Just a few trade ideas

76ers:
Holiday and Portis
for
Fultz

If we want to see if Fultz does better with a change of scenery.

Suns:
Trade Idea 1
Dunn and Parker
for
Josh Jackson and Ryan Anderson

Suns do it to dump Anderson's salary and test out a Dunn/Booker back court before Dunn's RFA. Also maybe their magical medical staff could keep Dunn healthy.

Trade Idea 2
Portis and Payne
for
Josh Jackson

The Suns do it because they have too many SFs and not enough quality bigs. Payne is added purely to balance out $ not because I think the Suns would be sold on him as a PG. Portis is a rental to see how he fits with their team before RFA.

Wizards:
Trade Idea 1:
Lopez and Dunn
for
John Wall

A Wall/LaVine back court would be fairly similar to a Wall/Beal back court. WIZ do it because they see Dunn as a $20m/yr John Wall clone instead of a 40m/yr actual John Wall. Bulls hit the $108m soft cap next season before singing anyone else.

Trade Idea 2:
Parker, Hutchison, Portis
for
Otto Porter Jr.

We get a 2 way SF. WIZ get a big who can play with Wall and Beal (something they desperately need) and a cost controlled wing to develop. Bulls would be $16m under the soft cap next season before other roster moves.

Knicks:
Jabari Parker
for
Tim Hardaway Jr.

Bulls get an actual NBA PG. Knicks get some cap space to go after Durant/Butler/Kyrie/other marquis FAs.

Houston
Felicio, Holiday, Portis
for
Brandon Knight, Nene, (Maybe Melo)

Houston does it to get another 3 and D wing in Holiday and Portis as a Ryan Anderson clone (a player they had a lot of success with). The Bulls do it to dump Felicio who honestly kind of fits into the Rockets system of "set a screen, roll for a lob" making him somewhat of a capable back up for Capela. We could also take back whatever star power Melo has left which you could sell to the Reinsdorf as another way to sell tickets/merch. I actually really like this trade for both teams as it returns Houston to the blueprint that made them successful and it dumps Felicio who I honestly could see fitting in Houston's system.

Ideal wing next to LaVine and Lauri.

If we are using all our cap space on a Wizard, why in the world do we want Porter instead of Wall?

Look at his future earnings. His Supermax contract starts next year.

But how does that matter in terms of putting together a winning basketball team?

Well if you are trying to win a championship then a third of your salary cap cannot go to a player outside one of the top 5 players in the league. Maybe even depending upon the quality of your league that player has to be a top two player in the game.

John Wall is a fine player, but he's not going to take the team to a championship if he's taking a third of their cap.

I don’t see why not, what’s the alternative? Cap space is only valuable to the extent you can use it to get a player. The original proposal was Otto Porter, well Otto Porter has one of the worst contracts in the league and would cap us out. Wall caps us out, but is a legitimate all-star.

If we were to use cap space now to get Wall, we could roll with Wall/LaVine/Markkanen/Carter and our pick as the core. Do I know if that team competes for a championship? No, but it’s at least a solid playoff team with a puncher’s chance to be more depending on how guys develop and who we get in the next draft.

But again, what’s the alternative? We’re going to be capped out soon unless we slash and burn. Get rid of almost everybody and pray two superstars want to sign here in 2021 or whenever the next big free agent class is? I’m okay, we’re never going to replicate what Miami did and the sooner we realize that the better.

We are no where near the point of being capped out with current players and won't for years. Not sure why you are dying to be locked into mediocrity by taking on a horrible contract like John Wall. There is a reason he has ZERO interest from team. Porter is HARD pass too. The Wizards are screwed because of handing stupid deals to Wall, Porter and Beal.

they should trade Holiday, Lopez, Felicio (LOL,if possible) for playoff contenders and just roll with the kids to the end of season..
waive Payne or trade, play Archi and Harrison as backups to Dunn, CALL UP Rawle Alkins versatile high IQ player,
not one way like Blakeney.. get CJ Fair up there too,if they cant find another big...
AND when Bobby and Dunn are back ,play roster with :

Dunn, Arci, Harrison
Lavine, Alkins, Blakeney (trash min)
Parker, Hutchinson, Alkins
Markannen, Portis, CJ Fair, Parker
Carter, Portis, Markannen

main rotation of 10guys should be :
Dunn, Lavine, Parker, Markannen, Carter -- 1st unit
Arci, Harrison, Alkins, Hutchinson, Portis

2 guys who probably don't factor into our future for 1 guy who might? Seems fine to me. Unless you think someone is going to give up 1st round picks for the rights to BP's RFA? Niko was the better player, on a multi year contract and he only got a late round 1st because we took back $14M in dead money with Asik. Holiday is only worth 1-2 2nd round picks to a contender.

If he doesn't fit with Philly then why would he fit here? If he was actually any good we would be a great fit with their big 3.

Bobby is a factor.. unless he will go out of our price range totally! but the main problem here is Fultz --- I just dont see him as anykind of upgrade for our team,I rather have Dunn and cheap hustler Arci for backup. Bcs Fultz aint coming here for backup.

We could sign a max free agent this offseason. But who better than Wall? If we want to maintain cap space after that, decisions come quick. Portis this offseason, Dunn restricted the next one. We’re never going to be able to sign two max guys unless we burn everything, so we are just kicking the can down the road. So what are we saving cap space for? Some fantasy that we sign AD after next year ends? Sorry, I’ve seen that movie before.

A combo of RoLo and Holiday might appeal to Washington...they question is who else might be enough to land Otto.

I wouldn't want to use this year's pick in the deal, but I might consider next year's (top 5 protected) pick. Alternatively, maybe we take back Mahinmi's contract too.

If he doesn't fit with Philly then why would he fit here? If he was actually any good we would be a great fit with their big 3.

A good question. Why doesn't he fit in Philly. The answer is basically that there 2 broad categories of offensive players. "Ball dominant players" and "supporting role players." Ball dominant players NEED to have the ball in their hands to make a difference in the game whereas role players don't. Basically ball dominant guys need to be the focal point of an offense with everything moving through them. Role players will quietly fill the stat sheet as they take the opportunities that come to them.

Embid, Simmons, Butler (, and Fultz) are all ball dominant players. That's a lot of mouths to feed. Further, Simmons and Fultz have very similar offensive scheme needs. They are both guys who can drive to the basket and dish but can't shoot. If you play them on the floor together, they will step on each others' toes spacing wise. Their limitation (shooting) dictates that they both need to be the primary ball handler or else they are useless to the team offensively. Fultz being the youngest and currently least skilled of the four means that he is the one who starves when it comes to touches.

So now, how does he potentially fit with the Bulls? The Bulls only have 1 ball dominant player on offense (LaVine). LaVine also has an offensive limitation (ball handling/vision) meaning that he is more naturally suited to being a secondary ball handler or primary shooter. Fultz would immediately slot in next to him as drive and kick guard who can hit LaVine on the perimeter for a shot or a drive past a defender closing out on Zach. What about Markannen/Carter Jr? Well Lauri isn't a primary scoring option right now. He lacks the killer instinct and is comfortable fading into the background as a sharpshooter who doesn't demand touches. Carter Jr. is very much the same way being an ideal supporting big offensively who can move the ball high/low to keep the offensive flow from stalling. So the Bulls would have a much more defined offensive pecking order than Fultz currently has in Philly. As for Dunn, I like him, really I do, but he can't stay healthy and only has next year before he hits RFA. Fultz you have 2 more years to see if he's worth a big money contract.

Fultz (primary ball handler) brings ball up initiating offensive sets.
Carter Jr (supporting player/scoring option #4/5) sets a screen to spring a Fultz drive to the basket
Fultz drives and either shoots or if defended more likely looks to find LaVine (scoring option #1) or Lauri (scoring option #2) on the perimeter.
LaVine and Markannen space the floor and shoot or immediately drive at their defender who is closing out once they receive the kick out pass.

If we can find a 3nD wing then they become scoring option #4 or #5 taking whatever looks come their way while not getting in LaVine, Lauri, or Fultz's way.

You can't just make a broad statement like "If player X was any good then they would have played well with player Y." After all, everyone thought Olipido was trash after his time with Westbrook.

Bobby has played well enough that one of the like 15 teams with cap space this offseason is going to throw money at him. Even if he signs for a respectable $12m/yr you'd still be paying $50m to a back up. I agree with you on the cheap back up thing, Portis wouldn't be one. Fultz would be coming in to compete with Dunn for the starting spot. I like Dunn a lot, but he can't stay healthy. It's a pretty low risk move for us tbh.

LaVine is the only player we are a financially commutter to long term and he looks to be ok a team friendly deal. Portis may or may not be here next season depending on how much depending on how much he wants or gets offerred as a restricted free agent. Dunn has not proven anything yet so there is no guarantee he is a Bull after next season. Markkanen and Carter will be on rookie deals for a long time.

He isn't worth it for free. Dude makes $25 million plus and is just a decent starter at best. I'd rather try of get Oubre on VALUE contract next Summer. As soon as we start overpaying mediocre, low-ceiling players long term we are on the treadmill again.

I was fine with gambling on LaVine because of his potential. Porter Jr has no potential. He is a decent 3 and D wing making superstar money.

Yep, we dodged a bullet with Potter. Not that I think we had a realistic chance to acquire him, but I do know many fans wanted to take a gamble on him, including myself.

I do think on a different team, he could provide better production, however, I don't think he is ever going to come close to justifying his contract.
Why so serious?

Return to Chicago Bulls
