is the role that I can see him succeeding in, on the 2nd team or even mixed in with the starters at times.

No. They don't.

Last year Coby shot
163/454 on all three point attempts, a rate of 35.9%
121/333 on catch-and-shoot attempts, a rate of 36.3%
42/121 on off the dribble attempts, a rate of 34.7%

So, he was already someone who took a lot of catch-and-shoot 3 and hit them at worse than league average for that shot. I'm not saying that can't change with better teammates/play makers this year, but by no means has Coby shown to be a very good as a catch-and-shoot three-point shooter.

What happens to our rotation when Coby comes back?

Post#182 » by sco » Tue Nov 9, 2021 1:18 pm

Saw some good ideas in the PG thread, but I thought it warranted it's own thread.

I'm thinking that minutes come from a lot of sources. I don't think we can sustain Zach and DD's minutes where they are, and still be at the top of our game come playoffs. We have a decent bench for once, we should use it more. Do I think Billy will lighted our starters' minutes? No, but this is what I think would work best.

PG: Ball (25), Caruso (23)
SG: Lavine (30), White (18)
SF: Derozan (24), Ball (5), Caruso (4) Ayo (15)
PF: Green (20), Jones(22), Derozan (6)
C: Vuc (30), Bradley (18)

I merged in a thread that was discussing the same things regarding Coby.

Nope. But it's my prediction and assumption we could do something like this by All-Star break. It makes sense. You wanna keep giving minutes to guys who play well, give minutes to guy returning from injury and wanna give guy who playing injured time to get surgery and heal.

Coby brings scoring and Zach mostly did that. He is not capable replacing Zach fully, but somewhat slide in his role to give you 20+ here and there.

Going to be interesting to see how they try to fit Coby into this when he comes back in a week or two (hopefully).

You have to imagine he would spell some more rest for Zach/DDR but they're still going to want those guys running with these guys. But the bench has been crying for more scoring and the team needs a boost in 3s.

Ayo has already shoved TBJ out of the rotation with his stellar play, and it's going to be hard to reduce minutes of such a high-production player for a guy coming off injury. And we still have yet to see how Coby has fully recovered, but hopefully he gets back to that lights-out shooting from last season.

He must’ve torched the G Leaguers for 50 in practice and they realized there’s no benefit for him to be there even to get his legs back.

Coby must be very close to returning. Maybe a week or so until he plays his first game?

I have a feeling Coby torched the GL team.

Yeah, usually once players are cleared to practice they usually are ready to comeback within a week. So I would expect him to return for Portland or Denver game next week, if not sooner.

I probably would've preferred him to play a couple of meaningless G league games to be honest. He could've strolled around for 25 mins or so and put up a bunch of shots just to get a bit of touch back in a real game scenario.

In any case it will be interesting how they reintroduce him into the rotation at a low level and who's minutes get cut.

Yeah, I don't see why not.

No need to risk him in games vs players trying to prove why they should be in the nba.

My guess is he returns either tonight or Friday's game vs GSW.

He was assigned to the G-league for one practice?

He either torched them in practice.....or was getting abused. (Hopefully he didn't get hurt or something).
