Between karnisovas, eversley, and now donovan, this team is looking like they’re setting up a great foundation. It looks like lavine, white, markkanen, and carter jr. will finally be put in situations to succeed since coming to the bulls.

1. Trades are coming for vets. Won't be surprised at all to see some change before next season.

2. AK hiring Billy D the day before group workouts and scrimmages begin. He doesn't want to waste any time.

3. Will be interesting to see who Billy brings with him as assistants.

4. Love how AK referenced his consistent winning as reason for hire. AK is about winning. Finally!

I think the difference between the rebuilds is that Presti wants high picks and is willing to bottom out to do that. Even after drafting Durant he kept SEA/OKC at 20 wins for 2 seasons.

Denver never really bottomed out. AK has had success without getting multiple top 3 picks, the highest they drafted was #7.

The two execs may want to go different directions. Presti may want OKC to go down in wins, AK probably wants Chicago to go up in wins.

We needed a guy with some pedigree and cache. Someone with a track record. And donovan has had more success than Atkinson. Not to mention its not a good look to get ran out of town when you have the makings of a superteam coming in Brooklyn. Says alot of the coach that the superstars ran him out. That wouldn't bold well in free.agency.

I agree except about boylen. He was an assistant with the rockets in the 90s and was an assistant under popovich for 2 years, other than that his assistant coach resume isn’t very good. Also when talking of his college head coaching experience at utah, i have heard of very few people who followed the team that have positive things to say of boylen. People liking his hiring as an associate head coach under hoiberg was based solely on his 2 years with the spurs. His coaching history is pretty awful overall.

I think most assumed that given his previous HC and failing at it that he would learn from those mistakes, especially having coached under Pop.

Don't know why...but they assumed.

True, the problem being that people talked of boylen as a popovich “disciple” when he was no such thing. Every other popovich disciple coached under him for half a decade or more, boylen for only 2 years. Players aren’t even considered veterans after 2 years. Not even taking into account hindsight, i never understood why people thought “hey, boylens a great hire, he worked under popovich”, which is technically true, but you can’t learn everything there is to learn from one of the best coaches ever in only 2 years.

Offensively, I expect the exact opposite of this year's Atkinson/Houston style offense, which was 3 or layup and nothing in between.

Donovan:
“Everybody would like to have three things - they'd like to get a lot of free throws, like to get a lot of threes and a lot of layups,” Donovan stated. “Inevitably, you have to take what the defense gives you.”

Opposing defenses are trying to take those exact things away, as Donovan hinted, so the area of the floor the Thunder has optimized perhaps more than any team this year is the mid-range jump shot. The Thunder ranks fifth in overall field goal percentage (47.3 percent) thanks in part to shooting 47.6 percent on two-point jump shots, the highest figure in the league. By leveraging opposing defenses that are trying to prevent layups and three-pointers, the Thunder has optimized one thing NBA players love the most: open, uncontested shots.

If the Bulls wanted the complete opposite of our scheme this year, Donovan is probably as opposite as you get.

If Billy Donovan took this job, he's high on the talent we have. He doesn't come here unless he believes in the young core. And likewise, the new front office.

I really was hoping for Ime or Wes, but part of that was I didn't believe Donovan would consider us. We've got a really young team. Having an experienced and successful coach is definitely a step in the right direction.

Good luck guys. You are still a premium brand in the NBA. Works for everyone if you do well.

This is actually really smart. Take advantage of defenses focusing on 3s/layups. This should be interesting cuz MidRange will open up a lot of other stuff.

Spectacular, as much as i support the 3pt movement, teams should still look for the best available shot and if that’s a midranger then i have no problems with that. I always felt like abandoning the midranger was like handcuffing your offense, though i’m not saying midrangers should be the primary strategy.
