I fully understand the sign and trade aspect, but if we were to start at 17 mil, which is the number I have seen more than one person list that we could do, what would our total be for the life of the contract? I believe it has to be a lot closer to 80+, not 70, as keeps being reported.

If Gasol isn't coming, then trading Mirotic doesn't make much sense. Personally, I'd rather have Mirotic over Gasol in any scenario. I don't think them talking to Mirotic means anything more than the obvious.

Isn't this a significant look into the Bulls mindset that they are preparing to move to Plan B? It may be reading too much into things, perhaps, but this could also indicate their confidence level in landing Anthony.

What's puzzling to me is that, if I were Chicago, I'd be on the phone right now with Minnesota. I don't like the idea of simply resigning a few of our own - Augustin/Hinrich, and maybe adding a couple other veteran role players. Yes, if Rose is healthy, this is a 50 win team and maybe the 2nd best team in the East, but we already know how the story ends. I think another superstar is needed here, and Love would be the guy I zero in on.

I'm just not convinced Melo wants to keep losing on the Knicks, however, I do believe he wants the full max. When is the earliest NY can trade Melo under his new deal? Maybe Phil promised he'd move Anthony after signing, since the Knicks will get better trade offers for a player under long term contract. I still think Phil wants to tank + get best assets in return for Melo.

Thats how I feel....Phil wants to create his own team. Guys that fit the system imo.

Just my .02, but I think the Bulls are extremely high on Mirotic. This kid is twice the prospect Omer was - and I think the FO looks at him as a significant addition to an already very strong team. I honestly don't think the FO is looking or interested in trading him, but if he does go in a trade somewhere - I wouldn't expect much else to go with him.

Hoopshype saying Bulls offered Gasol the starting job....Mark Deeks just said Nikolas riggts can be traded but the team he gets traded too better be a place he would sign. New York would be a place Nikola would sign imo...Phil Jackson as the GM...biggest market in the US. Something is going on imo

Exactly...however much Mirotic might not be able to contribute in his first one or two years, he is a top 5-7 draft prospect at the minimum in the 2014 draft. Plus, he is a big who can shoot 3s. There is no reason he cannot be projected to be a big piece of a contending team.

If you are the Bulls and are trading him, you better get back an all-star type player in return. If Boston was expecting to get Love for Marcus Smart and other average players, Mirotic is a better prospect than Smart, IMO.
