At first it's 129M vs. 60M

Now, if we can offer 22M it's 129M vs. 88M if I'm not mistaken. But replace Taj with Gasol?

Why wouldn't we go forward with this?....Oh...that pesky 41M he'd be leaving on the table.

Salaries increase 4.5% per year. If we offer max, it's actually a 4yr/96 million dollar deal. I think I read when state income taxes are taken into account, he'd make more here in the first 4 years than he would in his 4 years in NY on his supermax contract. Might be wrong on that though.

Oh yeah, good luck with Taj/Noah/Gibson vs. Gortat & Nene again...a duo who clearly has their number

Taj/Noah/Gibson?

Mirotic, is what I meant

Makes sense

Bulls get 2 scoring wings much needed, maybe they add Jimmer to the trade as well

Jazz get picks and a defensive wing I see them going with a Burke/Exum backcourt long term

Knicks get a pick(s), the TPE we can use later on and MDJ who can provide some veteran leadership

If there's a possibility of offering the max, better reach out to LeBron and offer him the same scenario as well.

You are right on that. Assuming a max contract either way, his annual salary here would be higher than in NY the first 4 years.

How can he turn down a situation where he makes the max and is playing with Rose, Noah, Pau, and Butler? Just goes to show if he re-signs with the Knicks he's all about the money and not about winning. I don't care if maybe NY can compete a few years down the road, we would have a good shot at winning championships right now if he signs with us under those circumstances.

Just a guess but I'm willing to bet Phil is more open to working a S&T for Melo than Riley is for Lebron.

I would love to get Melo because he is literally the perfect fit for this team. I love your optimism as a Knicks fan saying that he'll be a Bull but I think he'll be back with the Knicks. Hope I'm wrong though.

That's a valid point.

They should still plant the seed if they haven't already done so.

That scenario with Gasol is mighty appealing to anyone trying to win a title next year. That's a loaded squad.

Melo's a Bull.

Ralph's news that we gave him options has shifted my weekend such that each second he hasn't announced his return to NY for the mega max is definitely a second closer to him signing with us. Time covers what's happening behind the scenes, and there's nothing more to happen from New York's perspective. They already threw at him all that they have to sell...and he hasn't committed yet. In short, 1) Melo isn't blown away by the Knicks and 2) time is on our side.

I find it strange that so many are questioning PJax's ability to GM. Sure, he's never done it before. But that isn't necessarily a precursor to failure.

What exactly is it he might struggle with?

The financials? No doubt he has qualified individuals to help navigate the intricacies of the CBA. The Knicks are about to come out of salary cap hell and I'm sure they're not in a rush to go back. I'd expect more prudence than we're used to seeing in NY.

Personnel decisions? I trust Phil's eye for talent. The man has over 50 years in professional basketball and a resume unlike any GM in history. Not to mention he's worked with/under two of the best GM's maybe ever in Krause and West.

I see more positives than negatives. He's the ultimate winner. Players will want to play for him. Players will want to play in New York. He has a blank check owner and will have the means to use it shortly. The only thing he's missing is draft picks and those can often be reobtained.

Unless he completely "Isiah Thomases" the situation success would have to be the more likely outcome.
