There is no sense in trading Butler instead of Snell. Find that 700k somewhere else.

Umm why would we trade Jimmy if he only makes 2M and is our best perimeter defender? We need underpaid guys like that to round out the roster if we're bringing over Melo. Why not trade the unguaranteed contracts we have instead to free up cap space?

Bye Butler if that's the case. When you get the opportunity to pair up a top 5 player with a MVP, you don't hesitate.

My question is, why aren't they trading Snell?

snell has 3 yrs left, butler has 1. thats what the reasoning would be. but I dont want buckets to go

Years 2 and 3 don't matter. The cap this summer does.

That would make sense if the guys were close to being in the same level, but they currently aren't.

Keep jimmy for the extra year, his role will be reduced and his salary demand will probably be lowered as a result. 6-8 million for him isn't bad.

Again, the tweet said 'they would have to', not that they are.

I'm sure they'd much rather dump Snell than Butler.

On the flipside though, surely we wouldn't be able to pay Butler once his contract's up? Especially if we use the MLE on someone this off-season. Maybe keeping Snell is smarter in that sense.

Obviously we would lose leverage in trying to trade him, but what sort of asset's do you think we could get back for him? He is a very valuable player on cheap money, and will likely be seeking an affordable contract into the future as well.

i assume a unprotected 1st to a team that can absorb him.

Butler has one more season of being underpaid. Then you're talking about him possibly being wildly overpaid for an elite defender who is often an offensive crutch.

If we get Melo and Butler stays, this season is a big audition for him. Chicago really needs a shooting guard who can make shots and score at a decent clip. He doesn't necessarily have to break his man down, but 11-13 points per 36 isn't cutting it.

Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

Damn guys... the Bulls are STILL with Melo? This has to be a good sign, no?!?! I'd expect if he were just using us or even not leaning Chi, that he'd be in and on to the next like Lebron and Dwade in 2010...

Jimmy might struggle offensively, but he does the best job guarding Lebron.

Hmmmm. Either Alex Kennedy is a hyperbolic, sensationalistic hack exaggerating and making things up, or KC Johnson is asleep at the wheel when it comes to covering the Bulls. although KC never breaks any real news, I'm going with Kennedy being a sensationalistic hack.

So now KC is saying that Derrick had a scheduled workout and did not work out for Melo.... and that he was never even at the dinner. We have quite the contradicting stories here.

We wouldn't need more than 11-13 PPG out of our SG with Melo on the roster. Especially if we shore up our bench scoring (Dougie and/or Mirotic).
