.

There is so, so much blame to go around. We are all guilty of this.

Please don't quote me with stats and comments suggesting racists have always voted. No ****.

The point isn't about racists having a vote, it's about your president being a bigot who said some terrible ****.

I"ve stayed out of this thread until this post.

Wow.

Damn right? The man is as racist and bigoted as those he accuses of being racist and bigoted. He's the problem, not the solution. White-lash? Really? Since when is it wrong for a race or people to express their view, either through vote, protest or other means? Black Lives Matters is given some sort of holy treatment by the media and, heaven forbid, a group of folks decide to finally make even a little stand and vote their minds and we get white-lash?

The amount of political correctness that this nation has gotten to, and the level of race baiting and innuendo is just sickening. How do these people have voices? Where are the rational thinkers anymore? I mean I get it - this type of crap is intended to get a rise out of folks. It just worked on me. I don't even know how to respond to people any longer. Say the wrong thing to the wrong person and you've instantly got a label attached to you. It's sad.

Before you get too fascinated with the small percentage of non-whites that voted Trump, why don't you look at the Hillary-Trump breakdown:

Black 88% to 8%
Latino 65% to 29%
18-30 54% to 37%

Obama got almost every black vote. They're making a big deal out of the drop, but it's still a landslide difference. Seeing as the KKK openly endorsed Trump and he didn't rebute their endorsement, I find it funny that people have the audacity to say it's not white lashback after 8 years of 'monkey' mockery being thrown Obama's way. I have the (dis)pleasure of traveling a lot, and have seen what racist-redneck America's thoughts are. Sad times for immigrants and blacks, that's all I'll say. But hey, it'll give them a chip on their shoulder.

3rd-gen. Latinos are an odd bunch. They buy the koolaid depending where they live (TX, FL), and they're very religious. Honestly, if I was latino and voting Trump, I'd be ashamed of myself knowing that I just threw my relatives under the bus.

Are you referring to comments beyond this one?

"When Mexico sends it people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people," he said.

I honestly don't see how someone can know what racism means, and call that comment racist. Now, Trump may very well be racist. In fact it's probably a pretty good bet because even real deal racists rarely speak up in public these days. But are there more comments than the relatively tame one I quoted that lead people to call him a racist?

Honest question.

Tulsi Gabbard is the person you should be looking at. I'd imagine she'll get a lot of opportunities over the next 4 years to make a name for herself, interviews after Trump State of the Unions, regular guest on Cable News Networks, will probably be lead sponsor on some bills to get her name out there.

Very smart, charismatic, a veteran, and while young, already has a good track-record behind her. Look her up!

Stan Van Gundy went on an epic rant.

I didn’t vote for (George W.) Bush, but he was a good, honorable man with whom I had political differences, so I didn’t vote for him. But for our country to be where we are now, who took a guy who -- I don’t care what anyone says, I’m sure they have other reasons and maybe good reasons for voting for Donald Trump -- but I don’t think anybody can deny this guy is openly and brazenly racist and misogynistic and ethnic-centric, and say, ‘That’s OK with us, we’re going to vote for him anyway.'

We have just thrown a good part of our population under the bus, and I have problems with thinking that this is where we are as a country. It’s tough on (the team), we noticed it coming in. Everybody was a little quiet, and I thought, ‘Well, maybe the game the other night.’ And so we talked about that, but then Aron Baynes said, ‘I don’t think that’s why everybody’s quiet. It’s last night.’

It's just, we have said -- and my daughters, the three of them -- our society has said, ‘No, we think you should be second-class citizens. We want you to be second-class citizens. And we embrace a guy who is openly misogynistic as our leader.' I don’t know how we get past that.

Martin Luther King said, 'The arc of the moral universe is long, but bends toward justice.' I would have believed in that for a long time, but not today. … What we have done to minorities … in this election is despicable. I’m having a hard time dealing with it. This isn’t your normal candidate. I don’t know even know if I have political differences with him. I don’t even know what are his politics. I don’t know, other than to build a wall and 'I hate people of color, and women are to be treated as sex objects and as servants to men.' I don’t know how you get past that. I don’t know how you walk into the booth and vote for that.

I understand problems with the economy. I understand all the problems with Hillary Clinton, I do. But certain things in our country should disqualify you. And the fact that millions and millions of Americans don’t think that racism and sexism disqualifies you to be our leader, in our country ... . We presume to tell other countries about human-rights abuses and everything else. We better never do that again, when our leaders talk to China or anybody else about human-rights abuses.

We just elected an openly, brazen misogynist leader and we should keep our mouths shut and realize that we need to be learning maybe from the rest of the world, because we don’t got anything to teach anybody.

It’s embarrassing. I have been ashamed of a lot of things that have happened in this country, but I can’t say I’ve ever been ashamed of our country until today. Until today. We all have to find our way to move forward, but that was -- and I’m not even trying to make a political statement. To me, that’s beyond politics.

You don’t get to come out and talk about people like that, and then lead our country and have millions of Americans embrace you. I’m having a hard time being with people. I’m going to walk into this arena tonight and realize that -- especially in this state -- most of these people voted for the guy. Like, (expletive), I don’t have any respect for that. I don’t.

And then you read how he was embraced by conservative Christians. Evangelical Christians. I’m not a religious guy, but what the hell Bible are they reading? I’m dead serious. What Bible are you reading? And you’re supposed to be — it’s different. There are a lot of different groups we can be upset at. But you’re Christians. You’re supposed to be — at least you pride yourself on being the moral compass of our society. And you said, ‘Yeah, the guy can talk about women like that. I’m fine with that.’ He can disparage every ethnic group, and I’m fine with that.

Look, I don’t get it. And I’m having a hard time taking it. I’m just glad that the people I’m with here — and I’ll include you guys, too — that I like. Because I’m going to have a hard time. I will say, one point of pride, I live in Oakland County, Michigan, and I was surprised, but Oakland County voted for Clinton. At least I can look around say, ‘We weren’t the ones putting that guy in office.'

It’s incredible. I don’t know how you go about it, if you’re a person of color today or a Latino. Because white society just said to you, again -- not like we haven’t forever -- but again, and emphatically, that I don’t think you deserve equality. We don’t think you deserve respect. And the same with women. That’s what we say today, as a country. We should be ashamed for what we stand for as the United States today.

That’s it for me. I don’t have anything to say about the game tonight.
