I doubt it's good enough to get home court advantage in the 1st round. Might not be relevant to his decision though.

Which is the better roster?

Seems clear the top but how much better is "ROSE KIRK" than "rose kirk"?

I am hoping this is like Cleveland trying to figure a way to get Bosh so Lebron would stay.

Especially when OKC is begging him to join them. Spurs too.

If Melo was sold on the idea of rebuilding the Knicks next year into a serious contender he would have simply chosen to opt in to his contract this year, why?

1. He would have made the maximum amount of money for this upcoming season.
2. He would have maintained maximum flexibility for next season if the plan failed.
3. If it worked out and the Knicks did sign a key player or two he then gets his super max contract, essentially giving him a 6 year 153 million deal (counting this upcoming season).

Why opt out now, take less money this year, and risk the Knicks striking out next year and being left as a loser until you're 35 years old? It makes zero sense. The only reason I can think of is the risk of injury this upcoming year, but really, even with a torn ACL he probably still gets the max.

He opted out because he wants to leave. If NY doesn't get a commitment tonight I think he is gone. He will take the weekend to ensure his family is onboard and then commit to Chicago. Don't you think if his wife and kid were dead set on staying in NY right now he would have simply opted in?

Melo's getting older. Smart of him to lock up his long term super max deal this summer before risking that his body starts breaking down. Or just a regular injury. If you listen to some, that has already begun to happen some.

Why does that require flying across the country? I'd think a 10 minute conference call would just about do it. And then of course, since this is only about the money, Carmelo would accept it and this would all be over.

That doesn't seem to be the case. They are still trying to sell him on signing for less money or some kind of rebuilding plan. I do not believe this is as cut and dry as some of the reporters are leading everyone to believe.

 Got it. Accepting a 5 year deal worth over a hundred million dollars all hinges on playing with a 38 year old forward on the decline.

He's 33. Other than that I agree with your general premise.

lol this is starting to sound alot like 2010, when Lebron and Bosh were talking about teaming up together and people were assuming they were coming to the Bulls.

He knows how much he can get, it's up to him. He either has Taj on the core, just like he wants, or he's dumb to ask for Taj and 20M$.

It's really on him: Taj + 16M$ or no Taj and 20M$.

He's seemed to be looking for excuses to stay like one reporter put it.

Unfortunately, there might not be many good ones, or he wouldn't be on his magical mystery tour of the country.

That would be hilarious. Now that we heard the Bulls are making a push for Gasol, if he teams up with Melo in NY I will LOL really hard.

Well if he is that concerned about dropping off in talent this year then maybe we don't want to sign him at all. What I do know is he won't be getting that extra 23 million dollars the year he is 36 years old.

I think they are pretending they can get Westbrook and/or Durant.

Durant is a free agent in 2016, Westbrook in 2017. I'd be surprised if they break that team up. They seem to be one piece away, Perkins is worthless and is expiring after next season. Gasol playing Center might be enough to get them to the Finals if they are healthy enough.

Hey, I hear ya. I almost prefer the Lance Stephenson fuller roster plan anyway.

No wonder Phil doesn't want to coach, he might be tempted to EAT the bench!

The Knicks can no longer offer Melo a max contract. Phil ate their salary cap!

If Pau wants to win, OKC and SPURS offer the best chance. One of those two teams will be representing the West in next year's Finals in my opinion.

If he wants to get paid, well then there's always Cleveland.

This board is going to go nuclear if Melo stays in NY.
