Re: Lauri Markkanen...what's his future going forward?
Lots of players have significantly improved various aspects of their games over the course of their careers. Look at Jimmy Butler.... Or Jason Kidd’s 3 (and many other players... Derrick Rose...). Or pretty much every aspect of Jerami Grant’s game.
Some folks have physical limitations, others have a limited growth curve / potential for various reasons.. but improvement is common.the ones that don’t, fail.

Are you forgetting that the Bulls send Boylen to Finland to spend time with Lauri during the summers to watch how he practises? And most likely to make sure he does things Bulls want.

You guys are looking for every possible reason to hate Lauri, even through somewhat sketchy translations from Finnish to English. If you look at videos of Lauri from his first two NBA seasons and Eurobasket 2017, he seems like a completely different player compared to the present version. He was much more versatile on the offensive end, and had a few go-to moves plus a good three pointer. I´m willing to hope that training in Finland could be a positive thing and Lauri could have a bounce-back season. From the outside it looked like he got more one-dimensional the more he trained in Chicago.
Nobody knows exactly what went wrong in Chicago, but the Bulls are not exactly known for developing their young players to reach their full potential. There are at least half a dozen young players who have played a lot better after being traded or cut by the Bulls.
There is fault on both sides. Hope they find a good landing spot for Lauri.
And no, Marko Simonovic will not be as good as Lauri is.

I'm sure this board would've hated Dirk. Going home every summer to practice in a tiny high school gym in Würzburg with a weird, old dude? No wonder he had such a terrible career! I'm not a Lauri fan at all, but I've seen people on here getting mad because he took some half court shots after practice. It's ridiculous.
I haven't and can't understand what'd be wrong with that. Care to enlighten me - thanks!
Lauri posted a video of himself taking half court shots for fun and some people here argued that he should only focus on shots he’s actually taking in games, that he doesn’t seem to take practice seriously…stuff like that.
But hey, it seems like we have quite a few regulars at Lauri‘s offseason practices here. Maybe they just know more than I do.
Christ, why didn't anyone tell Markkanen you're not allowed to have fun in your own time...

Yeah, those regulars seem to be better coaches and GM's behind the keyboard than the ones we have on payroll.

First welcome to board. Second I wish Lauri all good luck. But not on Bulls. Maybe just as Cameron Payne realize when China becomes reality that for playing in NBA at high level you need to take things pretty serious. Until then he can f off my team. I am done watching scrubs, lazy, not hard working in Bulls uniform. That's why our results in last 20 years are exactly as they are. I mean we can blame our GM's, coaching staff, but eventually players are responsible for court results most of time. They are responsible for their own game and how hard do they want become better. Do great GM's and coaches elevate franchise, yes they do. Do they make franchise more respectable - yes they do. But at the end Bulls fans hating Lauri is just on Lauri. No coach, no GM nor trainer will help him become great if he continues path he is gone last 2 and half years.
And yes it's true that Marko Simonovic will not be good as Lauri. There is few things I want from Marko and one of them is not follow example of being Lauri.

Welcome. No doubt the Bulls misused Lauri. Lauri seemed to get bad advice from both the Bulls and his Finnish advisors on how to develop his game. I said from almost day 1 that Lauri would be best developed to emulate Durant and be move of a face the basket player and to keep lean and quick, but he went all Ivan Drago on us and lost quickness. I think his problem was that he couldn't shake the 7 foot tall stigma of needing to be a post player. The most effective I saw him (in between injuries) was last year when he was used more like a SF.
If we lose Theis in our pursuit of Ball, I hope we try to keep Lauri, even on a 1 year deal, to see if he can fit next to Pat, in that role.

Well said. I usually don't defend Lauri, but he (and many NBA players) are just kids following the advice of those around them. The Bulls have had piss poor role models for him to look to on how to improve his game. Changing coaches also really hinders development because young guys lose probably 1/2 a season each time to just learning new systems.
As to Marko, just because he's another big white euro and folks need to stop trying to compare. Marko is a rim-running post player and his game is very different that Lauri's perimeter-oriented game. That said, I just want Marko to be a good defender, which we really need.

Interesting fact. In the summers of 2018, 2019 and 2020, and probably also in 2021, Zach has spent more time outside USA than Lauri. Looks like the time spent in the USA in the summer is not a very relevant gauge of the quality of the training period.

I for one was one of the only posters who wanted Markannan and was one of his biggest supporters. The problem with Markannan is he suffer from Tomas Satoranskyitis. He lacks consistent agression and plays soft and timid. He definitely has talent but he doesn’t have the confidence and agression to consistently ball out. The bulls need to move on. I have more faith in Lauri being a productive NBA player than Sato though. The problem with Sato is that unlike Luari Sato doesn’t have the talent to compete. Markannan has talent it’s no denying that.

But was Zach in Finland? Why bring Zach into the Lauri discussion?
I don't care where guys go, but Zach improved each of those summers where Lauri didn't.

Exactly! But some posters here seem to think because Lauri has spent two or three weeks per summer out from USA, it has been his doom. A more neutral take on the matter might be that the Bulls training program has not been what Lauri should have followed (which he has done, very rigidly). Which incidently is what Zach has been doing, he has followed the training program his father made for him, not what Bulls told him to do.
This summer is the first time during his NBA career that Lauri has a training program made for him by non-Bulls affiliated training professionals. Remains to be seen what difference (if any) it makes.

Players can also work on things in addition to what their teams want them to work on. It's not an either-or situation.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

Honestly, I don't think Lauri is/has been training hard since the season ended. In this case, because he is awaiting a contract and wouldn't want to hurt himself, I totally understand.

Don’t underestimate frisbee golf. He might get hit in the eye. Our most famous soccer player Jari Litmanen had some funny injuries. He got hit in the eye when opening Pepsi bottle.
